Disappointing plug-in. Sounds okay, but has none of the heart or balls of the original. Also really hard to program because of the way the slider interface is. Plus it's a resource hog. Also, I own a Kurzweil which has an actual ribbon controller, but it's impossible to get it to pair up with the CS-80v's ribbon.
Arturia did a good job with the ARP 2600, but to be honest, out of all the soft synths I own, the CS-80v is near the bottom as far as usage goes.
Everyone who has heard a real CS80 knows that this Emu is not even close. So yes, it is a nice Synth, but close to a CS 80 ? You got to be kidding. And yes, i know what i am talking about...
@Neocron Agreed. It sounds absolutely nothing like a CS80. Just another crap digital synth plugin. One of hundreds out there. It should be against the law to claim it as a CS80 emulation. Search this vid to hear what it really sounds like... "zoEkyBX7qsg".
@alphabeets What a stupid thing to say that is sounds "absolutely nothing" like it a cs-80. Something that sounds "absolutely nothing" like a CS-80 would be, for example, a hammond organ or maybe an electric guitar through a marshall. Obviously this emulation sounds *something* like a CS-80, stop being an exaggerating drama queen.
@Neocron Most of us have no intention of wanting to own one either and the vst will do just fine. To maintain the original would be a PIA as well as the initial cost. I don't exactly hear anyone that owns the original doing anything out of this world with it nowadays so its just another synth as far as I'm concerned.
@OrganCat sorry buddy if the virtual weenie version of the "CS80" sucks what do u think they will do with the "GX-1"???. the no#1 problem with the virtual's is they can't replicate either keyboard on "CS80" or "GX-1".there is no stand alone midiboard that can do it either. but perhaps there's hope i've seen the beginning stages of a "GX-1" replication under digital control with patch recall and midi.
it's about the music needing a sound.. and for the fucking mouth 'bout guitar playing.. check my music.. if you play my second myspace song.. i know : these are just ideas....notm y album!! will come!! soon!!-- which was recorded with a gr-1 and moog midi(vacuum) guitarsynthesizer, come back and discuss please...
Over 30 years, I have owned 3 Yamaha CS synths and currently own a CS-80.
The Arturia program is totally worth having, even if you own a CS already.
It is in no way a replacement, but an excellent simulator that really is reminiscent of the CS-80 more than any hardware synth. The additional Matrix modulation is just what you wish the real CS could grow (it is alive). I play the Arturia all the time, but mostly while I've been waiting 2 years and $1000 for my tech to repair & tune the real one.
on my opinion we cannot emulate the progressive coarse of the attack and and lfo stuff like a real analogue synth but, Reason propellerheads soft or arturia stuff do a good job for do synth stuff but cannot be compared to the real one, one of soft synth that impressed me is the Imposcar awesome is close to the perfect Oscar hardware stuff i can reconize the Ultravox and Yes sound when i play on it.
Listen it sounds good enough for something you can have on a laptop and carry around anywhere you go. The original is hard to find these days and weight a tonne. I will settle for this software version anyday and its still 1,000 times better than the crap modern synths.
i heard vangelis playing couple of notes on the real one and i was impressed but this is just weak and its suppose to be demo to make us want to buy this thing.
OK. So you just need to save up £3k, and you can have the 'impressive' sound you want. By the way, presuming you heard this through the computer's inbuilt speakers (or a desktop pair), did you really have the listening equipment to make a fair judgement? Then there's the ambience of the room Vangelis was in, the question of whether you route the software through analogue compression, etc before recording...
I know how people can be unhappy with the sound but in the end it's a virtual emulation, what do you expect.

Why is there almost no audio demos of this synth on YouTube?
aeko 10 months ago
Do you have a real audio demo? This is the same video as Arturia has on their site. I want to HEAR the synth, not learn about it.

Do you know of a GX-1 softsynth? I still can't get over the strings on Stevie's Village Ghetto Land. Still the best simulation around.

i have the same problem. i wonder if you could solve it, if you could then please tell me hahaha thanks

I am sorry but I uninstalled the program
WiggyRap 2 years ago
No- this demo does not do the program justice.
They kind of comp on the corny sounds that the synth
(real one too) will make if you let it. If you tweak it
up good you can do some amazing things, like multiple arppeggios
that MIDI clock while you do a TangerDream riffage over it.
Wicked lush pads, and evolving texture no problem. It does the
12 DB octave filter nice and added a 24 DB too
Does a good Yamaha GX-1 impersonation too !
pogsquatch 2 years ago
synth arppeggios are lame....
malmsteen doing it may be cool but, programmed ones are lame to the bone, imho
Audiobrasil 2 years ago
Hmm?
Rule of thumb: Does it sound good? Then it's cool. :P
Just because it's not too hard to do doesn't mean it sucks.
wauterboi 2 years ago
yes. so, does automatic arpeggios sound cool? NO.
geez, that´s my point. they r cool. NOT.
Audiobrasil 2 years ago
Automated arpeggios sound different than arpeggios that are played live? They shouldn't. Explain how they sound different.
wauterboi 2 years ago
99 % of the music consists of arpeggio's .
ps Yngwie's harmonic minor/major scales aren't that impressive... after 25000 times haha.. Yngwie is a very cool guitarplayer!!!!
SteefStevens 2 years ago
shut up
99 %?? maybe true if u only listen to boring malmsteen
if u can play them, than it´s cool
but arpeggios that play themselves automatically is the LAMEST
