  • WOW they was jammin!!!

  • I am so thankful that he was having a great change before he passed into eternity.... The man found the Lord and was finding his true identity in Christ Jesus

  • I love this song and video are very good!! Someone could clean the video and provide the lyrics??

  • Slurrrpee: I holla'd at the .48 sec okay lol

  • I love this song! it make me remember late 70´s

    thanks for your post

  • im startin to like his music cant belive i almost miss this

  • I think the 70th where a very happy and also naive time, people like kid just playing around.... not thinking about tommorow

I was born 1973 I only know from telling

  • LOVE YOU SYLVESTER. IM GONNA BRING YOU BACK;) WATCH & SEE! GREATFUL!!!!

  • Thank-You for posting this incredible video

  • This all the way live! and all the way amazing. Who can ever front on Sylvester James, so missed.

  • damn i want to dance like that

  • This song I sang by Patti Labelle is my tribute to the Legendary Sylvester

  • so true!!

  • What a belter. Joe Smooth made a cracking remix of this called Clapping and So Good

  • Sylvester is the MAN...or is he Queen Bitch? Whatever, he's FIERCE - how's that? :D

  • God be with you Sylvester and Izora

  • Very nice...very cool. You can tell that the costumes were inspired by LaBelle. These kind of voices dont grow on trees, boys and girls.

  • @MisterCrazyLegs

PREACH! Innate talent plus refinement equals = singing prowess/genius :)

  • lol that woman at 2:00 was gettin' down in her pant suit!!! she must have just gotten off work and went down to happy hour!

  • This is wonderful....so much quality in his vocal talent~! Martha and Izora are awesome...oh my~!!

  • Where were these filmed?

  • He will NEVER get the credit as one of the greatest singers in R&B circles because he was gay. He was clealy one of the most unique and powerful singers in American history.

  • @jimboedwardlee I couldn't agree more. It's not just because he was gay but because he was out, proud and unapologetic. He was a pioneer in this sense especially among Black people. His falsetto is up there with Eddie Kendricks and the rest. Sorry he's gone.

  • I love Sylvester and thank God for the technology that allows me to see this Soul perform as only he could.

  • i bet aretha could sing this song out of the ballpark!!!

  • yes he was very ms.franklyN LOL

  • wow i remember going to the garage w/my gay guy friends...and they snuck me in between them (i was only 14!!) but i could and still can dance my ass off.....we would leave at about 6am!!! Those were good times!!!! btw i am a straight female...and let me tell u nobody does a party the CHILDREN!!!!

  • he made some great dance records

  • The background vocals by Martha and Izora on this is awesome!! I miss Sylvester! He will not be forgotten!! RIP Sylvester and Izora!!! Continue to carry that torch Martha!

  • @MzSherice

Those girls could never get the credit due to them, they were absolutely incredible on numerous Sylvester songs and their talent was almost completely shadowed by the superficial modern ideology of their appearance!

Sylverster was and will be one of the greatest gifts to that genre of music.

  • I'm here to honor this wonderful, talented soul we called, Sylvester! He was amazing! His voice and spirit is so missed.

  • GReat vocalist... and the Background was steaming!!

  • love this song, Sylvester is a lengend who should have been recognized more!

  • I LOVE him!!! I remember being at the Paradise Garage and dancing to his music and he performed there and I saw him live one night. Screw this sin crap!!! You don't like him or who he is then don't fricking watch and leave this site for his fans!!! He had the best vocal range of most singers and had a wonderfully strong voice!!! LOVE HIM!!!!

  • he was AMAZING, wasnt he....I really do miss him. Actually, I miss a lot of things from the 70's and early 80's, but Sylvester will always hold a special spot in my ol' disco heart. Those two chicks, standing next to him we're just as amazing as he was, werent they. I saw an interview with Martha, about 3 yrs ago. And she told the interviewer that she's had a very hard time listening to their version of, "You Are My Friend", with Sylvester, so she just refuses to listen to it anymore.

  • Now that we've addressed that... I am certain that THIS video post was shared so that Sylvester fans can enjoy him and his music!!! So let's let Sylvester have "his" moment proving that his light still shines!!!

  • What a great performance but what terrible dancing !

  • We all know that opinions are like assholes... everyone has one. There is nothing written in scripture that state a man shall not dress like a woman!!! Sylvester was a GREAT talent who lived his life in TRUTH... not in falsehood. I applaud him for being who he was and sharing of himself with others. He brought a plethora of sunshine into many lives and THAT fact can never be negated by anyone!!! See you on the dance floors of heaven!!! : )

  • Ur reference to "Biblical" scripture is suppose 2 define dress attire during that period. However, If u knew ur history ud understand that dresses/robes, wraps, sarongs, skirts, kilts and sashes were worn before, during and after Christ. About 1760, most men begin wearing breeches, a tight garment worn from the waist 2 the knee with stockings covering the rest of the leg, "Britches" was an informal word 4 breeches. Prior 2 this men were wearing various forms of skirts and dresses! Bless You!

  • LOURDESITA5555 :( This song is about Positivity! Being Grateful! And here your come talkin all that bullshit! MAY THE FUNK BE WITH YOU!!

  • Listen up, y'all! Whenever we hear a song of this talented Disco artist, why can't we just enjoy the music? That's what disco was all about, feeling good, celebrating life--- NOTHING about pointing fingers, placing judgment, so.... put away that bible for a minute or two, and just dance! I don't think there's anything against dancing written in the bible, is there? But should there be a quote found that says otherwise, wait til after this song at least, or better yet, save it for Sunday!

  • love it please keep it going, brings back so many many memories.

  • I liked Sylvester. He had some great dance tunes for the clubs and discos back in the days. He was the ones who gave fame to the weather girls.

  • Look, Sylvester was a major talent, regardless of whatever gender he was.. I was a kid back in the 1970's when he was on scene and I just loved the way he sing. We all sin and regardless, we are all God's Children! Amen!

  • Let me comment on what "DaStr8Truth" had to say. Sylvester knew he was a man and everyone else also knew. We all have sinned and come short so be you man or women work on this issues that reek havic in your life. You should stop pretending your a saint. May god Bless you.

  • You Are a Tortured Soul And I Weep For Your Ending You Are Far from The Truth,, Sylvester Knew He Was A MAN

  • Asshole....nobody cares what u think why you looking at this anyway, hmmmmm?

  • Sylvester brought so many of us such joy and happiness. I am truly grateful to her. Just listening to this song brings me back to my teenage years when I fell in love with every boy I slept with, too often, every friend was a "Best Friend", the drugs were still harmless and money didn't mean a damn thing. I am still grateful, life has been good to me but just hearing this fills me with tears and longing.

Meet you on the Dance floor some day! :)

  • Gran recuerdo de 1978

  • thank you

  • wooow i like sylvester becuse she is a shemale of his time but im a shemale of 2008 ha ha ha

  • He was the Gay Aretha Franklin of his time, The Very Best!!! No other Male Disco performer was more famous than Sylvester...He brought it ever time...and he is missed.

  • @alexanderdiaz1 I will AGREE with that statement....the GAY ARETHA.....WOW!! how fitting!!

  • Will someone please tell me what album is this song on? I've been searching for five years now!

  • The Sylvester album that has the song "Grateful" is called Step II. It was released in 1978.

  • This was a few years before m time, but I still love this man. Funny, when I was a little girl, I thought he was a woman. LOL

    Kids... What can I say?

  • I love how all these damn modern djs/producers put out new tracks with samples from folks like Sylvester and DONT give props to them! The beginning part of this song I have heard in so many house music tracks and I have read the credits on the album sleeve and didn't see Sylvesters name.

  • @lockness1980

    Preach!

  • wow ... Remember how happy people use to be back then ??? God I miss them days . If you had a bad week you just went to the disco drank Harveywallbangers and danced your ass off to the likes of Sylvester ! The gay clubs were always the best !!!!!

  • you need to stop with your foolishness...It's not cool to judge others and be disrespectful. Besides, the ladies singing with Sylvester are Martha Wash and the late Izora Rhodes Armstead.

  • This is amazing!! Its like therapy for me!!

  • Happy Pride everybody ;-) please check out + join "SYLVESTER!" ... a Facebook Group created in tribute to / in honour of the ultimate POSI+IVE role model, STATUS symbol + Queer American Hero!!

  • diva!

  • You know, Syl' made some great records. I was just listening to this little number and I was struck by the arrangement of the song...like a lot of Sylvester records, the arrangements and instrumentation were very sophisticated. A lot of strings and horns and as alwawys, great background vocals. Listen to "I Who Have Nothing'..it sounds better than Bassey's version, in my opinion. Same thing with, "Fever" and "Cry Me A River". The man could flat out sing...

  • I always enjoyed hearing songs performed by Sylvester and Two Tons of Fun (Martha Wash and Izora Armstead). What a treat to see the three of them performing live. Thanks for posting the video.

  • I would like anyone to find you are my friend on video

  • The backing track is the same one featured on Sylvester's breakthrough album Step II (Fantasy Records), but here on this piece, the vocals by Sylvester & The Two Tons O' Fun aka The Weathergirls totally live. RIP Sylvester & Izora Rhodes Armstead (on the far right in the yellow with orange headdress).

  • Definetely Sylvester was a great singer!!!! He had all together!!!

  • He sounds like aretha a lil when she sung a rose is still a rose.

  • He did some background vocal work on her album "Who's Zoomin' Who."

  • thank you

  • Fab performance from THE most underated diva! Beautiful uplifting vocals fabulously complimented by two tons of fun. Thanx 4 posting!

  • Wonderful to see this. Shows off Sylvester's vocal skills to the max. The dancers do becoming annoying very quickly

  • What a rare treat! Nicely showing off the gospel roots of some of the besst disco of that period of time.
