I love Mrs. Isbin's playing. She has so much texture and feeling in her music. It is not so mechanical like John Williams' music. She has a lot of life in this.
Yes I do own a few of her CDs also, including this piece as well.
For your information, Mr. "expert truth", the ROmeros landed in California when they were in their early teens so they have made most of their careers in the US. That, without mentioning that the third generation (Celino and Lito) were born in the US. Less arrogance and more objectivity may do you some good.
If there are hundreds of players in Spain better than Isbin. Go on... name fifty of them. J William's technique is staggering but even he is not the best around....there's barely an ounce of feeling in his playing. Isbin is far from perfect technically but that will not stop me from enjoying her love of music and passionate playing. . Why cant you just wish someone well in this world.
Agree on Isbin. She is an excellent player. There is another recording of "Recuerdos" by her on youtube with much better quality sound. Totally off with JW. He is a virtuoso. The fact that he does not make contorted faces does not take any feeling from his playing. Listen to the music rather than looking at the player.
@arfurlife I agree with Bostero3771, John Williams plays with a lot of feeling, and it's very unlikely that a better player than him will be born again. I don't understand why some people tend to think that the more facial gestures guitarists make while playing mean more feeling or a better sound. Try listening to Williams recordings of Barrios, Scarlatti, Bach or Albeniz and see if you are not moved by his playing.
@jllobet "John Williams plays with a lot of feeling"
I see so much subjectivity in both what you say and those that praise Isbin. How can you measure "feeling"? what you "feel" may not be the same as what someone else "feels".
Why cant people just listen to the music? It is obvious that the comments posted here are due to nothing more than personal bias.
I like both JW and SI, they are in the same league. why cant one just say that and just LISTEN?
you become a world class player, win major guitar competitions, play superbly etc but still you have to endure moronic comments from people who would not dare put themselves up here for criticism. Often the sound quality is due to wrong microphones and recording techniques. Anyone can tell from this the sound would be amazing seen live. well done miss isbin... brilliant.
Funny how John Williams never has "microphone" problems.....enough excuses....she is a mediocrity.....I don't care how many competitions she has won...music business is very crooked....everything is connections and who you know and politics.....there are hundreds of classsical guitarists in Spain alone that would play hert under the table....
It's amazing how stupid and ignorant some youtube viewers are. People who can barely play anything at all or those like me who are just amateurs wanna look at someone like Sharon Isbin play and make the dumbest comments. Dang! Appreciate great talent folks. If not find another video to watch
lol...average. What a dumbfuck you are. How many other average musicians are the head of a department at Juliard? In fact, she was asked to create the position there.
How eloquent you Americans are! She may be head of guitar at Juliard, but that does not put her above reproach. I just happen to think this performance is not exceptional. Ms Isbin may even agree. Besides, I don't seem to remember the Classical Guitar being a forte in America. South America on the other hand has some remarkable players.
Julliard is a prime music school. They would not appoint someone without a lot of talent. By the way, "America" has produced some interesting guitarists like Brandon, Parkening, LAGQ not to mention that Barrueco, Vidovic and the Romero's have made it their home.
I've seen Sharon perform more than a few times,.. she continues to be, and always will be one of the finest classical guitarists in the U.S. Thanks for the wonderful memories of your performances, lectures, and masterclasses that I've attended over the last 20 yrs. Sharon. If time permits, check out my youtube 'Romance' video. Type in 'Brian O'Hare' in 'search' section. Thanks again, sincerely, Brian O'Hare.

Can you please tell us where to get that magic "feeling" meter? Is it available in radioshack? Then we can really rate all these artists!
Here is a line from @jllobet to contrast what you say. "John Williams plays with a lot of feeling"
hahaha. you people are funny. I even doubt if you all are actually listening to the music or just your own mind chattering away opinions.
feeling!! Oh my feeling!!

She looks like an extra from an 80's power ballad video. ...Oh, and the playing is very average for a world class guitarist.

Boneheads and don't get it? Really? I'd say only a bonehead wouldn't see just how poor this playing is. The guitar is badly out of tune as well.

You can all put as many negative "ticks" as you like but it won't improve her clicky tremolo. Try listening more carefully...

She is simply playing too close to the bridge, that's where the bright (not clicky) sound comes from.
