The Riflt of Aln is in the emerald Dream, I think where it originated, the beginning of the Emrald Dream. In the book Stormrage, Malfurion defeats the Emerald Nightmare, but has to push it into the rift and seal it, so it's still kinda there, being all....bad and stuff.
@0beastly0 it is seeping back out into the emerald dream, and there is almost 100% confirmed that an old god is trapped there, being the cause of the emerald nightmare to begin with....
@skydadro they've already dealt with the emerald dream, that's the reason why malfurion is actually back in the game, they went over that in the book about it... i think they wanted to implement something like an instance about the emerald dream but they just didn't :/
@FancyTophatDude The emerald dream is'nt 100% cleansed, Malfurion says to Tyrande something about that "he day are saved and that the problem with the great evil at the bottom of the rift of aln, has to be dealt with later. And there are several portals into the emerald dream scattered across Azeroth. And N'zoth /Zath are linked to the emerald dream, N'zoth = a old god that is responsible for the "spark" that created the Emerald Nightmare
@Habbarapapp i know but however it's unlikly for us to see an emerald dream instance, probably a big instance with N'zoth maybe at the end of cataclysm, 'cause i think that's also the old god that corrupted deathwing, right?
@FancyTophatDude N'zoth is said to live at the bottom of the sea, due to the puzzlebox of Yogg-saron and the undershell at L'ghorek at The abyssal deeps (varios clues there). And it was not just him who drove Deathwing mad, it aws "the three". 3 old gods, and what we know now, is Yogg, C'thun, and N'zoth. So it could be all of them. or some other ones. I don't really know, let me find out if u find something!
@Habbarapapp alright, so it's actually quite likely to see n'zoth as a boss in cata if we think about it...but i'll post it if i find something interesting :)
@Habbarapapp perhaps if the next expansion is about the emerald nightmare, N'zoth somehow revives the other two old gods and then the final boss fight of the expansion would be against all three, who knoes, the'll probably announce it at blizzcon next month
@Taxrenn93 as it happens the next expansion IS about the emerald nightmare and the disruption in the timeways. also, the old gods were never killed, just cast out of azeroth( th eones we have encountered) and there are several others just locked away( the puzzle box of yogg'saron gives hints to where they are hidden)
@Vonstuker4 I imagine it will be titled "Shadows of the Dream" or possibly, "The Emerald Nightmare". Something along those lines... I hope it's the next expansion. We havn't had a truly devious boss since Kel'thuzad launched his assault across Azeroth right before BC.
Well, the hype about the next expac now is pandora.. which (people say) is suppose to be an expac around pandas. @Verixus113 Yes. MOST of the time. It wouldnt be the first time they are leading us the wrong way. I'm not saying that Mists of Pandaria will be an expansion, ofcourse it could be comic or even new game. But they have not confirmed anything, so we will have to wait and see. :)

It unknown who the true master of Xavius is, and the closest thing we have to a clue is Malfurion's statement about old powers beneath the earth. Looking beyond that, isnt it slightly disturbing that the name of the source of the nightmare appears in a music file for Cataclysm?
You are speaking of speculation, it is NOWHERE specified who is the true master of the Nightmare after Xavius. I'm speaking of facts. Nowhere the olds gods or sargeras are DIRECTLY linked to the nightmare yet, even if it's the old gods that corrupted Xavius, it could be an interely other being.

But yes, Xavius, Sargeras, Deathwing and Old Gods are tighly linked even if they aren't united as a normal faction is.. And yeah i'm a lore rat :P
@LordBrunnen Xavius was actually given the power to do that by the Old Gods thats why even with his defeat the Nightmare was only weakend not destroyed because the true source is an Old God.
@LordBrunnen just say so no one misunderstands waht u are saying Xavius was the first Highborne to be transformed into a Satyr later transformed into a tree and dumbed into the sea :P
@StationaryHawk your right the emerald dream is talked about in every game and there a ton of books and movies about it. and there this one quest in old world before cata that wants you to go to the emerald dream

@LordBrunnen so is Sargeras still inside Medihv? What ever became of Medihv in the wow lore?. I hope they make the next expanse more about the titans and Sargeras's fall into darkness.
@Crazymagus13 Midihv was killed by Khadgar and the champion of the alliance Lothar. After that his mother Aegwynn gathered power for years to bring him back. When he was brought back, he used his new life to atone and try to help the world, such as directing Thrall and attempting to help King Tirinis with the Lich King.
@seksyen4babyface They don't work together outright, but in the past they do attempt to use one another to complete goals. For instance: old gods attempted to use the coming of Sargeras to weaken and escape their prison back in the War of the Ancients.
@seksyen4babyface they are, actually, sargeras was the titans champion, and the one to fight the old gods, and the old gods made great efforts to manipulate him.

@LordBrunnen On Blizzon they mentioned a new old god wich was the main reason for the nightmare, Metzen said his name would be "N'zoth the drowned god with the black heart"
@LordBrunnen wow lore is just the most epic story wroten ih whole history at least for me :D ... guess i dont read a lot but the lore is just amazing so deep and well twisted involving those epic creatures who are our heroes in azeroth :P
@LordBrunnen The nightmare is the result of one specific Old God, N'zoth. As far as we're aware, Deathwing and the Burning Legion have nothing to do with it directly.
@StationaryHawk Ok, this is a reply to EVERYONE that said N'zoth and everything.. Back in the time I wrote that comment, never the name N'zoth was ever pronounced, and that was the explanation agreed by everyone, now stop always comming back with N'zoth everytime
@Casicko You know when the well of eternity "imploded", then the water of the well rushed through the night elven empire, when the water reached Azharas temple and her highborne, she held a defensive ward, who shielded them agains the water, but her strenght was fading, at that time, an whisper in her mind appeared, saying something like " Let it go, You will be redemed and serve me." An old god, when she did this, and the water filed the lungs of the Highbornes, they did not drown, instread. ->
-> They sank to the bottom, transformed and remade to awful beings, The Naga, they sank to the bottom, there they built an empire, more powerful than the elven empire, at the bottom of the sea.
There was said that Azshara drowned and wa gone for ever, but after ten thousand year, the naga showed themselves to the surrounding world for the first time. It is speculated that Azshara was transformed to a huge monstrosity with 8 big tentacles as her legs. ->
or as a usual naga, but with her former beauty. This whisperings "Let it go, You will be redeemed and serve me," something was from an old god, speculated to be N'zath, the drowned old god wich maybe will be revealed in Cataclysm. in Yogg-sarons puzzle box, you can see whisperings that mention the drowned old god (N'zoth). and they where transformed to water beeings. Now, in Vashj'ir, you can see the naga summoing and controlling faceless beeings.Hope it helped!
@Casicko oh, not to do you dissapointed, but it isn't Azshara who's transformed, its just speculations, but you can see pictures at her at Wowwiki, and in Vashj'ir you can see the naga summoning Old gods linked creatures :)
@APPOCALYYPS3 He is perhaps the night elf most responsible for the Burning Legions interest in Azeroth. It was Xavius who first became convinced that Sargeras, ruler of the Burning Legion, was a god sent to deliver Azeroth. Lord Xavius also convinced the night elven queen Azshara of the necessity of turning the will of her mages, the so-called Highborne, towards creating a portal into the Twisting Nether through which Sargeras and the Legion could enter into the world, Then came the sundering...
@Habbarapapp I don't really know, read on wowwiki, there something that his soul survived the sundering, given to the old gods, got into the emerald dream, and with Sargeras help, they let the Twisting nether seep into the dream and corrupting it, thats what i know for now. He corrupted Fandral Staghelm to plant a branch of his own tree form (the form of theNightmare lord, how he appears when he corrupts) to plant it on Teldrassil to connect the emerald dream with Azeroth, to be just one plane.
Yes misterbearbe your right but guess who has the connection through those dementions? Well most dont rarely know him anymore because ppl dont care too much about lore but yea sargeras is doing all of this emerald nightmare shit...cant wait to stop him in next expansion after cata!!
The Rift of Aln is a small area of the Emerald Dream where the Nightmare holds out, supposedly connected to the Twisting Nether and the Great Dark Beyond.

@Casicko second, last of the description:

@Habbarapapp aaaahh! I love a good story ^_^ I'll have to level my character faster so I can go see the transformed Azshara in Vashj'ir! Yay! Thanks!
Casicko 9 months ago
@Casicko oh, not to do you dissapointed, but it isn't Azshara who's transformed, its just speculations, but you can see pictures at her at Wowwiki, and in Vashj'ir you can see the naga summoning Old gods linked creatures :)

@Habbarapapp Could you explain please how Xavius is related to the Nightmare ?
APPOCALYYPS3 9 months ago
@APPOCALYYPS3 He is perhaps the night elf most responsible for the Burning Legions interest in Azeroth. It was Xavius who first became convinced that Sargeras, ruler of the Burning Legion, was a god sent to deliver Azeroth. Lord Xavius also convinced the night elven queen Azshara of the necessity of turning the will of her mages, the so-called Highborne, towards creating a portal into the Twisting Nether through which Sargeras and the Legion could enter into the world, Then came the sundering...
Habbarapapp 9 months ago
@Habbarapapp I don't really know, read on wowwiki, there something that his soul survived the sundering, given to the old gods, got into the emerald dream, and with Sargeras help, they let the Twisting nether seep into the dream and corrupting it, thats what i know for now. He corrupted Fandral Staghelm to plant a branch of his own tree form (the form of theNightmare lord, how he appears when he corrupts) to plant it on Teldrassil to connect the emerald dream with Azeroth, to be just one plane.

The Rift of Aln is a small area of the Emerald Dream where the Nightmare holds out, supposedly connected to the Twisting Nether and the Great Dark Beyond.
