I always love the dowager exchanges with mrs. crawley....especially the 'room for improvement' part and 'now you've struck a chord with me...have i really?thanks heaven!'. lol.
OMG you left out the absolute best scene of Dame Maggie Smith's... the dining scene where she mentions that Sybil is a woman and therefore has no opinions until she is married and her husband then tells her her opinions. That is the single best Dowager Countess line of the entire two seasons of show. Just perfect! Otherwise, I truly loved this. Great Job!
I wonder how many people who have never even heard of Maggie Smith are getting marveled when this extraordinary actress appears on the scene. I refer especially to younger people who, surprisingly, are watching this excellent British production. They are discovering that not everything needs to contain violence, bad taste, etc ... Suddenly, Maggie Smith is before them and, from that moment on, they will know what greatness is. Bad English, sorry.
@margiedeeb Thank you! This Dowager Countess thing blows my mind: a friend said on Facebook, "I wish someone would do a "shit the dowager countess says" video" -- and so I did, but just as a funny inside joke because he's always quoting Maggie Smith. I had no idea - NO IDEA - anyone else would eversee it. So imagine my surprise when I noticed all the websites that had picked it up. Hopefully some of them have dug a little deeper into my other clips and perhaps found some music they liked? :)
My favorite scene that isn't included is when she's talking to the Countess about Mary's deeds with Pamook, and when Cora mentions assassinating the ambassador in a joking manner, the Dowager Countess takes it seriously and you can EXACTLY see the calculating look on her face thinking, "you know it could be possible!"
heehee - thanks for doing this. My favorite line was "I am no Jacobin revolutionary. Nor do I seek to overthrow the civilized world!" to the doctor! Don't worry, she has so many, there will be soon cause to make a Part 2! Thanks for making it & posting. I'll try not to watch it 20 times in a row..
Absolutely Brilliant. The Dowager Countess for Prime Minister!! Thank you so much for compiling the brilliance of Dame Maggie Smith giving aristocratic elegance to Julian Fellowes rapier wit.
Ok, seriously, this bad ass woman. She went through breast cancer during Harry Potter, KEPT FILMING, and is still working even afterwards. Seriously, I love her so much.
LOL.LOL. Great stuff. Not to criticize, but there's another moment in Season 1. Lord Downton the Dowager about the interloper relative who is to inherit their estate and the money:
Lord Downton: But why do you act as if you like him? I know you don't like him.
The Dowager: What difference does that make? I have quite a few friends I don't like either.
OMG this is just classic loved every moment of it so cleverly done certainly made me smile. Maggie Smith is an amazing actress her timing is brilliant. The best of British television - JUST SUPERB!!!!!!!!!! <33
Ahhh, I can't do a recut. Bummer. If you upload a new version of the video it erases all your page view numbers! I actually did this as a surprise for a friend who was so sick of seeing the "Sh*t ___ Says" videos and he said "I wish someone would do a "Sh*t the Dowager Countess Says." So I did, as a fun surprise - I had no idea anyone else would see it. It originally only had about 20 hits. Anyhow, thanks for sharing it - hope you all got a kick out of it!
@kerrymuzzey I can't believe some people actually complained about what you left out. This is a great video. Thank you so much for doing it and sharing it via YT so we can all enjoy these precious Downton moments. And I hope people will remember that, while Dame Maggie Smith delivers these lines with astonishing talent, they were written by Julian Fellowes, who deserves the credit for their wit, vivacity, and how much they add to this great British mini-series.
@ETrevar I was kind of surprised at how upset people got that I left out a couple moments! I even got some really nasty hate mail. Isn't that funny? It's just a montage of funny TV clips. Ah well, ya can't please everybody. :)
Fantastic- i just love downton abbey. But Maggie smith really likes the show. I love the scene when she tells matthew 'Mary's in love with you, You were in love with her once before is there no way you can't love her again'
My favorite Dowager line, after it's assured that Matthew and Mary won't be coming home from London on the same train and won't see each other until the concert, is something like, "Oh, good. I do hate greek tragedies....All the action happens off stage."
I'm so glkad you guys dig it... and based on your comments I just realized that I left out a couple very important scenes! if I get a minute I'll do a recut. :)

Kerry, what a superb collage! But you cut my favorite Maggie moment. At 2:28, Thomas just said:
Thomas: Your Ladyship, may I have the honour of this dance?
Dowager Countess: Well, yes, as it is a waltz. I'm far too old for that awful foxtrot.
What follows is screamingly funny:
Thomas: What about the Black Bottom?
Dowager Countess: Just keep me upright and we'll try to avoid it.
She didn't know the Black Bottom was a popular dance! Any chance you could splice in those few extra seconds?
