Is there a way to fast forward a certain part of a clip? For example: I'm recording for a game. I'm recording the entire time I'm alive. I want to fast forward the parts where I'm not killing anything, and then have it slow down again when someone shows up that I kill. When I increase the velocity is crews things up and adds the beginning of my video to the end of my video etc.
If you use the velocity envelope it is very difficult to match the audio to the video. You can right click on the end of the audio track and drag it shorter or longer. You should see some wave lines where the mouse is when you drag it. This indicates it is compressing or expanding the audio not the cutting it off. If you do the same with the video you can easily match them up. But as I said the using the velocity envelope with the original audio track doesn't line up well.
I agree vegas is an open book you learn something new everyday. I have the velocity part down now it's just playing with the audio to match it thanks a lot!!!
Hey this was a great tutorial this is saved in my favorites indeed. Keep up the good work and I will be subscribing as well sir have a great new year!!!
The good news is that it is still there, just they disabled it by default. Goto "INSERT" in the menubar and choose Video Envelopes. Then choose "Event Velocity". That will turn the green line back on. There is a better way to do this though. Hold the CONTROL key then click on the end of the clip and drag. You can increase or decrease the clip speed that way. If you split the clip up before changing the speed you can apply the same quick change to each section independently.
hey i used the velocity thing but my audio does not keep up with the video is there a evolope for audio to or a mater one for both video and audio? plz help
There are two ways to speedup/slow down audio. The easiest way is to hold CTRL and drag the clip to the desired length. The other way to do it is to use pitch shift in the audio fx options. By increasing the pitch you speed it up, by decreasing the pitch you slow it down. You can lock the duration in pitch shift also but you don't want that checked if you want to change the speed of the audio.
thanks a lot, if ur not to busy, can u tell me some "hotkeys" or whatever there called like 's' is to split and ctrl and dragin clip longates it , stuff like that, help plz , if u can
If you use the velocity envelope it can be very difficult to resync the audio. The best thing to do is to cut the clip into sections. Where the velocity stops and starts. That way you can use time stretch to correct for the various speeds... continued...
Instead of velocity you should go about this differently. Cut the video into the segments where you want it to speed up or slow down. Then if you put the mouse over the right end of the clip and hold the control key you can drag the clip to slow it down or speed it up. This will keep the audio in sync for that section of the clip. Let me know if that made sense.
I'm glad their helpful. There certainly are a lot of different ways to use Vegas. Even after years of using it I often find new ways to do things. Thanks for the great comment!
Yes, kind of. You can hold the "CONTROL" key while you drag one end of the video. That will slow it down. If you split the clipe where you want it to slow down and then drag it to the right it will become very slowed. That's not exactly the same thing but it can still be used to do what you want, it's just more work to do.
Thanks for that. I recently did a video with a few long sections of nothing happening and I wished I knew how to speed up those sections. And now I know.
Thanks pookie! I use velocity envelope alot but learned some new tips here. One thing that is tedious though is that slow mo makes the clip blurry unless you go to switches>disable resample. Is there a way to disable resampling by default?
Not in version 7 or before. I don't think 8 allows the DEFAULT for resampling to be changed either. It's not a bad idea to have the option only because you don't always want the frames to fade into each other. Sometimes the choppy/quick flip works better.
Hey I have a big problem . o.O
The green line has like.. disappeared !
And I didn get the HOLDING CONTROL thing, please help me!

Bah...is there any way to do this in vegas 6.0b? The only way I know how is to do it with loop playback rates and that takes up the full clip :(
bradthecyberdemon 4 years ago
You should be able to do this with vegas 6. It's been a long time since I used 6 but I'm pretty sure it has the velocity envelope.
