The only possible benefit that I can see to the concept of superdelegates is in the off-chance that the two candidates are tied or nearly tied for the delegate count, but one candidate has a clear majority of the popular vote. In this instance, I could see where the superdelegates could solve the problem by voting for the candidate that won in their particular state. In other words, they could be the "tie-breakers" in this instance.

She is correct, it IS about the delegates not the states. That's why there is that magic number of 12 hundred something delegates that you must win to take the nomination of your party. Having more states under your belt just means bragging rights, that's all and if you only win a lot of states but little insignificant ones, it still doesn't mean much.
