How do you install the pen sensitivity on Ubuntu 10.10 x64?

I used these commands for my Bamboo:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:doctormo/wacom-plus

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install wacom-dkms

The Bamboo works, but I works like a mouse no sensitivity.

@KenatoxZenzo A tablet is something like a SmartBoard, have you ever seen one? ^_^ You can look up pictures about tablets, i used to not know either, i looked it up, now i REALLY want one. :) It's sorta something that you hook up to your computer, it has a screen, and you draw with a pen and it goes onto the computer. I've never had a tablet, so I'm not really experienced, but that's about all I know :)

@KenatoxZenzo Oh don't worry, I was like that, LOL. I was lucky enough to have a nice person to tell me NICELY. Anyways, a tablet, is something like a drawing pad which you connect to the computer with a usb cable, and it comes with a pen . You will have to look at the screen while drawing, but it's not really hard after you get used to it. try googling it. Hope I helped, cause someone answered before me, LOL.

THe cheapest Wacom tab is like 99 bucks. Its the bamboo and its really useful. Comes with photoshop elements and corel (Which are both very useful. PSE isnt the full PS, so dont get too excited XD) But yeah, tabs are great

A pen tablet is not absolutely necessary. I just use a mouse and I'm happy.

You absolutely need to get a tablet to paint digitally. Painting with a mouse is as useful as drawing with a brick. If you can't get a tablet, you are better off sticking with traditional tools, IMO. The amount of time it takes to make something look decent with a mouse, is well, way too much time, at least if you want to make a living with your digital art.

How long does it take you to finish a drawing with a background? How long would it or does it take you to draw a comic page with 5 panels? You could do it much faster with a tablet.

Never heared of a Pen tablet?

If you are using a mouse, your lines will be shaky of course!

But If you use a graphic- or pen tablet it isnt shaky!

Bamboos are a good beginners choice, but there are a lot more advanced tablets. Wacom is by far the most common choice when considering tablets, and their new product, intuos 4, is just amazing but for a price.

some people find drawing with a mouse easier because you get the steady accuracy of drawing with the 'curve line' tool.

I still use it to line my drawings before colouring because when I use my graphics tablet I draw things really sketchy.

Ok heres for all of you people who can't draw when you open Gimp.

1)Open Gimp

2)On the "Pad" that opens, click on File, New.

3) A box will open, 2 options here

a) for beginers, click ok

b) choose the size you want ur "drawing pad" to be click ok

4) GREAT JOB! you can now draw!! yay!

Actually, yes it IS possible. I learned how to since I'm a natural artist anyway but you just need a steady hand. I have made some pretty amazing stuff with ordinary programs so I would just say:

1)take your time

2)focus

3)practice

Thats all you really need XD

Anime is a style and some people call it art some not. I call it art depending on the artist and how they draw and if they put a feel into it. Anime is a very complex way of drawing. I know some artists that are amazed at people who can draw in an anime style and most of the time the reason was because they cannot draw things like hands or faces all that well where as most people who draw anime can.

Saying part of another people's culture is "nothing special" is considered an insult. If I went ahead and said Chinese watercolor was nothing special, I'm being totally insensitive to their culture. Calling anime art "nothing special" is no different than saying DaVinci's work was "nothing special."

On top of that, anyone can be an artist. Lots of artists, including anime artists work really hard. Stop undermining their efforts like you've made a huge effort yourself.
