I like your system and I am likely to reproduce it for my first system. 2 questions. 1. Would that be work or is there a concept I am missing that would cause failure?
how do you regulate how much water goes in your fogger chamber.i saw u put in the feed tube and wondered cause ot seems the water would go right down your dulk head
Im confused, when the water is being fed into the fogger, how does the water stay in the Vinyl post and only allow mist/vapor down into the chamber where your plants are growing? and where can I get the bowl kit?
Great video! Thanks for sharing a detailed explanation on how to build a fogger system. Where did you buy those square tubes? I am thinking of setting up a fogger system but I am just a little hesitant that I can maintain it well. I have read in some forums that bugs can also be a problem with a fogger system, is this true?

hello, i was woundering do you also have water going through that vinyl post, or is just pure fog. because i was woundering, do you have them both, like water going through the system, and the fog at the same time.

@TheUrbanSurvivalistS Sorry, after reading some of the other comments I realized my question was already answered. I'm creating a facility where children can take tours and learn about the different advanced ways to feed the world. I love your idea of a NFT and Aeroponic-fogging system...lol
Really you seem to have incorporated three systems in one. Great job

Those are Thrips!! He has them cause he has to kill EVERYTHING to get rid of them..Also this fogger is not necessary..all that will happen is that you will go through double your nutrient solution..Way better off running an actual spray hose inside that sprays like ten seconds every ten minutes..just my experience with fogger bs.
I have been using this principle for growing for about 6moths with outstanding results. I found that after awhile my fogger became much weaker and had develop what appeared to be corrosion on the transducer. Im really in the dark on this one. What a supplier told me is that you will have to replace the heads every 3000 hours/3months. You can buy the heads on ebay, as they are supposedly industry standard sized. Also it is recommended that you carefully wash with clear water and clean cotton rag every time you change out your nutes. Im thinking about buying a 12 head with float for 230.00 on ebay to see what they can do.
i have also found that in aeroponics plants perform better if you remove the plant from the mini grow sponge that you germinated them in. growing pebbles gives better results that plants that are in the system with the grow sponge stil left in place as it becomes too soggy. i foudn it best to remove plants from the ground sponge and plant directly into pebbles as they dont stay soggy. does anybody no if ghe 3 part nutrients are desinged lower ppm levels than other nutrients
to be fair these so called aeroponic pvc pipe systems are more nft than aeroponics. THe roots dont have alot of roomm to hang in the air in the pvc pipe and i think the aeroponic plastic buckets give more room for air for roots. these systems are very much like nft with the pvc pipe as the roots styay under water constantly. I have noted that roots constantly submerged stay whiter than roots that hang in the air
one interesting thing i have found is that in an aerospring aeroponic growing the bottom of the roots which hang into the water are whiter than the roots which are not hanging in the water. I no roots become darker as they age but anybody no why roots that stay submerged stay whiter than the roots out of the water. theres no way of really tellign whether white roots are better than dark root or vice versa. it will be interesting to see how a system with a seperate res performs
And I just use the nutramist model 3 and seriously fog 100+ feet of pipe. You could prob rig up your own but I say spend the 350 for a nutramist and you'll be foggin in no time
To churn. I use 1 part 30% peroxide to 100 parts clean decloranated water and flush this thru my system 1x a week. No I usually use the nutramist fogger because it is very effecient and just blow the fog onto 4 inch PVC with 4 inch t's every 12 ir 18 in for plant sites.
Yes you can grow on mist alone it's the best way to grow any plant. Personally I fog non stop. But I have to fog with dilluted peroxide a couple times a week to kill bacteria because my tubes are constantly moist
i think using a 5 head fogger would be better as you could run it on short bursts every few minutes like true aeroponics. having the fogger running all the time uses water more quickly. Try the five or six head foggers.
what is your ratio of peroxide to water(gallons) and do you just add that to your nutrient solution or to regular water? as well do you use a top fogger system like in this video or do you just put the fogger in your resvior below your roots? thanks
can you actually use foggers alone in aeroponics in short bursts every few minutes? I have seen the really powerful 5 & 6 head foggers. COuld i use one of these alone solely as my feeding system for my plants like a true aeroponics system with short burts every few minutes and not need a sprinkler system as well? Will fog alone support plants growth from start to finish. im gonna try using the really powerful 3 head fogger on a timer.
how long do you're foggers last with being in nutrients? I had a look at the nutramist as it looks good but it is just the same thing a fogger enclosed in a plastic case. Have you noticed any benefits from this? some say that ultrasonic foggers dont work well for plants. I wondered about trying one of those reptile misting systems
hey i love the vid but one question how high does the water have to be? and i notice that you put the exiting tubes on the bottem, haw does the water not run throught it? maybe you could make avid on how that works?Thnx alot awesome video!A++++++
has anybody on here actually built a true aeroponics system with air compressor and the full works. I would love one of those as they use only about 300 ml of water per day.
great video, great idea. how do you keep the water level for the fogger at a optimal depth? i saw the water supply line coming in but im wondering how you keep that water level constant i the chamber the the fogger is?
Great job with the instructional videos!! thanks for the time and effort to share the knowledge. Just got bit by the gardening bug with regular containers on the roof. Can't wait to get into the 21st century tho!!
Hydrotons are condos for insects!Look at the aphids crawling out of tube.Looking at the plants you can see they are already having an effect on the plants..A beginers mistake..
I use HighGromite..most pest cannot crawl across the rocks..similar to diatemacius earth..Check out my results using this medium in ..wwbuck my videos posted here..
Dude wow. It isn't everyday I learn something about hydroponic systems. The way your fogger box works is so simple and elegant. The thing I always had problems with in the past with foggers was water level. You can always float them (like in gutters). So the little PVC pipe work as an over flow from the box to your gutters keeping the level of nutes in the fogg box constant right. I dig your gutter system well done.
Hey Man sorry for my ill informed comment. I realize now that I was very mistaken. I am just starting out and would like to know what you would recommend for lighting as I am a novice at this stuff but I am interested in starting my own system. It need to be fairly inexpensive as I am on a student budget.
Hey, thanks for the great video, I am looking to build a hydroponic system and I was wondering if you know where I could find plans or instructions for building a similar fog system? I would love to find step-by-step instructions in something like a PDF file that I can print out. Any help would be awesome, thanks!
Dude...I have an idea for enhancing your fog system.
Since you have to take up space on your PVC fence post for the fog system...why don't you just create a space in the center of the post and instead of a PVC elbow (underneath) to dispense the fog, use a PVC "T" to direct the fog in either direction away from center. I think you'd get better fog coverage that way.
Just my two cents.
PS please reply with any ideas for using Drip, DWC and FOG in a PVC fence post system.
o.k., "better bush" tomoatoes and there are no sprayers from a water pump, dont wanna deal with them clogging, I only have a couple airstones in the root chamber connected to an oversized air pump and wanna add the fogger. bought it with a floater...can it go into the root chamber? how long and often does yours run for the tomatoes?
awesome video mate, really well done. i have a setup similar to yours but minus the fogger. i checked ebay and the only nebuliser thats really in my price range has 12 colour changing leds . i believe they light up 1 at a time but i'm not sure. would it be advisable to spray the lights black in order to keep the root chamber as light free as possible or would it be ok the way it is. thanks for any help you can give. and again, really well done, cheers
can you drop the fogger right into the bottom of the 5 gallon bucket with the hot hot pepper plant you have instead of putting it in the lil fogger box u made????is 100%humidity good for vegg such ass pepp tom corn ???
does any one know why i would have FOAM forming in my plants reservour im growing vegies with general hydroponic micro gro bloom im new at this and dont have a clue tried to google it couldnt find anything someone HELP!...thanks
Can't say for sure. Thing coming to mind is; If the return is splashing nutrients back into the reserovoir, it creates bubbles/foam witch could lead to your problem.
MY SUGGESTION: Dump your reservoir and start over! Clean everything that your solution touch: Reservoir, pump/line, air hose/stone and so on. Use "White Vinegar", scrub thoroughly & wash with hot/warm water. Now follow feeding chart and add 2ml or half tsp. of Hydrogen Peroxide per gal. every 4 days. Hope this helps N8tive!
My guess is algie. Make sure that you have an airpump & and airstone. (it will keep the water circulating). Also, make sure that your reservior, tubes, etc don't allow sunlight in. This induces algie growth and all it takes is ONE little bit to infest your entire reservior. (take something like a coat hanger with a little piece of cloth and slide it down your tubes if they're already black. If it has shit on it when you pull it out, there's algie growth. No bueno). Good luck with that!
hi bonsai. not to upstage Sy, but I do have a tried and true solution. I bought a 5-membrane mist maker for Halloween purposes. The unit is very heavy, but it snaps into a plastic housing. The housing supports the mist maker from below, and retains a Styrofoam donut from above. The whole thing came with the mist maker. The buoyancy maintains the mist heads at the optimum depth- which I think is around 1 cm. Perhaps you can rig something like this as well.
Please would you be kind enough to show me step by step how to build an aeroponics system? I heard you said it is a mixture of both hydoponics snd aeroponics. I would appreciate an easy to follow and build system. Thank you very so much in advance, I do appreciate your time in guiding me. is the pot normal pot plant plastic thing or is it special something.
I'm having trouble getting my foggers to fog water with nutrients in them. I was using some old nutrient tablets I had laying around in the house, Has anybody else had a similar problem that could be remedied with liquid nutrients instead?
lol you tell'em Ayden, Sorry all Had someone that was advertising his vids on my channels and being an idiot on top of it. I have him blocked at this point. Sorry again all for the inconvienance.
Also, I modified your design to provide Aero + NFT. I kept the top feed box and put it on the opposite side from the Reservoir, and brought a 1/2inch tube from a small 150GPH pump up there. The fogger produces a mist that falls into the growing chambers, as well as the excess water flows down into them and back into the reservoir.
I am currently in the process of building the system you have here from scratch. Is Aquarium Glue the same as Aquarium Sealant? I"m having a helluva time finding something that can seal/be submersed/ and isn't toxic!
Sealant is a type of Silicone. I thought Aquarium glue was a type of Cyanoacrylate. Too late though, I gave up and sealed it with Silicone ;) If it falls apart I'll redo it.
doesnt the membrane in the fogger clog up if you use nutrients in the solution? i thought that was the reason ultrasonic foggers arent viable for aeroponics.
how large of an area can that fogger provide 100% humidity for? im trying to decide between this layout(the tubes) or a box chamber. I would like to make a box chamber with vertical sprinklers and a fogger at the bottom or a seperate fogger chamber that funnels to the tops of the roots.
There are other benefits to atomized nutrient solution (fog). There exists a type of fungus that is in a symbiotic relationship with many different types of plant roots. Most indoor growing setups don't have the fungus, but a plant will most certainly have it in the wild. This fungus does not grow in extremely moist conditions (such as a hydroponics setup).
This fungus grows fine hairs that hugely increase the surface area of the root. There-by allowing the plant to absorb much more solution.
Love you videos... I think if you were to add a air pump to the fogger box, it will pump the fog where ever u want it to go... I work at a pet store and also install these units for chameleon set-ups where the chameleon needs 100 percent humidity once per hour or two... I place the fogger box at the bottom of the cage and with the airpump and tubing leading to the top of the cage, I am able to push the fog up as high as 4 feet, creating a foggy rain effect... love the vid's keep them comin!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience and hot to. I have been obessing with Hyrdoponics (and in my mind aeroponics) and this helps get me going. I had wondered about using a fogger and it is nice to see it in use.
Is the fan creating the motor humm noise in the video or are the pumps/fogger making that noise?
Unfortunantly, walmart sells nothing like a nerbulizer. And no, the misters at walmart will not work even a 100th as good as a fogger. The reason behind it is a nerbulizer breaks water through sound into particle size water molicuels, which absorbs into the root without drowning or choking it for air like a sprayer or mister would.
fog has weights. What i found is if unit is tilted at all that is the direction the fogg will 'flow'. Sence most units drain one side is high then the other so putting fogg on one end allowed (at least for me) the fog to travel the full length down the tube.
no, roots do better with a 'breathing' phase. Sort of like when you eat you have to stop to breath or what happens ;) .. this time completely depends on what kind of plants you are growing.
Hi Mefoo, I wondered: what happens when the power shuts down (or the fogger breaks)? Lots of plants will die within 30 minutes. Could you make an auto-overflow-system in case electricity stops? Battery? Or is there always a layer of water in the chamber (vinyl post)?
Apologies for all these questions (im not the only one) but this is a sign you are doing some very interesting stuff! Cheers~
This system has fogger and sprayers. so if fogger goes down no biggie. BUT if power is off you can have a problem. Mine is set up to leave about 3/4 inch of water inside of tubes for that exact reason. mine was down for over 2 days because my main sump pump blew on me and i didn't notice. I lost a good portion of the tomato plant but the rest lived. (tomato requies MUCH more water). so on that note I had 2 days before my plants started dieing beyond recovery.
Mefoo You Rock. You inspired me to try to build my own system too! I am going to experiment with a fog only system with a separate chamber for the water/nutrients and a fan that blows the fog into the grow chamber. Think it would be very cool to incorporate a battery backup in case of extended power outages.
Nutrified? hhahahahaha Oh and you have bugs.

Would that be work or is there a concept I am missing that would cause failure?

@HelloRectangle actually foggers require impurities in the water. Tap water. If you use distilled water, it fucks with their level-sensor.

hey i love the vid but one question how high does the water have to be? and i notice that you put the exiting tubes on the bottem, haw does the water not run throught it? maybe you could make avid on how that works?Thnx alot awesome video!A++++++
virginbirth 2 years ago
The bottom tubes where long enough to fit half way into the post. giving it 2 inches of water to sit in the vapour resevoir.
canadianmachine 2 years ago
has anybody on here actually built a true aeroponics system with air compressor and the full works. I would love one of those as they use only about 300 ml of water per day.

im kinda confused... when you are using a fogger do you still have to water the plants, or does the fog do it all?
screwhead650 2 years ago
great video, great idea. how do you keep the water level for the fogger at a optimal depth? i saw the water supply line coming in but im wondering how you keep that water level constant i the chamber the the fogger is?

carlamarie543 2 years ago
I dig your gutter system well done.

how often do you need to replace or refill the water?
also do you put any nutrients into the water?
Thanks so much

How long does the fogger stay on? And is it a drain to waste, or recovery? Is the water feed to the fogger just gravity fed?
psychorick1000 2 years ago
Depends on what is being grown. It drains into main root chamber. its ed from the same pump that feeds the sprayers.
Mefoo007 2 years ago
o.k., "better bush" tomoatoes and there are no sprayers from a water pump, dont wanna deal with them clogging, I only have a couple airstones in the root chamber connected to an oversized air pump and wanna add the fogger. bought it with a floater...can it go into the root chamber? how long and often does yours run for the tomatoes?
psychorick1000 2 years ago
awesome video mate, really well done. i have a setup similar to yours but minus the fogger. i checked ebay and the only nebuliser thats really in my price range has 12 colour changing leds . i believe they light up 1 at a time but i'm not sure. would it be advisable to spray the lights black in order to keep the root chamber as light free as possible or would it be ok the way it is. thanks for any help you can give. and again, really well done, cheers

does any one know why i would have FOAM forming in my plants reservour im growing vegies with general hydroponic micro gro bloom im new at this and dont have a clue tried to google it couldnt find anything someone HELP!...thanks
n8tivguitar 2 years ago
Can't say for sure. Thing coming to mind is; If the return is splashing nutrients back into the reserovoir, it creates bubbles/foam witch could lead to your problem.
MY SUGGESTION: Dump your reservoir and start over! Clean everything that your solution touch: Reservoir, pump/line, air hose/stone and so on. Use "White Vinegar", scrub thoroughly & wash with hot/warm water. Now follow feeding chart and add 2ml or half tsp. of Hydrogen Peroxide per gal. every 4 days. Hope this helps N8tive!
drewthedrummer 2 years ago
My guess is algie. Make sure that you have an airpump & and airstone. (it will keep the water circulating). Also, make sure that your reservior, tubes, etc don't allow sunlight in. This induces algie growth and all it takes is ONE little bit to infest your entire reservior. (take something like a coat hanger with a little piece of cloth and slide it down your tubes if they're already black. If it has shit on it when you pull it out, there's algie growth. No bueno). Good luck with that!

The fogger is supposed to float on the water surface so how do you regulate that?
bonsai108 2 years ago
hi bonsai. not to upstage Sy, but I do have a tried and true solution.

Mefoo007 2 years ago
I am currently in the process of building the system you have here from scratch. Is Aquarium Glue the same as Aquarium Sealant? I"m having a helluva time finding something that can seal/be submersed/ and isn't toxic!
nargoth16 2 years ago
Sounds like the same to me. Not sure though
Mefoo007 2 years ago
Sealant is a type of Silicone. I thought Aquarium glue was a type of Cyanoacrylate. Too late though, I gave up and sealed it with Silicone ;) If it falls apart I'll redo it.
nargoth16 2 years ago
doesnt the membrane in the fogger clog up if you use nutrients in the solution? i thought that was the reason ultrasonic foggers arent viable for aeroponics.
dyysan 2 years ago
They do .. but I have had them last anywere from 2 weeks to 9 months depending on how often the chamber is flushed.
Mefoo007 2 years ago
how large of an area can that fogger provide 100% humidity for? im trying to decide between this layout(the tubes) or a box chamber. I would like to make a box chamber with vertical sprinklers and a fogger at the bottom or a seperate fogger chamber that funnels to the tops of the roots.

What is the device called that produces the fog?

There are other benefits to atomized nutrient solution (fog). There exists a type of fungus that is in a symbiotic relationship with many different types of plant roots. Most indoor growing setups don't have the fungus, but a plant will most certainly have it in the wild. This fungus does not grow in extremely moist conditions (such as a hydroponics setup).
This fungus grows fine hairs that hugely increase the surface area of the root. There-by allowing the plant to absorb much more solution.
Ayden420 2 years ago
yes, the fungus is awsome! that actually have an auro/hydro fungus out now also ;)

Hi,
Do you think it makes sense to employ aeroponics for commercial systems ? How would you set it up ?
Ubreako 3 years ago
Just like how you use a water pump to push water around, the airpump will do the same!
kingbenjamin9 3 years ago
Love you videos... I think if you were to add a air pump to the fogger box, it will pump the fog where ever u want it to go... I work at a pet store and also install these units for chameleon set-ups where the chameleon needs 100 percent humidity once per hour or two... I place the fogger box at the bottom of the cage and with the airpump and tubing leading to the top of the cage, I am able to push the fog up as high as 4 feet, creating a foggy rain effect... love the vid's keep them comin!
kingbenjamin9 3 years ago
This is a good idea for those reading .. just make sure you are using a sealed fogging chamber if you go this route rather then gravity fed.
Mefoo007 2 years ago
are you also running some sort of drip system or where are the black hoses running on top of the post going?

Its a low presser sprayer system that each black hose goes to. ;)

0MrENigma0 3 years ago
y dont u just go to walmart and buy one of those mist things and take the neb. out. or steal it!!! it will work even better
ROCINRED 3 years ago
Unfortunantly, walmart sells nothing like a nerbulizer. And no, the misters at walmart will not work even a 100th as good as a fogger. The reason behind it is a nerbulizer breaks water through sound into particle size water molicuels, which absorbs into the root without drowning or choking it for air like a sprayer or mister would.
Mefoo007 3 years ago
wouldn't the mist be more evenly distributed if you put it in the middle so it has less distance to travail to get all the plants
ZeceFackler 3 years ago
fog has weights. What i found is if unit is tilted at all that is the direction the fogg will 'flow'. Sence most units drain one side is high then the other so putting fogg on one end allowed (at least for me) the fog to travel the full length down the tube.
Mefoo007 3 years ago
dose the end part get as much water/nutrients to effect the growth or is it not noticeable?
ZeceFackler 3 years ago
and if i were to use just the mist effect, do i keep it running 24hrs a day? Thanks!
sportsballer06 3 years ago
no, roots do better with a 'breathing' phase. Sort of like when you eat you have to stop to breath or what happens ;) .. this time completely depends on what kind of plants you are growing.
Mefoo007 3 years ago
if you were just to use the fogger

Do you have plans to make the hydroponic system shown?
Kohfe 3 years ago
Hi Mefoo, I wondered: what happens when the power shuts down (or the fogger breaks)? Lots of plants will die within 30 minutes. Could you make an auto-overflow-system in case electricity stops? Battery? Or is there always a layer of water in the chamber (vinyl post)?
Apologies for all these questions (im not the only one) but this is a sign you are doing some very interesting stuff! Cheers~
RonnieDogeyes 3 years ago
This system has fogger and sprayers. so if fogger goes down no biggie. BUT if power is off you can have a problem. Mine is set up to leave about 3/4 inch of water inside of tubes for that exact reason. mine was down for over 2 days because my main sump pump blew on me and i didn't notice. I lost a good portion of the tomato plant but the rest lived. (tomato requies MUCH more water). so on that note I had 2 days before my plants started dieing beyond recovery.
Mefoo007 3 years ago
Mefoo You Rock. You inspired me to try to build my own system too! I am going to experiment with a fog only system with a separate chamber for the water/nutrients and a fan that blows the fog into the grow chamber. Think it would be very cool to incorporate a battery backup in case of extended power outages.

Many thanks, very informative!
But I wonder, if the there is 100% moisture, how does the oxygen get on the roots?
Is the fogger mixing it into the water (or mixing water into the air?).
RonnieDogeyes 3 years ago
water into the air, with a very small molicule size. Air is pumped in from the airstone in the resevour that keeps your nutience moving.
Mefoo007 3 years ago
Ever think of using one of those party smoke machines? They had one at Wallmart on Holloween for $20 bucks

The smoke machines di not use water to make the smoke. and remember "smoke" is NOT mist ;) they will not work at all unfortunantly.
