See now I don't have a problem with the remakes IF they were ever to be done right but they never seem to have yet. I mean if your gonna remake a classic don't recycle the same thing that's been done like instead of remaking the original why not show some thing thats like a preque,l maybe show more history about Tomas huet before he goes killing people and before he wears a mask. Something like that would've been good NOT having the same thing the original did!
@cmsasuke17 Oh i don't know, I quite like the 70's "body snatchers". There have been like, four of those so far. And with the exception of the first, they were all meant as remakes.
How sad is it that they took the house and put it somewhere else and NEVER made reference to the fact that it was THE house from the movie?I agree with tobe I wouldve made it a barbecue resteraunt and made a big deal out of where the house came from
The chainsaw series was cool and all, but what I want to know is why the hell Clive Barker doesn't have an episode... I mean come on, Hellraiser was fucked up.
When they remade Friday the 13th I wish they spent half the movie concentrating on a younger jason and his mother seeing him bullied all the time and him drowning. But hollywood goes and fuck it up again.
you may hate remakes but sometimes when they come out with them it makes people watch the original and realize how much better it is. i personally love watching the originals because they are just classic and there is no beating them.
I have to admit that I really liked the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I actually like quite a few remakes. I don't like that there are so many these days but I have to say that some, IMO, are actually quite good.
"It's not gonna be a blood bath like the original" "Have you even seen this movie?" I couldn't agree more. The beauty of the original TCM is that there's hardly any gore at all, it's all just implied. And yet when you've finished watching it, it makes you feel like you've just watched the dirtiest, goriest movie ever to hit cinemas.
@PuffyAmiYumi You nailed it, sir. Don't get me wrong, I love me some serious gore, but it seems that the movies that disturbed or terrified me the most over the years were the ones that left a bit to the audience's imagination. Perhaps when violence and brutality are merely suggested, the human brain can always conjure up something more horrifying than any camera or special makeup effects artist. I think TCM is the first movie that made me ponder that idea.
@skrason I think the ones that really scared me were not the violent ones to be honest, which is strange because normally if you see a monster or human serial killer butchering somebody you'd be terrified beyond belief, obviously in real life but in movies it makes me wince or even leave a bitter taste in my mouth depending on the severity of it but not usually scared. What did scare me were movies like The Exorcist, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Poltergeist, even The Ring. It's the not knowing.
@PuffyAmiYumi I agree. The Ring was one of the few modern horror movies that did scare me. I can't get the image of the dead girl in the closet out of my head. I'm embarrassed to admit I haven't seen the original...it's on my list!
No one has put into perspective what a waste of time and talent Hollywood are when it comes to remake BETTER than Gunnar! They DIDN'T get the original film at all and these guys work in the industry. What are they getting paid for?!?!
it's official they raped every good horror movie classic! next year there gonna bring out the remake of childs play and there gonna bring out the remake of hellraiser in 2011
The only reason they wanna make remakes is to make money of it
i think that almost every horror movie fan in the world can bring up a genius idea for a horror movie that isn't a remake or a rip-off
they should do a competition were you send in a idea for a horror movie and the best idea is gonna made into a film
So true, and sad. What made a lot of these classic thrillers so great is that they were not big hollywood commercial films. They were small-budget marvels, done by people who gave a damn about horror movies.
The reason remakes are done is because the rights to (most) movies expire. Either the people who originally wrote/directed (or the company that backed it) can do a movie with the characters in something like a sequel or someone else can do a remake. The Thing by John Carpenter is a remake, but far superior to the black and white original in my opinion. It's just Hollywood politics.
Amen. This recent bombardment of shitty piss poor remakes is typical of the mindless bullshit we have to expect from Hollywood. Seriously if it's not a remake, it's a redux of some lame 80's bullshit, or a comic book movie. I have given up on hoping to see anything original or worthwhile.

Moneh-Moneh-Moneh... MONEY!

Remakers just want the income and credits of an Big box office original piece of art.
Directors, who do remakes, are usually bad filmmakers.
Reboothis 5 months ago
@Reboothis that's not necessarily true. There's plenty of great filmmakers who've done remakes. John Carpenter for one.

I once heard a comedian say, "why are we remaking all of these great movies? We should remake all the BAD movies!"
MichaelVoz 1 year ago 8
It amazes me that with the bad rep that remakes have, Hollywood still insists on crankin' 'em out.
C'mon guys....!
Leave the classics alone & make something original.
Besides, isn't that how new franchises begin?
