this entire cartoon is creepy...like an old wooden pinball machine sitting in abandoned arcade beneath a flickering bulb hanging by a naked wire, creepy! yeah, that kind of creepy.
Alice the goon isn't scary, women just as built and looking like Alice the Goon came in the grocery store I was a manager at all the time. I'm desensitized!
@Wad959 if he can do that im sure he is smart enough to know when to use the word that he learned just say him: use it wisely...... by the way dont show him this episode because that alice thing is scary as fuck and can produce nightmares
"I'm Popeye the Sailor Man. I live in a garbage can. I eat all the worms and spit out the germs. I'm Popeye the Sailor Man. toot toot." We use to sing that in elementary school.
I know Alice the Goon knows nothing about brushing her teeth so her breath got to stink like dead animal with Doodoo inside so why Popey did not smell her breath when she was hunking in his face?
Why does Alice love Popeye who already has a girlfriend, doesn't even want her, throws rocks at her and runs away? Where are all those hard working apparently male goons, or did they all die off? I would really like to see Alice find a nice goon boyfriend!
I never figured out why the Popeye series (about a common Navy sailor) occasionally included such psychedelic characters as Alice the Goon and Dweezil the Jeep. I guess the creators were smoking some crazy stuff.
Alice the goon has a penis-nose, kinda reminds me of Paris Hilton, LOL! She is one sexy bitch, I tell you. She's saying "I love Popeye" I believe. Either that or she's saying "I wanna smoke your pipe, Popeye", ahaha!!
Alice was just one of many goons! There was a whole island of Goons in the early days of Popye..and they all looked like cavemen! The dress and the strange hat make Alice the Goon look comical as ever! Then, there's that funny walk....
@Titan752 i saw a chapter of the Goons too . If i am not mistaken, popeye turned his face into Goon too XD. Anyway ,the sound alice makes is really strange and kinda scary hahaha
There's an Iphone / iPod touch app out called "The Oldies". It features 24 cartoons including 12 Popeye cartoons. It turns your ipod into a dvd player. Absolutely hilarious. LOL! HAHAHA
Alice the Goon showed up very early in the first Thimble Theater funny pappers in the 1930s. The early Fleischer Brothers Poppeye cartoons sometimes featured her and she was creepy. This one is sort of going back and mining that, but not quite so effectively.
Alice The Goon scared the crap out of me when I was little. It REALLY freaked me out when she talked. What does Wimpy do where his payday is a tuesday??
alice the goon is supposed to have very hairy forearms, like all her goon forebares have too. the race of goons was composed entirely of females after all. they took menfolk to their island & made slaves out of them, put them to stud
One of the old Fleischer cartoons showed Goon Island, which looked completely full of male Goons. Maybe that's where the females kept them most of the time?
this is total crap. I hope to meet the dipshit that created these abominable smears on the original theatrical toons and shove a few teeth down his throat.
urgh, at 1:03, the spitton gag's old. In fact, I think that comes from "Blow Me Down!" the first official "Popeye" cartoon. Plus, it lacks something without the music of the old theatrical cartoons.
Of course these are all done in the limited animation style of the 60s as compared to the full animation style of the original Fleischer B&W Popeye cartoons of the 40s. They both have their own unique appeal, depending on one's preference.
I have to agree, the 60s ones have thier own quirky charm, and a tip o'the hat to the original Thumble Theater. If the Fleishers were grape jelly these are strawberry jam.
I remember this episode and all the 60s Popeye cartoons from when I was a kid. I would be glued to the T.V. every Saturday morning just watching this stuff.
These are the Popeye cartoons I PREFERED!! They may be cheesy ,but They have the real characters on it like Alice and the Seahag!! Notice Jackson Becks voice as he narrates. He did Brutus and thousands of other voice over characters and commercials!! Love it!!
I agree 100% The early Popeye cartoons were a lot better than these. I was raised on the 60's Popeye cartoons but when I matured and learned a bit about animation, I started to see the creativity in the early B&W Popeye series and love it so much more. People who prefer these only prefer them because it's what they remember from being a kid, they probably don't see the art in the original B&W shorts.
Well if you enjoy Alice the Goon, then you'll love her in all the episodes of "Private Olive Oyl" I taped over the years. In these episodes Olive and Alice the goon were in the army, lead by Sargeant Bertha Blast.
This is another great Popeye cartoon I also like this one a lot when Popeye meets Alice the Goon, I liked this one when I was a kid and still do today.
This was the beginning of outsourcing jobs to Mexico and other countries. King Features, Inc. wanted to save money, so very few of these cartoons were actually made in the U.S., and it shows. :(
