Terrific peice and a very exciting performance. I have one (Russian) recording which does not speed up in the final few bars as this does. Exciting as that is, I don't think he quite manages it, and if it's not marked in the score, he shouldn't anyway! But this is still pretty marvellous.
This performance has some brilliant qualities, no doubt, but the tempo goes out of control and he ends it on the wrong notes after the glissando!!! It's supposed to end on D's and he hit the octave C's! That's probably why he deleted it.
This is an awesome performance, but I think it got deleted because the cocker spaniel bribed youtube to suppress it. BTW, sorry I can't attribute this to the original poster, but I will pass on the best comment I saw from the last time around: "How the hell did they ever figure out that was in D minor?"
this is a sublime piece of music, i cant beliee at his Prokofiev never got credit for his masterpieces only for his ballet pieces.... it was performed amazingly as well, i am so sorry for my neighbours who have to listen to me playing this lol
I think this is positively the best version on youtube, and I'm taking into consideration Prokofiev, Richter, Gilels and other giants alike... Who is this guy?
This, my friend, is Xaiotang Tan. He's won a couple international competitions, and he often includes this piece in his programs. No wonder, he does genius things with it!
w.o.w....omg...that gave me a queezey feeling in my stomach...but not like a bad feeling....like it was so god that it made me feel weird....but i liked it....it was AWESEOME!!!!! he is so good...
@mrmonkeybuns hers is good..i reeeally iek how she does prokofiev's 7th sonata precipitato...its awesome...she just interprets prokofiev really good..i liek her...she is awesoem...she coudl be making a million mistakes throughout the whoel piece adn it still woudl be considered genius just because it is martha...=)
@mrmonkeybuns Argerich has a stellar interpretation of this piece. It is technically perfect and nice and quick. I actually prefer "Tang Tang's" (Xaiotang Tan's) performance of it though, because he makes it go wilder and crazier, and it's still just as secure as Argerich's (although hers is a tad faster).
kind of shitty acoustics. But nicely performed.

Thanks, OrangeSodaKing - then what he does is fine. And I felt churlish anyway, being critical of something that was generally so impressive.

This guy is so insane on the keys and this crazy piece. He brought a lot of action to it a lot of other players left out.

when I first heard this piece, I was sure that it was for four hands. This is an unbelievable piece of music and a superb performance.
plumbersteve 1 year ago
Great performance and big hands indeed. It is so clear in every voice level. If last D were correctly played, it would be perfect, I think.

@aizendarwin Yes, he missed a note at the end, but did you hear how many he got right? ;)
OrangeSodaKing 1 year ago 9
@OrangeSodaKing that might be true, but ending on a natural C in D minor kind of leaves you on edge, and frankly with a bad taste in your mouth.
shaylen911 1 year ago
Perhaps he is no Martha Argerich, but this performance was nothing less that memorizing

did he not play a wrong note RIGHT at the end?! like a C, instead of a D? :|
shaylen911 1 year ago
@shaylen911 Sounds like a C, but it could be the tuning of the piano in that register is off.

i like the version from gyorgy sandor. it's faster and more fluent but it sure doesn't have the same kickass sound effect and tuning tuning as this.

I'm not sure with whom I should be more impressed: Prokofiev for writing this awesomefest or Tang for being able to play it so damn well.
