In my view....

1. Corto Maltese looks like Barbie's boyfriend, Ken...

2. This project, had less deepness, lesser mystery and no atmosphere compare to the actually comic..

3. The entire artwork seems sort of ''patchwork''..

My favourite character is the Duchess,I love the Duchess but I totally hate the fact that she set the small chapel on the train on fire after she heard that...who was it,Denikin or the other White Army leader had died.

Being an Orthodox Christian myself I found that scene very disturbing and very bad.And that's what I hate in the Duchess.

Other than that I simply love her character.

I am an old fan of Corto Maltese, and in my opinion, this movie was surprisingly faithful to the original story. I don't think it takes away from that special Hugo Pratt feel at all. Very well done! Does anyone know if "Fable of Venice" has been made into animated film?

They draw Corto's skin totally wrong..looks like baby skin or a clean-cut hollywood celb..a sailorman who smokes, drinks, and go through all kinds of situations..c'mon animators!!

Corto is on paper and in our subconscious..end of story. Movie is good but something else.I'm italian, I own all the comic-books, and I happen to live not too far awat from Hugo Pratt's hometown, Venice. Corto is all about dreams, definitely not top notch animation bullshit..feel me?!

That's probably a nice movie...but Corto will always be a still picture, a fantasy that comes to life in the mind of a comic strip reader..and that more than a comic strip, it's a masterpiece.

Malteses character could be described according to Pratt himself as sophisticated kind of pirate.

In Maltese's own words he is "A nobly adventurer".

@FallenConstructed Dont take it the wrong way but in my experience "Globalization" in comics and in movies results normally in a terrible failure, take sherlock holmes for instance, yea, its not bad, but compared to the serie sherlock holmes with jeremy brett, its a nice piece of crap.

I think it looks outstanding,

like it was taken right from Hugo Pratt's own artwork,

I wish Tokyopop or one of the other anime companies or maybe Sony Classics would release it on dvd in the states.

According to the IMDB the reason we haven't gotten it over here is that the animation was done in North Korea.
