Thanks. In my country it was the top-of-the-line brand that was "officially" available to buy in the early 80s. Believe it or not, there was a 5-year waiting list for this type, and used ones sold for more than the official price of new ones... And you had to wait 20 yrs or more for a phone line to be installed. Realities of real-life socialism. Those days are now gone, and Hungary is just another consumer society, but I still miss the calm and safety we lived in those days.

So Lada was made on the licence Fiat 124 wich was a rally champion car in 1960ies. You can feel it when you drive a Lada on the road or off road. Toyota has a lot of extra wáo but Lada is still a Car. You have to drive it not only stitting behind the wheel...

As for poor crash tests, well I think that it is amazing that a car designed in the 1960's still passes a modern crash test to this day.

I used to think like you about Lada's, until my mate got one. When he first got it I did not like it one bit. After a few months of riding around in it I just had to have one. So I bought one for next to nothing and absolutely love it. I can never see my self going back to a jap car like I use to drive. I still drive jap cars occasionally, but when I get back in the Lada it feels like home.
