@aliAK13 8psi is about 1.5 times more air to the engine Doing 410rwhp is very possible. Boost that low does not need any internal modifications, just have to keep air intake temps low to avoid knock. With correctly sized supercharged that is nicely inter-cooled 8 psi is no big deal. Keep in mind that 10:1 compression burn multiplies charger temperature inside engine, if the intake is temp is low odds for knock are also low. You can also use richer fuel and/or w-m injection with stock internals.
Wow. Just wow. 1. Car sounds amazing and I wanna supercharge mine or throw an e39 M5 engine in it. 2. To the dude that said you can't install turbos on BMWs, WHAT? Your obviously on Youtube so look for a turbo 540i? I already found some. 3. To the other dude, bi means 2. Twin also refers to 2. Twin turbo and biturbo are the same thing.
@someonewithabmw I have only seen 3 with actual documentation of them running. Two s62's and a m62 in an e30.
Yes they are both 2 turbos. The difference is twin turbo is exactly what it is, two turbos that are the same (twins). Bi turbo is two turbos but can come in a multitude of configurations (twin, compound etc.). Dual and Bi is more of the same thing.
@luciodohc Internal parts are all stock. Supercharger set-up was installed @ 105k mi and has been daily driven very spiritedly. It now has 170k mi & still going strong. A very reliable set up that makes great fun power.
The supercharger kit is 9 grand plus about 24 hours install time. I also have the Dinan exhaust & the resonator removal pipe. This thing really barks!
Why did you go with supercharger? It seems that most of the boosted 540s are supercharged. Was there an advantage going with it instead of a turbo or turbos?
First, you don't need to twin turbo any V8, a single is just as feasible.
Second, twins would fit.
Third, I would assume he went with a supercharger for a number of reasons, not the least important of which is availability. A turbo on a 540 would probably have to be custom. Also, turbos are inherently prone to lag and produce power essentially only higher in the rpm range, whereas a supercharger provides far more useable power lower in the powerband, which also makes the car easier to drive.
wohoo! - just like Homer Simpson at the end of vid. =))))

@Omigodable Needless to say I was quite happy with that number! Dinan specs this kit for 414 @ the crank also.

there is no way its 410hp at the wheels with 8psi boost and no other internal engine modifications. 410hp at the crank, yes, not at the wheels

@M335 same thing, bi=2 twin=2

And ps, if you wanna twin turbo a 540i, you could make it fit. Find space or put it behind the wheels

how much boost
toxsic1 3 years ago
It gets up to almost 8psi at 6800 rpm. Gauge is small & hard to read.

You can't install a turbo on a BMW.

I've definitely seen turbos installed on 3 series cars including M3s.

you've gotta be kidding me. not only are they turbo'd all the time, the new 135i 335i and 535i all have twin turbos stock...
JeffroGymnast 3 years ago 2
u mean u cant install a turbo on a 540. u would have to put twin turbo cz its a v8 but that wont fit under the 540. on a 528i turbo is the way 2 go

turbo's make too much heat, and the supercharger from dinan allows you to keep the factory warranty.
