the first piece of Melvins i ever heard was the Eggnog EP. i was completely in love with it at an instant. now i have: Gluey Porch Treatments, Ozma, Bullhead, Lysol, and Houdini. Ozma's my favorite and Eggnog is my second favorite. :)
Mighty! Never heard them before and I'm from Seattle. I was even 17 when grunge broke out. So I'm confused by that. But I mean to rectify by buying this album and taking it from there.
If it wasn't for reading a book about Kurt Cobain I never would of heard of this band, which is by far better than Nirvana. Could anyone tell me a good album by this band to get?
I'd say start out with Houdini and Stoner Witch, easiest stuff to get into by far and my favorites. If you like those, I'd get (A) Senile Animal and Stag. Everything is great though, so...I'd say get it all really.
That's the toughest question. They have many a whole lot of albums and most of it is great. Bullhead, Lysol, Eggnog, and Nude With Boots are my favorites. Nude With Boots is their newest album.
i hate the didpute between who started the alternative grunge scene in the 90's etween the pixies and the melvins i thought it was the pixies but some say otherwise either way this tracks really fuckin grungy
You've got the part that's living now It's a tiny bit nasty But it's a part now just the same Have you the time to make it right? Lord knows I'm gonna let it fly I know it's not very evil But you've just got to learn to let it go Sometimes when the heart beats wide You can take it on the doves Like siz the well known water Like siz the well known war
Gosh, that's heartbreaking. reading that made me think of the time when I sold a whole stack of vinyl records (original Beatles, picture discs, Hendrix, Doors etc.) to some shark at a car boot sale for twenty quid. He had a real bargain. I didn't want to part with any of them - but circumstances, other people and my own stupidity brought it about. I still can't recall it without feeling sick with regret. That was a few years of collecting and a major chunk of my life.
Wanna hear something sad? I had this album when it was called "Lysol". I recently lost in a fire. That and Green Jelly when they were called Green Jello.
Ah! You may or may not have known that D Jr was originally called Dinosaur (I have the "You're Living All Over Me" tape with the original band name on it, as well as Homestead Records' "The Wailing Ultimate" comp on cd with the original name still intact and the song Repulsion. Mascis got sued or threatened with suit over the name by the original band from the 60's (or their label? can't remember...
I wish I had hazy memories of this song - or any Melvins song come to that! I'm just getting into Melvins music - it really makes me wish I'd spent my younger days going to gigs and festivals and all that stuff...
Nothing wrong with starting now- trouble is now if you remember when emo* was Fugazi, Moss Icon, Rites Of Spring etc. (these bands hated the label, btw)- you go to a show without hitting a band's myspace page and you'll have your ears raped by some whiny "Oh please give me sex" followed by tough guy deathy "give me sex I want sex more duff beer" in the same stupid song after song...
*- Yeah, I know Melvins're not emo, just giving an example of what happens if you don't research ahead of show!
I'd like to point out NIN is still linked with this band somewhat closely (David Grohl played drums on with teeth)... I love all the bands mentioned... NIN, The Melvins (of course), Nirvana... Maybe you're listening to the wrong NIN songs... Cause I must admit some songs sound awfully "pop"esk... Although I'm still somewhat fond of them too now that I look more into the band...
Grohl was a sick drummer that went onto to cash in on the most mundane and sadistically horrible pop music around. But Foo's first album actually has a few songs that kinda hit.
Yeah, but you can't say Bleach had more talent. I mean come on. Floyd the Barber, it's two power chords a step down. You can tell they matured so much between Bleach and In Utero.
