I have John doing this (with just an acoustic guitar that's plugged in), and another song live on the Dean Martin show. Unfortunatley it's on a betamax tape and I dont have a Betamax no more.
@1997jonathan12 that version is sang by John Sebastian and its way better in my opinion, sadly you can't find it anywhere for free except his myspace page.
The other version is referred to as the "Finale" and is on the soundtrack album. Actually , that arrangement is a medley of "Big Boy" and the song "Lonely". "Lonely" is also a stand-alone instrumental song, featuring JB's harmonica.
In the early 1970s, John Sebastain appeared on the Flip Wilson show and did great solo performances of "Big Boy Now" and "Lovin' You" with just acoustic guitar. It would be neat if it ever showed up on YouTube, as well.
This must be a Re-Recording because this song sounds noticeably different from the flip side that I just listened to on the 45 record. The instrumental near the ending of the record isn't even on the 45 rpm version. Wonder where this version is taken from?
This recording is from the album You're a big boy now,(on cd available together with What's up Tiger Lily) which has also 2 other versions: Dixieland Big Boy and "The Finale"
Sebastians solo album "John B. Sebastian" has another version. The 45 record is indeed different.
a young richard dreyfuss starred in a movie titled the apprenticeship of duddy kravitz, anyone familiar with the screen version of this song and who performed it ?...i recall it was instumental
コッポラ監督初期の青春フィルム、"You A Big Boy Now",ラヴィン・スプーンフルのコーラスが嬉しかった!ただし、日本では正式公開しなかった! #eiga

one of the most pleasant, relaxed voices of all time, he could fit in the same category as smokey, ottis and alot of the great mo-town singers.

A heavily orchestrated slicker version was on the 'B' side of Six O Clock.
I prefer that one but this is okay too.

There's a much better, slower, less bouncy version of this song by John Sebastian solo (I think). I wish it was on youtube.

Walt, right. I believe it was on the "John B Sebastian" album..his first solo endeavor.

For whatever reason, this was the only Lovin' Spoonful single that didn't chart at all. Perhaps it wasn't psychedelic enough for the summer of '67.
