  • In some of the really old graves, you can look in where the corners have worn away and see the decayed coffin and the skeleton. In others you can see a metal coffin that looks somewhat like a can. There is glass over where the face is (was) and you can see the skull inside it if you have a flashlight. It's amazing to see the remains of the original French settlers of Louisiana...still laying where they were placed so many years ago.

  • @honeybun33 I don't know exactly what they do, but the cemetery I went to (I live about 45 minutes away from NO) I actually saw bones just laying on top of the graves where they had settled. I distinctly remember seeing several vertebrae and what I'm pretty sure was a lower-arm bone. It was wild to see that. Not sure if reusing "open" graves is something they still do.

  • There is no need to take any ghost video .... Post a video showing the marking on the old headstone grave instead .... I wanted to know what was written on it ....

  • Isn't these grave kind of .... easily crumble ?

  • The x on that one grave is to keep this voo doo witch in her grave, but I cannot remember her name...

  • Yes, that's the grave I was looking for, Marie Laveau. Finally found it at the end of the video.

  • You do know the tomb with the X's on it was supposed to be the site of a vodoo woman.....I think she was basicly worshiped as a god when she was alive and now peole who practice vodoo do rituals at her grave

  • I'm not sure if they were underwater or not during Hurricane Katrina.

  • @stanaker No, they were not. The French Quarter and the area around it are actually about 5 ft above sea level, so they received minimal, if any, flooding. The French knew that this particular spot was above sea level, and that's why they built the city (French Quarter) there. The Native Americans that lived in the area told the French where this particular spot was.

  • Were these under water during the flooding?

  • i commented on thsi vidoe i used to be NeonEvanescence but had to close my account for fear of copyright. again i love this video and wanted to show it to my grandmother because she wants to go back and hit this cemetery. thank you again for posting it.

  • Thanks! This is St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, founded in 1789.

  • I'm surprised you were able to get in after hours. Yes, this neighborhood is a dangerous place at night, I was actually carrying a .40 caliber gun at the time, just in case. I don't recommend anyone sneaking in, but it would be the ultimate eerie experience for sure!

  • I was recently here and was lucky enough to bring a flashlight, some graves were empty but one we managed to see bones. This is a very neat cemetery to visit but it does close at 3pm so come early, leave anything of value in your car and park as close as you can because this is not the best neighborhood!

  • Go to 2:14-2:15 and watch Ur camera blur ,,,,, very interesting :)

  • What an eerie place.

  • Tombs have been there since the 1700"s. Some remains have been moved to other tombs. If you open them up now-nothing but bones

  • Jonah Hex, Double Jeopardy, and Interview with the Vampire all filmed in Lafayette Cemetery #1. Easy Rider and Angel Heart filmed in St. Louis #1. You can look up filming location at imdb.com

  • I grew up givib=ng tours of this cemetery with my gramma in the summers and my Uncle Buddy who did it for 60 years. If you would like to know some stories contact me at sirbunk112@hotmail.com

  • reminds me of easyrider

  • I know that this is the cemetary in easy Rider...can anyone tell me if it's also the one in the movie Double Jeopardy..with Tommy lee Jones and Asley Judd??

  • looks like a lot of tombs are falling apart its a shame that love ones remains are such sad conditon some one should do something about it

  • I agree. It's very old, but some of the tombs are literally just rubble. Makes me wonder what has happened to the families of these people. Thanks for the comment.

  • @stanaker Its said that New Orleans ran out of places to bury the dead and for almost 200 yrs, u would put the dead in a tomb for 1-3 yrs , take that body out and replace it with another body. This is why its so haunted for say cause ur never to remove the dead once laid in place. Its a Fact that there are 300 bodies PER SQUARE FOOT to count there, before The Dead were laid somewhere else. That is before they put bodies somewhere else. The families are mostly long gone. Only Rubble now!

  • @taftstewart so the tombs are recylced over and over?? where are the remains placed once they are removed from a burial site and replaced w/ another corpse?? are there sanitational risk involed in removing the dead ? sorry bout all the ??'s. just curious

  • @1989dolphingurl I agree. There are even worse ones.

  • not scary during the day

  • Unfortunately, it's closes early in the afternoon.
