  • i'm trying compiz on vmware.

    i installed compiz manager.

    but it doesn't work. :-(

  • you cant do it in vmware because it can't use your real graphic card. I used vmware with linux an installed XP :-)

  • You mean you're using Linux in a Guest Hosted Windows operating system?

  • @Larmour

No, he is running Ubuntu or something, and running VMWare with XP installed on a VHD

  • Cheers bro! Was always wondering if it was possible to run Ubuntu and have desktop effects via virtualisation, but I think now to myself that it's totally impossible currently.

Think it's a good idea to Wubi and give Ubuntu a go?

  • @Larmour

Of course, it should run pretty good depending on your specs. I've seen some people run them on EEEPCs and Aspire one netbooks. :D

  • So you recommend using Wubi to do it?

    And it's totally safe?

Just use Wubi, install, restart, choose the partition, install Compiz shit, desktop effects!

    Wham!

What's the limitations of Ubuntu then?

  • @Larmour

Wubi is nice, and stable from what I hear.

It isn't like this video thought, I believe Wubi only gives you the option to boot into Ubuntu. Not have it paralleled with XP.

  • Yeah but, if I can boot into it, I can surely use virtualisation to run the likes of XP, right? What do you mean about not having it paralleled with XP anyways?

  • @Larmour

He is using VMWare to make it seem like a part of his Compiz Cube is actually windows, when it isnt, it is still Ubuntu, but the Windows Virtual Machine is fullscreen on one of his Desktops

  • Yeah so I can do that too right?

By using Wubi, installing the files, restarting, booting up in Ubuntu...

The desktop effects will work, and I'll just use VMware Workstation/Player to run Windows. Is all that possible?

  • @Larmour

Yes, but it wont be the windows on your hard-drive, you would have to make a new Virtual Hard-drive in VMWare then install XP on it.

  • Oh I've gotcha now, had a big thing wrote out there but then it all clicked! Lmfao...

So how can I make it Parallel to my Windows then?

  • Any ideas dude?
