I would like to know what is was like to have an 'icebox'. Did the ice man come and put ice in the icebox? How did that work? They look very small. Did you have a coal man and use coal?

I miss the simplicity that existed when I was growing up. The women who did things together, helping each other, sharing with family and neighbors - a sewing machine, a pressure cooker for canning, fruit from backyard trees or an abundance of tomatoes from the garden - Clara reminds me of these women. We don't do those things anymore, no one has the time, and we have lost something precious. More tragic is that children have lost a fine example of caring and sharing. Thank you, Clara.
too funny Miss Clara, Skan is a gorgeous place, winters there are magical. I really miss Maggie's Pie Shop, didn't move too far away but would drive back if Skan would put out a "Olden Days" Street Cafe...all you Ladies could teach the young one's something new!

@jerami101 maybe.. but i know a few women. who have had 3 or more children and still look great. My grandma had 12! she's 72 and my grandpa is 80. They both looks like they are in their 50-60's. The secret is being positive and active. And of course eating healthy.

I love your videos. I hate to say it but we are going through a depression and i think a lot of people are in denial. Look at Invisiblepeople on youtube and you will see how many tent cities are going up now in the US. When I saw it I was shocked to see how many people are homeless now here. We are lucky and have a place to live now but we were actually homeless after Hurricane Katrina for four months. I appreciate the recipies from Clara.

@celticchrys The reason this depression doesn't seem as bad as the Great Depression is because the government is supporting people with unemployment, foodstamps, and other social programs. Take away those programs, and see if
we are not in worse shape....and it's still going to get worse.
@jeaninvirginia I agree with your comment about the depression. When my parents went through the depression there were no such thing as government social programs. Life was a whole lot more harsher even in Canada but people were helpful to each other because the need was so great.

I love your videos. I hate to say it but we are going through a depression and i think a lot of people are in denial. Look at Invisiblepeople on youtube and you will see how many tent cities are going up now in the US. When I saw it I was shocked to see how many people are homeless now here. We are lucky and have a place to live now but we were actually homeless after Hurricane Katrina for four months. I appreciate the recipies from Clara.

What a great bunch of videos....thank you clara for sharing your stories and recipes. It brought me back to days of being young and spending time with my grandmother who was born during the great depression... Keep up the good work, going to go find your cook book online now....all the best!!!

@celticchrys The reason this depression doesn't seem as bad as the Great Depression is because the government is supporting people with unemployment, foodstamps, and other social programs. Take away those programs, and see if
we are not in worse shape....and it's still going to get worse.

@jeaninvirginia I agree with your comment about the depression. When my parents went through the depression there were no such thing as government social programs. Life was a whole lot more harsher even in Canada but people were helpful to each other because the need was so great.

i enjoy all your videos i just discovered them and they are very relevant to my current situations in life, times are hard (but not nearly as hard im sure as it was for you) but still hard and all these videos are very helpful and i hope you are around for much longer to teach us your acquired knowledge
