  • great review

  • I wish linux or Ubuntu would look more polished than it does, as polished as OSX or Morphos.

I also think they canonicl should include MS fonts, like Times, Times new Roman and others.

Ubuntu might be better than before, but I wouldn't install the way it is.

  • @Ronickon It is customizable, especially if you go with Kubuntu or another KDE distro.

  • @mkdalynn Even after customization, it looks like second best.

it can't win against OSX, nor Windows.

It's only advantage- is that it comes free.

  • will microsoft office work in ubuntu?

  • @uasscrack no, but there are alternatives such as open office

  • @uasscrack No, but there are alternatives, Libre Office is installed by default and has everything you would get with MS Office.

  • its awesome, how the hell do they make money?

  • @Th33M33 From the Ubuntu website: "From IBM to Google, Firefox to Wikipedia – some of today's best software is based on an open-source model. Shared efforts. Shared principles. No cost." AND "It's managed and funded by Canonical. Canonical is the number-one Ubuntu services provider. Companies can choose to receive expert training, support or consultancy for a fee that goes towards the continued development of Ubuntu." Hope that answers your question :-)

  • @porterejohn ty

  • I only wish that someone would design a high-end graphics API for Linux. Maybe then we could get some games coming to the Linux platform. I use Windows primarily for the ability to play games... Oh, when, when will the underdog ascend to its throne?

  • A very good and informative review, thanks a lot, mate.

  • Thank you for the informational video :-) One problem i can not get it How can i chat and brows at the same time on the screen ?Like you can do with windows, you have tabs at the bottom with what you are looking at.Anybody know how you can achieve this ?

Great Work ! keep up the good information...;-)

  • thanks! =)

  • Why is 8:56 on a mac

  • the only thing i dislike is that it looks like OSX..... :(

  • yes

  • and btw is Ubuntu free?

  • @argonautslv To answer your questions:

-Steam and its games do not work in Ubuntu

-You do not need an anti-virus

-Yes, Ubuntu can be used for free, no strings attached.

  • @argonautslv it is free

  • @argonautslv Free in terms of money and free in terms of freedom - completely.

  • And do you need an Antivirus? (I use avira)

  • @argonautslv

     Free Linux Anti-Virus Programs

    Avast, BitDefender, ClamAV, AVG

    and others

  • Is steam and steam games running on Ubuntu?

  • i am bout to convert to linux but frist im trying to figure out if it is conpatable wit my favorite programs i use like, fl studio , itunes , real player , sony vegas pro ,winrar , winff , cool edit pro , bittorrent , k - lite , avast , adobe products , and most inportant my netgear wireless usb wi fi adapter . if u can anwser any of my question plezz do so .And im wourding what programs linux use for music , and other tasks related to features i use so i can research them befour i be consern

  • @piaaMRBASS Basically, when you switch to Linux, you will need to find alternatives to the software you use on windows. For example, iTunes = Banshee, fl studio = LMMS + Audacity + Ardour, Real Player = VLC, Sony Vegas Pro = Kdenlive, WinRar = preinstalled, WinFF = ffmpeg, cool edit pro?, bittorrent = qbittorrent, k-lite = preinstalled, avast = no need because no virus on linux, adobe products = Not available. Netgear USB wireless adapter = Windows driver wrapper. Hope that helps. :-)

  • @InfinitelyGalactic you can get flash player

  • @InfinitelyGalactic are you serious about no viruses on linux??

  • @Antonio001z Yes indeed...no viruses.

  • @InfinitelyGalactic omfg wow. . . so even if say i went on a porn site still no virus?

  • @Antonio001z yes

  • @animefan419 holy shit , this is amazing

  • @piaaMRBASS or just run WINE a program on linux that allows you to use windows apps or just dual boot which is supper easy to do. just insert the cd or usb and click dual boot instead or standard single operating system

  • hey guys i want some truth in my soup

  • many of the features here seem like a rip off of os x lion, esp. the touchpad, scrollbar and other simplified ui elements, app store, thats a good thing but im just saying

  • Your windows movies, pictures and other files should be back up and copied over later if you do a fresh install of Ubuntu

  • do I need antivirus, firewall and all that security stuff for ubunutu? also do ubuntu use the same kernal as mac?

  • hey can any1 help me wot web cam to purchase tht will work on ubuntu 11.04

  • If I were to switch from Windows 7 to Ubuntu how would I keep my files/games/music and movies?

  • @mufcsupporter1 You can mount during the installation you can mount the NTFS partition on your home directory or in a directory named /windows and/or do a dual-booting conserving Windows (**puke** ¬¬') and having Ubuntu/OpenSuSE/Fedora/Linux Mint/Chakra or any you want.

  • ubuntu :its free:

  • I watch this on ubuntu

  • Very informative! Thanks for the review!

I'm brand new to ubuntu/linux over here... and I'm really enjoying it!

  • @iOSXthings Windows Have Game maker But I love it !!! Only For Game maker

Visit To yoyogames page on Youer Fucked Mozilla of LINUX

Windows Microsoft FOREVER is best SYSTEM

Desgin Linux = Desgin Mendium 0.000.001 milion Programs hahahah

    Easy

    +50 bilion programes

  • @valiibr Wow , you wrote that and look like a complete retard . Excuse me a MORON and a dumbass , your a bad name for retards .

  • Wow, it's so amazing!

  • In the newer 11.10 ISOs they removed Gnome shell because of some conflicts with ATI drivers, I experienced those problems on Linux Mint.

  • xubuntu better

  • Im a huge windows 7 fan. Im also a huge iPhone fan.. Im burning Ubuntu to disc rite now, and Im going to try it out. I agree, Windows 8 looks like a pile of crap

  • This logs me out everytime I open something with flash usage like Farmville. -_-....It wasnt doing this to begin with. Sucks not being able to use Unity 3D.

  • @LivingInEnvy Try running updates?

  • @dg14813 I have many times. I also have it set to automatically check for updates. Ill be trying again but I doubt itll work.

  • @LivingInEnvy That's weird, but Ubuntu is known to have issues with certain hardware. If you haven't already you can submit the bugs that you've been having. I've experienced some on Ubuntu 10.04 with old Pentium 3 PCs where the gnome panel would disappear at random times.

  • @dg14813 I may have been able to fix it. I was able to open several flash demanding windows without a crash surprisingly. It may be related to Unity 5 which I had previously worked with. I tried installing it to fix the Unity 3D issue, and it only partly installed since it looks the exact same but might have filled in whatever was missing.

  • WOW! Looks a little to much like OSX!

  • Wanna get an alternative Linux OS to run alongside Windows 7. Bought another internal hard drive to install and use it on. Been doing plenty of research on various distributions. Looks like either Linuxmint or Ubuntu, not which one to go for. No point putting both on hard drive since they seem so similar. So what would anyone suggest is best? Many thanks. I'm only 14 and new to anything outside of windows

  • 00:08 is a WINDOWS LIVE MOIVE MAKER HEYYYYYY LINuX is SUKS WINDOWS IS BESTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

  • @valiibr Windows 8 will suck, go apple or get linux!

  • @iOSXthings Agreed, I wouldnt be surprised if they just canned Windows 8. It looks fucking terrible.

  • wats ur favorite os fedora, ubuntu, luninux ?

  • if I was to buy a computer would you suggest windows 7, Ios5 or Ubuntu ?

  • @Mochimoish My cousin has had all 3 and he recommends Mac (not iOS as you said). If you want to buy a gaming machine, though, you should get a PC with Windows 7.

  • say "coherent" again.

  • Loving ubuntu

  • I really hat unity... so much in fact that I rather use 10.10 rather than downloading the latest version, it makes my pc feel like its running Windows Vista, but after watching this vid I'm actually considering it since Ubuntu is my favorite distro and I rather not change. Anyone can actually say a good word about it?

  • I might change to ubuntu soon.... it looks even better than Windows 8....

  • @benjaminmomoney Oh boy it is, better than windows and it looks gorgeous on my screen also, at the beggining you will feel a little be kind of lost using it but the feeling goes away really quick.

  • Windows it's better.

  • Great video

  • Thought I changed to LinuxMint12 too (just for out of the box features) I have to say that Ubuntu is really easy to use/configure and that it is going in the right direction. For example me thinking about purchasing a tablet PC I would be deeply interested in an tablet with Ubuntu on it. They are concentrated on inventing new design etc. Stability will come soon enough --> Do NOT abondon Ubuntu!

I wish Ubuntu and FOSS all the best

  • i think sony should buy ubuntu and create an ubuntu webbrowser and apply it to the ps3

  • Ubuntu>MAC>Windows

People, an operating system is a graphical user interface (gui) with a set of apps stacked on top of a kernal. (Linux, Darwin, NT)

Basic diff between OS kernels & stacks: With MAC you get a 100% free open source kernel called Darwin with a closed source apps & gui stacked on top

With Ubuntu you get a 100% free open source kernel called Linux & 100% free open source apps and gui stacked on top.

M$ you get closed source kernel & stack based on Windows NT & lots of viruses

  • Looks like something I'd install, Oh wait I currently Am!

  • @Mrnintendo64guy Good for you!

  • What's the difference between Ubuntu and Linux?

  • @Mist3RC0ndom I dont know if I am right but ubuntu is Linux is like there are different Linux versions with different names

  • Unity has gotten a lot of undeserved flack. As a gnome 2 and kde user I thought unity was only good for my mini laptop, but as I got used to it it's now my desktop too.

A lot of the critiques it got have been fixed (opening f.e. a new terminal when one is already open) and the experience as whole is awesome.

The only thing I don't like is actually the software centre. It's too bulky, commercial and apple-like. Fortunately I can always install synaptic and use apt-get from the terminal.

  • ubuntu sucks,

    Try Windows Vista

  • @Xbox360fanboyer HAHAHAHA WINDOWS VISTA IS SHIT

  • @iPLAYtheSTAT1ON Windows Vista and 7 is actually one of the most innovative and fastest OS created.

ubuntu is for loosers who havent enough money to buy a *Microsoft* OS

  • @Xbox360fanboyer I never said anything about 7, i said Vista is a piece of shit, and everyone knows it, luckily enough for me i have enough money to buy Microsoft OS, but choose not to because it's shit, but instead get it for free, because i refuse to pay £100+ for a piece of shit of an operating system. I own a Mac, own W7, and owned Vista & XP.

  • like it so much i got rid of windows 7

  • I Like Ubuntu Linux :D

  • @NewKeepSharing31 I Like too :D

  • Hi, is it possible to run games like BF3 or COD with this OS?

  • Can u use widows video player on it

  • I got this running on my Mac, inside VM Ware Fusion, along with Windows 7. and i have to say, this is way better than Windows 7.

  • lololololololol this is mediocre compared to windows

  • @TheConceptDude no its not, ubuntu is going to take over the world, windows is becoming obsolete

  • @bowsby666 Really? because even mac osx is better and thats sad...

  • I replaced my mac osx operating system with this, and it's waaaaaay better than lion, in my opinion.

  • Doesn't matter how cool it may look.. the problem is.. for customers its too much change moving to UNITY...I moved to Kubuntu and so did so many others....

They will have a new customer base (significantly reduced) with Ubuntu-unity interface..Its popularity is already decreasing...

  • for ex... how do you know if someone pinged you in gmail ? Go to left open the panel..double click on the mozilla button... find your gmail window...its a mess !!

  • LOL believe it or not, it is exactly the Mac OS. If the sidebar thing is at the bottom of the screen it will completely a mac Lion

  • Seriously doubt it. As a linux user and a fan of Ubuntu, could specify your argument? or be considered a simple minded Apple fanboy.

  • Can i use utorrent in this operating system? i've never used an os other than windows. the windows 8 looks like shit. how to move all programs from windows to this os? thanks

  • @ThePunisherFTW Yes, utorrent has many alternatives in Ubuntu, like Transmission, Deluge, and qBittorrent.

  • @InfinitelyGalactic , alright so between osx, windows7 and ubuntu what you nigga consider the best?

  • @iOSXthings , tnx playboi

  • @InfinitelyGalactic Transmission is beast! I use it on my OSX machine!

  • Ubuntu plus games like wow and gw, what kind of support does it have?

  • Why are people saying that it is a copy of mac -_- it is completely different and its own OS..... Just because things look similar doesn't mean that they are exactly the same :|.........

  • im just need help to change my password on the key acsess cuz i was removing the key acsessin ubuntu software center and it uninstalled ubuntu software center

  • will ubuntu always be free?

  • @vaughmj1 Yes! From Ubuntu website:

"Ubuntu is, and always will be, absolutely free."

  • Great for tablet, disgusting for desktop. Sorry, but constantly searching for stuff instead of heaving it ready is not my idea of ease of use.

  • @veggenskrikk

But searching is much better than clicking through menus.

  • @veggenskrikk You know you can place apps on the launcher, right?

  • @veggenskrikk thats why computer is SLOW AS SHIT

  • @veggenskrikk have you used it? didnt like it? its fuckin awesome i think

  • @veggenskrikk Agreed. Xfce all the way

  • same as mac OS

  • the-semuthitam.blogspot.com (free games and software crack)

  • I love Ubuntu just switched 2 days ago and enjoying it!

  • Headphones still don't work. Fail

  • I liked Ubuntu 11.10, but changing Compiz settings messed up Unity. I downloaded Xubuntu desktop, and like it better.

  • Hey everyone check out my blog For my review I just posted it also feel free to comment and give me your ideas thanks :D

    mattrstechtalk.blogspot.com

  • Well honestly speaking i like ubuntu and windows. But since the age of 6-7 i have been using windows and have tried ubuntu. The only problem with ubuntu for me is that i am not a geek and in case anything gets wrong i can not fix it in ubuntu.Dont thick i am a ubuntu hater because i like ubuntu but windows is a OS i like and works for me great.Even after the uefi lockdown of windows 8 i will be using windows as the only os becase it has more application support and i can understand it properly.

  • @eeshanmulye12 That is quite some valid points that you've got there. I do think you should move right along with Windows, since it's what you're used to.

But if you have interest in Linux or Ubuntu in general, which I believe since you've brought your comment to this video, I would encourage you to have a 2nd PC with some flavor of Linux, since it does pay off getting the grips of what I believe is the superior OS for desktop computing.

Written from my beloved laptop with Linux Ubuntu 11.10

  • I was going to use Windows Server 2008 to make a Minecraft server. I think I will just use Ubuntu instead. It looks a lot better.

  • Im about to install this next to my Windows 7. im excited(:

  • sucks bad for gaming

    windows 7 all the way!!!

  • Thank you so much for the video! I just downloaded Ubuntu and I'm loving it! I've been using it for 2 hours now and I have to say it's a very friendly OS. There's lot of stuff to learn, of course, but it's ok, challenge accepted! :D

  • I am switching from windows 8 to Ubuntu.

  • @animaldreams111 Same here bro, u on a netbook?

  • @supermaciej2 Not yet but I am getting one so that is what I am going to put it on. I am dual booting Windows 8 and Ubuntu on my laptop right now :D

  • @animaldreams111 Naaa man dont get a netbook they suck ass... lol what are the specs of your laptop?

  • @supermaciej2 lol ok

    Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) M100 2.00 GHz

Installed memory (RAM): 2.00 GB(1.75 GB useable)

    System type: 64-bit OS

    Hard drive has 148 GB

    Running Windows 7 ultimate now.

Anything else I forgot to put.

  • @animaldreams111 Nope thats good ;) Model Name: iMac Model Identifier: iMac12,1 Processor Name: Intel Core i5 Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 6 MB Memory: 4 GB

  • @supermaciej2 No problem and nice you use Mac lol

  • @animaldreams111 .. Don't. Ubuntu is just a fuckin copy of a mac.

  • @zachpack77 how

  • @zachpack77 lololololololol you wish.

  • Ty InfinitelyGalactic

tell me man bugs fixed ? (all crashed)

  • Linux Fail.

    Windows Fail.

    OS X Lion Win.

  • @Bram7thst You're a moron, OS X was based on Linux to begin with...

  • As far as Banshee goes, I DO miss RhythmBox. Glad they offer it for download from the Software Center.

  • @ChozoSR388 Though, only bug I find annoying is that Software Center HAS Emerald listed, but, it won't let you install...

  • Thank you so much for this , great review but i have a litlle problem. :/ I am greek so i really need to be able to type with greek letters (α,β,γ,δ,ε,ζ...etc). However i can't seem to change the language on ubuntu. I can change it to chinese for some reason though. All the menues and stuff are in greek but i can't type greek. Please help.

(in case you were wondering how i found the greek leters for this messege , im using windows XP right now)

  • in my opinion, panels were the shit. the full screen is nice but i hate that all the options are always at the top even if its not full screen. If they worked panels back in and changed the menus always at the top it would be the single greatest os ever

  • Ah the poor man's OSX.

  • @wonderwall135 It's better

  • @wonderwall135 ~CHECK OUT MONEYBAGS!!!~

  • @wonderwall135 - I prefer to think of it as "the wise man's weapon of choice". I like to collect those pieces of paper with numbers on them! :)

  • @DW45050 I really don't think I'm going to try Linux of any kind again. I find that Windows is fine for my needs. I have at least one program I have over $1800 tied up in and it won't run under Linux and I'm not giving it up just to have Ubuntu. Others have Linux and love it but for me I have decided to just stick with Windows.

  • can i use windows apps on linux???

  • @MatejVugrinecTV Yea,but youll have to use wine. Best off looking for a linux equiv. First time i installed Ubuntu i spent a while (cough) trying to run utorrent....only to find that transmission was installed as standard!

  • Is it faster than Windows?

  • @234blogger Ofcourse this only has 512 mb :)

  • @234blogger IMO and on machines that i multi boot on it starts faster, uses less memory and crashes are very rare, compared to win 7 ultimate 64 bit. There are pros and con to both OS's or windows to linux generly...DUEL boot all the way!

  • @234blogger - Only tortoise's are slower than windows.

  • @kingfisher64 *snails.

  • Just looks like Mac OSX

  • I've tried different distros of Linux over the past couple of years including Ubuntu. I've got to say that Ubuntu and all other distros SUCK. Just my opinion. I know there are those that luv Linux and thats fine but for me....I'm a confirmed Windows guy. Windows works fine for me, I'm happy with it and I guess thats that.

  • can't wait to put this on my laptop ^_^ bye bye windows

  • oh btw this os looks ducking awesome! I'm going to install it next to my windows.

  • Does anyone know what ubuntu version i should install for a Intel Core i7-2600 CPU, i want a 64 bit system, but there's so much choice i have no idea what i should do. By default the AMD64 version was downloaded, but is that the right one for a Intel CPU?

  • I have no fucking clue what this guy is talking about. I'll stick to windows

  • @pennjersey83 Just use virtualbox dude!

  • @pennjersey83 YOUR LOSS!

  • After much distro hopping over the past few months I feel strangely at home with Ubuntu 11.10. Unity feels like a very intuitive way of working to me and I wouldn't consider myself that much of a "noob." I can see myself sticking with it beyond 12.04. The only other distro that is catching my eye at the moment is elementary OS Luna. Their upcoming release looks promising.

  • @NewportCraig Same here. I started with Ubuntu, and did some distro hopping, but always came back to Ubuntu. Though same as you, elementary OS Luna is looking really nice, especially the speed of the system.

  • @JayQuinn1994 yes, steam works, but you have to install something called WINE to get it running. Also, you can run into issues with certain games. Just Google the name of the game you want to play + "WINE" to check that your games will work. Most do. I play a lot of TF2 on Steam in Ubuntu.

If you're a big PC gamer and like to play new releases though, best to stick with Windows or at least "install alongside Windows" when you install Ubuntu so you can use Windows when you want to play games.

  • is this good for gaming? so would steam work on this OS?

  • cool nerd video! (thats me!)

  • looks like a straight copy of Lion..

  • @M1MCKay It's been worked on longer then lion, and yes both do suck and I'm not a fan of windows, I just have used both and felt like shooting myself after using them.

  • @M1MCKay lion is a copy of this

  • jingle bells, windows smells, OS/2 ran away, BEOS dies, Haiku cries, LINUX ALL THE WAY!
