You both lucked out. A grounded bat is often a sick bat, and anytime you or someone in your family is exposed to one, you have to assume rabies. That this little guy is content to let you feed it demonstrates that it likely doesn't have rabies, which causes a fear of all other living things and an aversion to water. Still, you took a risk you probably shouldn't have.
I am wondering if it's normal that the little baby bat that I rescued is angry and keeps yelling all the time. okay, when a giant animal would torture me I also would be angry. But I am a bit worried that he won't calm down and won't take any kind of food. could u tell me a bit of your experience? was little louisa as tamed as it seems in your video from the beginning? in any case little bartok isn't injured.
tonight my cat caught a baby bat and I rescued the cute little guy. in Germany this species of bats is called dwarf bat because it's the smallest bat in the world and he is looking like your brown bat. only smaller and black instead of brown, but I read that the baby's of the brown colored dwarf bats are black. I really hope that he take the food that I'll give him, when he had calmed down after the mean attack of my evil ;) cat. Pardon me due to my not really perfect (american)english.
The bats are awesome moskito-eaters. They will get rid of those pesky insects. Its probably a good idea to get a batbox if you have insects problems ;)
adorable! I think I'm in love! what are you feeding her? we had one stuck in our fireplace for two days. It was terrified when we rescued it and tried to bite my dad. Did she do that too initially but came to trust you? I hope ours didn't have rabies.
@zaishe18 actually a bat cant get rabies well it can but it would die within a weak and it would be sick and not even walk let alone fly. so i think your safe.
Most bats are pretty harmless to humans unless they have a disease, or they lay droppings in your house. They really have no desire to attack people at all - and hey, they're cute.
Hey just wondering. Can Bats be pets in some countries or are they not meant to be pets? I mean I heard Armadillos are kept as pets. So what about bats?
Bats need to fly free and are illegal to be kept as pets in the USA except by wildlife professionals. This bat is doing great on whatever she's being fed, but generally insect eaters like the brown bat can eat up to 1000 mosquitoes a night. They also need to hibernate. Your best bet would be to build a good bat house and have them as your outdoor "pets."
VirtualSaul: I clicked on your video when it came up beside my brother's newest video. Glancing over your comments, I discovered this and it made me laugh out loud... so much so, that it deserved writing it out in full.
She fared well. She gained weight and was sufficiently healthy to be released so we let her go in a wooded area near some caves that was by the office. Since I don't have tracking devices I do not know for certain that she's thriving but I'm confident she was in the best, possible position to do so. Thank you so much for asking!
I love the way they look like miniature canids when they eat. Last one I had in was a dehydrated pipistrelle, similar situation, starving and parched. Found in a church.

The most famous bat, the Louisville Slugger. I can't resist a pun. Nor can I resist taking care of a bat. They're flying rats. Gotta' love 'em.
