  • my aviation teacher converted his car with a dc motor.

  • hi-- I'm glad to hear that. There are more and more private individuals like your aviation teacher and I that are converting gasoline cars to electric. When people see that they are practical, quiet, and efficient, they are more likely to buy EVs when they enter the showrooms in a few months, and that's what I want. We need to end our dependence on foreign oil.

Could you have your instructor contact me? I'd enjoy staying in touch with him-- thanks.

  • Nice looking conversion! Do you have some link with more info?

  • paker51-- The Zilla has been out of production for more than a year now, and Otmar has said that

EV Components would take over manufacturing in Washington, but there are no guarantees. The Zilla is terribly expensive, and a new design needs to be made with components not available when the ZIlla was born; a controller that is smaller, lighter, simpler and far less expensive is now possible whether it's made by Otmar or others-- and know there are others right now working to do just that.

  • The zilla 2K is still in production. EVComponets has taken over for Cafe Electric.

  • I just went to the EV Components web site, and they do indeed appear to be back in production on the Zillas, but they only list the 1K versions.

Zillas are still the best available, but grossly overpriced and they took way too long to get when Cafe Electric was making them-- I hope that changes with EVC. Also, I hope either Otnmar at Cafe Electric or EVC redesigns the unit using components available today that should reduce cost, size and complexity.

I yearn for the day EVs outsell ICE cars.

  • Thanks, John-- it's a Cafe Electric Zilla 2K. They are potent, but no longer in production.

I have a longtime friend, Chuck Glave, that's a jazz drummer there in San Antonio. I also have several relatives in the Houston area, some of whom are in the EV scene as well.

My brother, Jim, is a mainframe programmer and plans to open an EV conversion shop in Houston with a friend of his.

When I have my EV painted and detailed, I plan to put it in car shows and use it to promote the use of EVs.

  • nice controller!
