  • i see your shirt (cant tell if its a robe or a shirt) umm in the bible it sayes if you pray to god he will do it so if i pray to god he will apear, Right?

  • I have only just got on to youtube so you are really my first experience! Thank you for your careful thoughts. I believe in the existence of God and would say that practising being in the presence of God adds a dimention to my life although I accept this is not proof. It isn't necessary to have proof, either God is there or not, our believing won't make any difference. Proof would render faith superfluous. The difference between the OT God and the NT God puzzles me nevertheless

  • Wonderful video, Phil. I had no idea when I started watching it that it had been posted so long ago. I didn't even realize how long it was. You are such an interesting speaker that I would have seen the whole 30 minutes before realizing that it was longer than the usual video. Excellent points, and excellent examples. I read the Edwards sermon in my youth, too. That and my grandfather's thundering sermons had a large effect on my early life. But it's all in perception, isn't it.

  • This one was almost a year ago. I have gotten better at keeping the length shorter, but my videos are still too long for some. I appreciate your comments. I still think this was one of my best argumentative videos. Thanks for watching it.

  • I swear I heard a cat ghost in the backround.

  • Spoooooky

  • ...he knows ones thoughts and genuine fellings so if for some reason you feel for e.g angry or envious admit those feelings and ask god to rid u of them in pray, and jus like that, they will disappear.

  • he sees you when you sleeping. he knows when you're awake. he knows when you've been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake.

  • ...if ones faith can be proven to be consistent and up to standard if you will. This world is like a life long exam in which you prove ones faith by constantly proving to yourself and to god the pure- ness not of your actions but of what's inside (ur soul). One may think they can do someone a favour and 'trick' god into believing you are a good person. You cant trick god so stop trying,...

  • I can't trick a god I don't believe exists. Your comment has nothing to do with my video. You either didn't watch it or didn't get it or don't care.

  • But dont you feel that if u have a real experience because of something fictional, isn't the experience and the thing you have witnessed is real to you?

  • I answered that in my video if you paid any attention. The experience is real, but it does not prove anything beyond the experience. The orphan was not an orphan but an actor.

  • I apologise for letting this lapse so long. I basically forgot to check for video responses. Sorry about that. I can't listen to it in full right now, but I will.

Man, this God thing is starting to take on a life of its own! ;P

  • This is where YouTube sucks. Abortedsoul posted a very nice comment here. I went to reply, but I didn't notice that I had used my generous quota of three comments, do the reply button had become remove. Therefore, I removed my dear friends kind comments inadvertently because this site was designed by idiots. I want to scream. Anyway, thank you Matt for your kindness and I apologize on behalf of fucking dumbshit YouTube.

  • They only reacted too what was a known sorce for truth. This can be repeted today just as easy as before. Just have the news tell everyone the middle east has attacked America again and used a nuke. Then telling everyone we only have a short time to live. Watch and see what happens. My point is, one was a play gone wrong the other was a lie.

  • Just as Satin Lies to ppl and they belive the lie and trun away from God and his truth but follow the lie. God has never done anything wrong. For sombody that does not Belive in God you sure seem to be scared of his wrath.

  • Another great video. Very clear and respectful.

  • Love your intro and the work you had done w/ Zip's Xmas. Some 'beliefs' are so ingrained that they are not separate in the thought/reaction process. The same evocation of emotion was to be found in The Passion, to drive the point home by blunt force trauma. Watered down for the masses.

  • I think some humans sold a wrathful and severe God to would-be followes because it was in their interests to control people when Christianity first began to spread - they terrified people into the flock - but as we've progressed, most people are less interested in controlling others and more about respecting personal experience of this massive energy pool. What you said about the cat gave me an idea for a vlog, thanks :).

  • I agree with you, which, to my thinking, supports the idea that god was created by man. A real god would not change so radically with social fashion. I do like the idea of the massive energy pool, and I take a dip now and then.

  • I'm with you on that one buddy

God, for me, is just a word most easily understood as something beyond human.

  • This was a pleasure to watch, Phil! :) Its a very interesting discussion! I have had experiences too, everyone must have!

  • This was a pleasure to watch, Phil! :) Its a very interesting discussion! I have had experiences too, everyone must have! I'm an Aetheist myself so I dont know much about God... lol!

  • Sinners in the hand of an angry god is quite fucking amazing; it was my favorite sermon when I was 10 and a drinker of the blood of that particular Christ.

  • Yes, I too imbibed christblood as a child. Then I put away childish things and turned to hard liquor.

  • Happy Birthday Phil.

  • Sing it, baby!

  • I did, actually. Gave you a vid response.

  • I saw. I loved it so much I was encouraging you to sing it again.

  • Ever look into the root of the word spirit? The Greeks used the same word to describe both. Liquor was spirits, spirit was found within. I always thought the connection was interesting.

  • Simple and direct...thanks Phil!

  • simply brilliant.

  • Wow, Phil. Just... Wow! That was fucking amazing. You explained it so clearly for us. I was glued to the screen for every word of it!

  • Now I understand the true meaning of Fantastic - Babblings! Well done. Non-confrontational, and targetted exactly where you think you might have an audience in the person you are responding to.

  • He definitely is quite surgical. Phil, you're the man.

  • i had to read "sinners in the hand of an angry god" in English. it's a scary thing for a 15-year-old atheist to hear in school. very nice vid phil keep it up :)

  • I had to read in in freshman American Lit class in college. It scared me then. I re-read it this morning. It scared me still. Edwards' god is a mean bastard who wants to kill me in the most vile ways.

  • Who knew a theological discussion could include the topic of daytime soap operas - BEAUTIFUL! My great grandmother was the same way with her "stories" and it's because of her that I am forever addicted to "The Young and the Restless" (and, yes, I yell at those crazy characters constantly).

Thank you for sharing your insight, Phil.

  • There was no need to cut the video, you were on a roll. When you have something to say, say it.

  • Maybe I will upload it as Part 2.

  • My comment vanished into hyperspace, so I'll try this again. I just burst out laughing with the comment that "for most of history, God was a wrathful, narcissic, cruel, bastard". Yeah, you'd better not piss off such a God. But as we develop, so does the notion of God.

  • I'm glad he changed, 'cause he was starting to piss me off!

  • I'm wondering if we atheists might be able to put in a request for more changes? Like a *LOT* more. We may be able to come to a compromise here.

  • You made me laugh out loud when you talked about the nature of God. "for most of history

  • Nicely put.

  • I would say as new as Martin Luther, if not the Gospels themselves.

What do you think of the Cosmological arguments from Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas?

  • I don't know enough about their cosmological arguments. I generally consider what happened before the beginning of time to be none of my business.

  • Fair enough.

  • TRUTH!!!!

  • BRAVO...!

  • when i listen to you... I turn up the "VOL" go make a spot of tea and force every one in the house to listen...

  • I would have watched the 30 minutes! you're one of the few people here that can keep me interested for that long. Great video :)

  • BRAVO...!
