Although the Clinch is essential for fighting, it is not the end all be all of fighting..You have to 'get there' first if at all. The fight might end in Kicking or punching range or even 'Weapons' range if in the street! Now anything can happen as there are no 'scripts' in real fighting, But It is highly unlikely that you will be in a one on one scenario in the street, and if so, it is a good chance that your assailant will be armed & you will most likely be ambushed, not 'challenged' head on.

People doubting the clinches effectiveness is pretty ignorant figuring you can just watch Mma highlights and see for yourself. And as for street fights well every style has flaws but the point is to utlilize the clinch when your in the best sitiuation to do so. Pulling down on the head and keeping them close will decrease their punching effectiveness And keep this in mind kneeing their balls before they knee yours is also an option then as they bow there head you go for the face.

I wondered the same before I trained in Thailand, and then youu discover that the knees and throws are the main point rewarded techniques...thats why they focus on that.

From the muay Thai clinch you can throw, grab arm bars, head butt, punch or elbow your opponent...its pretty effective and real...I suggest someone who doubts it to try it against a real muay thai fighter...like everything you have to train it hard to get it realy effective. But I can assure you it works and you can deliver any other technique that is ilegal in sports, as hiting the eyes...very effective for real fighting , its just like chi sao or any other sensitivity exercise¡

I believe you are refering to a street fight, well yes someone can hit u in the groin, or even bite your leg i guess, anything can happen in a street fight.

The ideea is to get him in a clinch, pull his head down and hit him with a knee as fast as posible. Normally if your grip is good he cant do anything to escape it and will not have the time to think before your first knee lands.

Ofcourse if you are 70 kg and your opponent is 90-100+ kg even if u have a good grip he will lift and throw u

When in the Muay Thai clinch the idea is to grab their necks and pull them down for a knee-strike.

However both parties understand that so to prevent this from happening, if somebody attempts to clinch, you push your head onto their shoulder which stops them from pulling it down.

There are other factors in play but the whole idea is to not allow the opponent to elbow/knee strike.

The main aspect of the Muay Thai clinch involves controlling the position of the opponent's head. Like most wrestlers know, once you control the person's head, you control where his body goes because his body follows where his head is pointed. This is how you drive motorcycles too. My point is, the head controls where the body goes.

In the Muay Thai clinch, the opponent's head is controlled so he is unable to throw any retaliation shots.

Alot of clinch also involves throwing your opponent to the ground so in a street fight, if they are coming in quickly throwing punches you can clinch and throw them to the ground quickly. If you keep throwing them to the ground everytime the try and punch they arent going to want to fight very long.

yes this is true in a sport environment. Whats stopping the opponent from punching you in the groin seeing as how you basically offer it to him in the clinch. Of course its not allowed in sport fighting, which is why the clinch is successful in the ring, but when there are no rules and an opponent will do anything in his power to get out including maybe stabbing you while you clinch him, i dont think i would go for one in a fight unless it was quick in and out.

Once two people engage in the street it usually stays engaged in a Furious type of Clinch and then, if someone isn't knocked out, right to the ground. Clinch Fighting is extremely important and practical for Street Fighting & Pro Fighting. Most people lose in this range because they think it is not essential to know.

Dude if you've ever taken Muay Thai, you would know that when you throw a Muay Thai kick, one hand has to drop to counter the violent rotation of the kick. If you don't do it, you will over rotate and lose balance. There is a way to drop it as to maximize the protection with the other hand, shoulders, and chin.

i just did a seminar with malaipet yesterday. It was very good. A lot of little tricks that help out. We went overa lot of clinch work and throws and sweeps as well. it was good!
