What's up with the "fake alligator" strap? Does Patek Philippe really incorporate fake "anything", including straps in their product? That is VERY surprising to me. This watch is the most desirable watch on the planet, but if the strap is fake, than why bother?

The reason for the fake alligator strap should be obvious! Most people these days are ecologically aware, and they don't want real fur or real hide from rare or endangered species. It might not be real alligator, but that doesn't mean it's plastic! You can do a lot with ordianry leather to create the appealing look of alligator.

Indeed, fake watches are of a worst taste than simple quartz watches!

If you cannot afford PP: see H. Moser for instance. The Mayu just costs a bit more than 8.000 and it's in gold. Or else: take a look at some second hand watches...
