SLEEPER!!!!! one of the best female fronted britpop bands. ... its half the origin of SLEEPBLUR , along with BLUR , sleepblur :D , there u go folks, for those of u who never knew where sleepblur came from ~
i felt that aswell the amirecan bands had less to offer overall would explain why only shite bands have cacked america in the last 30 yeas no shame just utter bats arse taste in music.alot of US bands have not cracked uk either they being stupid over hyped and just plain wrong.Gwen stefani had oly 3 singles relesed over here efore she went solo and beyonce as never realyy had any sucess here unless you count UN
I agree. God knows how many negatives I'll get for saying: cracking tune, shame about the thr'penny's though: like a pair of aspirin on an ironing board...
thought I'd have a listen to sleeper again for the first time in ages. just hope her books are better than the tunes. still, beats the current crop of "indie" shit the new generation of kids have to listen to; but not by much I must say
One of the things I loved about Britpop was that singers didn't feel they had to put on an American accent when they sang. Ah, I love early 90's indie
Me too. It reminds me of high school and is so much better than stuff coming out these days. There was a scene back then and bands didn't sell out like they do today. Most of them stayed indie until the end. After 1997 music went way down hill in my opinion.
Thanks. I feel as if there were so many good British bands in the 90s in contrast to all the grunge band that came out of America. Not that some of them weren't good. I prefer the British groups the best though and I'm American.
yeah same here,, love the music from the uk but in saying that at the moment music has not done much for me loved the 70s and 90s,, cant beat some good old rock...nowdays there is way to many girl groups and boy bands out there. miss the band thing where guitar and bass and drums kicks butt....
I hear you on that one. I think that there are way too many processed groups today and they do not start organically like they use to. It is really a shame because I think that many kids these days really think that that is the way music is suppose to happen and so there is really no real music scene these days. I still think there is good pop music today, but I really like British music from back in the day.
omg...10 years ago i remember fancing the pants off of louise, after seeing this vid its happening all over again !! she's well fit, bring back the 90's :(
Also, please do not use the past tense about Louise. She is still one of the most attractive woman around, and her voice is the icing on the cake!!
Sleeper were one of the most under rated bands around, and that is good, because not everyone has heard of them, their music didn't get killed on radio, especially in Australia.
After the dust has settled, I realize now that Sleeper was the best of all the bands to come out of the britpop era. They are the only band that I listen to obsessively, essentially, like food or water. The best and only band that has ever existed since The Smiths! There I said it! As Jon Stewart once said, Louise Wener is the best songwriter to come out of Britain. Damn straight! Thank you Louise, wherever you are!
Fantastic song - i went to see them at Liverpool Royal Court with my then girlfriend - afterwards she bollocked me for looking at the singer too much! Erm - where am I supposed to look?
I'll never forget this song as long as I live. I recently dusted off The It Girl CD from my closet and was immediately sent back 10 years. I remember M2 (now known as MTV2) here in the U.S. played this video like 3 times a day back in 1996. This is just an amazing song...you can play it on repeat and it will never get old. Thank you so much for posting this video.
Sleeper never took off here in the US... why not has always puzzled me. I loved them. Louise Wener's good looks were a double edged sword. She won a lot of young male fans that way, but at the same time I think it unfairly prevented Sleeper from being taken seriously. They are more than "just a pop band." Their music wasn't groundbreaking, but it was exceptionally well composed. Even if it was similar to what a lot of other groups were doing it was still done exceptionally well.
I figured some people would be wondering about that. Jon Stewart was the guitarist for Sleeper. It was only after I uploaded the video that I remembered there is another more well known Jon Stewart these days...
@zombieeters And the guitarist was an ex. What about that?
