I'm going to stick with windows XP. I tried Linux 4 different time & still didn't like it. I'm not a fan of Windows Vista or Windows 7. I put those all on my PC. & wasn't use to it. but I'm so use to XP I use Mozilla Firefox but Viruses where not staying out so I made sure my internet Explorer was upgraded to 8 version & and all my up dates where installed & it seems to have kept Viruses out. because as long as IE 8 is installed it sures all the pins on the hard drive even when u use Firefox :)
I cant get radeon x200 linux to work I have some compatibillity issues this hard drive wont work with linux because its a earlier version seem than AMD ATI catalyst Dose not suport radeon x200 linux, has any body got it to work ?
There is no "9.10 Linux." There is, however, a 9.10 Ubuntu, which is a Linux distro. As for your question, it can be made to work; you may want to check out the opensource drivers if Catalyst does indeed not work with it.
As with any operating system. There is loads of games for linux. And no, not all are crap games. Flightgear is a good one, then there is Savage 2. For Quake 4 and Doom 3, there is a specific linux installer. And yes, windows games are playable with Linux using Wine, cedega and cross over office...
Hi. I have been trying to download more scenery from the FG site. I downloaded 3 sections of the US in the SanFransisco area. Then I extracted the files using 7-Zip. It says to place the extracted files into the Terrain folder. Which I have done.
C: - programe files - flightgear - data - scenery - Terrain, but nothings changed.
Inside the Terrain folder there is another folder (w130n30) inside of which are 2 more folders (w122-n37 & w123n37) inside which are many files. AHH Please help!!
@danielmpr No, Ben Bernanke's running the printing presses so he can buy these government subsidized monitors. In other words, he's a trillionaire, or the opposite of a trillionaire depending on how you wanna look at it.
Nice setup, I would like to have one too :-) I really wonder how many hours (and screams) you needed get the set up with the ATI cards under Linux done. I am already happy if my fglrx driver does not crash ;-)
Great Job! I am working on a 4 head similar system but having trouble with desktop. fglrx finds both adapters and activates them but X does not. Would you share your xorg.conf?
It isn't a linear performance increase for a number of factors (most of them appear to be over-synchronization within the different software layers involved.
The upcoming flightgear release (sometime around Christmas 2008) has greatly improved concurrency (but still not enough to push past 2 cores worth of load on a Quad Core).
Likewise the application itself doesn't provide enough load to keep a GPU fully active (memory or load).
I can sustain 25 fps with RV620 class hardware across 5 GPUs.
really slick and impressive setup: what's the average framerate you are getting with that setup? And have you found the graphics hardware or the CPU to be the limiting factor?
Personally I found FG to become increasingly CPU bound (most of the complex aircraft like A-10 & f-14b hardly run reasonably), that's why I am asking.
There is some interesting multi-threaed support that has come in that is actively being discussed on the mailing lists.
Unfortunately, right now, it looks like there is some sort of over-synchronization in either the driver or OSG or fg. In theory we should be able to scale with lots of parallel threads, but realistically it isn't happening. If these issues are resolved wherever then we can have some real fun :).
A lot of the higher end motherboards (AMD 790FX was used in this case) have 4 PCIe slots. You can stick 4 PCIe cards into those systems. I hear rumours of some dual chip cards driving 4 displays each (meaning 16 heads) floating around.
Real flight simulators (and real aircraft for that matter) have airframe. It all depends on what you are trying to simulate. (But I agree, you need to invest a lot of tweaking to get the airframe and the everything perfectly aligned (which I didn't do).
I am hoping that the flightgear developers can improve flightgear to have a single camera point with perpendicular cameras. Currently the shear model that is used assumes a flat display surface (and hence the project becomes funky at large left and right screen counts :).
It doesn't take over 4000 dollars to set this up at the most...

How are you able to play games on Lunix (Ubuntu) ?
YousefAB 2 years ago
They are specifically written for it. Also some Windows games work for it using Wine.

You can get a 6 monitor (each 19 inches) "command center" for $2000. Yeah, it is expensive but it isn't necessary to be a millionaire to have it.

a millionaire could afford 8 monitors of the same make and model.

With current drivers - "aticonfig --initial=dual-head --adapters=all -f" does the trick.

you shoulda gotten a one big lcd hdtv instead of 8 moniters, lol.
h635 2 years ago
big lcd hdtv = 1920x1080 = 2 073 600 pixels
8 monitors = 5120x2048 = 10 485 760 pixels
this assuming they're 1280x1024 monitors.

Sorry, something else.
The quad-core uses about 28 % (just over one core) and the GPUs are about 25% utilized.

How'd you connect 4 graphics cards to one motherboard? What mobo are u using? Really insane. I bet it'll look like an imax up close.
