It is John Lennon version with IAMAPHONEY &/OR MIKEYNL who finished the song... this is my favorite version, besides the original from just JOHN LENNON.
If you want an actual idea of what might of been look up Real Love and Free As A Bird. Those are the songs that the Beatles made for the anthology as a sort of reunion. It's like they had never been apart. fantastic stuff. But THIS sounds nothing like what the beatles would have done, aside from the raw audio of John singing Now And Then....
there are some beatles lyrics in this song, at the begining and at the very end (im not talking about the songs before now and then starts) can anybody tell me what songs are those?
Yes- a part at the end definitely sounds like Sun King. At the end (3:33), it sounds like it's the line "everybody's happy"... But, I can't place the other part you're talking about. The lyrics I hear are "love is you" (2:15) which would make me think it's taken from "Because" but the rest around it doesn't sound like it. But even at (2:38) it sounds like the "ahh" part of Because.
I think it's just brilliant how whoever made this put elements of Wings songs and Lennon solo stuff together to make it a Lennon Mccartney track. Especially the last bars that feature You Are Here and the Wings outtake Tragedy, both from 1973 are very clever.
I know it's not the real version. Initially I was lead to believe it was. Alas, I was wrong. However, it gives us an idea of "what could have been" and it's a pretty good instrumentation of the song.
The overdubs added in 1995 by the other surviving members has yet to surface; a circulating version of the demo with an apparent full band backing was, in fact, a hoax constructed with the original demo, sampled Beatles recordings, and parts played by non-Beatle musicians.
Beatlejuice... I read somewhere this ISN'T the Beatles, but a fans embellishment done over the Lennon demo "Now & Then".... not Ringo, George or Paul, but some unknown. According to what I've read, the Beatles "Now & Then" remains unreleased. What do YOU think?
it was rummored to be among the unreleased songs that was going to be available for Rock Band...this isnt teh beatles, that's for sure, the only beatles version (which is still unfinished) belongs to McCartney. However, I really like this
I don't think this is a bad effort at all. I'm quite moved by it actually. The ghost of John Lennon continues to haunt us, and he shows us he still had amazing material we haven't heard...
that's johns demo. this version (not official) could be on limewire. this IS NOT THE UNRELEASED VERSION. The ONLY NOW AND THEN VERSION WITH TEH BEATLES IS CONTAINED BY PAUL MCCARTNEY, WHO NEVER RELEASED IT OR HAS NEVER BEEN HACKED. IT MAY HAVE BEEN THROWN AWAY. although i heard mccartney and starr were finishing this AND MAYBE THE FINISHED VERSION WOULD BE IN THE BEATLES: ROCK BAND. i dont know, but i really hope that.
Apparently new technology can remix old Lennon songs, so they could take his voice or rhythm guitar, and edit it so that it went with the song. They already have George's voice and lead guitar work, and Ringo and Paul are still here, so who knows what could happen. A man can dream. Think of what three new songs (now and then, C o L, and All For Love) would be like. Their is also all of the songs from the "Rubber Soul Project", yet to be officially released. Come on Paul and Ringo, get working.
Also, apparently there is a song called "All For Love" that might be released when the Beatles launch on itunes. I have heard that Michael Jackson/Sony are the only hurdles to the launch. The song was written by George and Paul, apparently during the Anthology sessions, and has Ringo drumming. It was not released because their was no John, and although Beatles songs during the 60's did not always have all four members on them, sometime after John's death they decided that all new songs should.
By the way, this version of the song has nothing to do with the Beatles version, whoever did this took Lennon's bootlegged song and ruined it in my opinion. The real version should be so much better. I wonder if, if it comes out, whether it will have Carnival of Light as a B-side! That would be amazing. R.I.P John and George, great concert from Paul and Ringo, I am sure the other two were their in spirit, I know they were in heart.
They worked on it again, with new technology that they did not have in 95/96 and have apparently got rid of the background noise, added George's light work and have carefully added light drums from Ringo and singing and bass form Paul. I was worried when I heard about drums ruining the lightness of the song, but it came to me that Imagine had drums on it, and that is still a piano song, so if the drums are light, it should be amazing. Imagine all these years later, if they got another number 1!
Paul, George and Ringo worked on John's tapes during the anthology series, so that 1 could have Free as a Bird, 2 Real Love and 3 Now and Then or Grow Old With Me. George said no to Now and then because they couldn't get it to the same quality as the first to "new" songs, and they said no to Grow Old With Me because it had already been properly released. Itunes and Beatles Apple stopped arguing and want the Beatles on Itunes, and wanted a new single to coincide, so Paul and Ringo went for this.
Extremely well done. This improves on John's basic 'I don't want to lose you' demo, and gives us a real feel for how the song would have turned out had they worked on it. I think the song deserves Paul to put out his take on it. You've done a great job on the accompanying video too. Brilliant!
Right. Credit must be given to MikeyNL1038 who put up the first "Now and Then" video on YouTube. I downloaded the MP# which at the time was reportedly the real deal. As it turned out it was later revealed not to be. However, whoever did this did a fabulous job and it gives an idea of what might have been, you know?
I'm skeptical that Paul, George and Ringo made this version. It's fantastic, but I know they would have put some backing vocals of their own and would have done more with it. And I doubt they would have used lyrics from old Beatles songs. Correct me if I'm wrong.
to KingCTR: Sorry to dissapoint you but it's not. It was supposed to come out with Anthology as a 3rd Beatles Reunion song. But George vetoed because of the buzz (which you can still hear here) and because they would have to write new lyrics to it. This is the most complete version of the song YouTube has...not the beatles though....still amazing
Wow! A work of genius. You could show this to any uncultured teen and they would think it was some awesome new band. Can't get enough of this song man! Great job!!!

Agreed. I was disappointed by that 'new' Beatles song on Anthology 2 almost as much as 'Free as a Bird'(on Vol.1). Fuck the buzzing noise, that's a great tune and MUST be put out there....DAMNIT!
i do, and I there's a lot of videos with the demo. Most of them have the "buzz" in it though..look for the "cleaned up"version. I don't know how they did it, but they took all the buzz out...cheers!
They tried editing this one, but they could never get past a few technical issues and could never get a good mix. As a result, they canned it and put in other filler like "A Beginning."
They also were given the demo of "Grow Old With Me" from John's Milk & Honey album. I don't know why they shelved that idea, but I was glad they did. It's better off a Lennon tune, only.
They also worked on a McCartney/Harrison song called "All For Love," but I don't know what ever came of it.
A version of this song WAS due to go on Anthology 3 but George Harrison apparently vetoed it saying it wasn't good enough for release, but I gather it probably will be released in the near future.

At the end you can hear "everybody's laughing" repeated a few times, taken from Sun King.
