  • Great movie, I watched this movie when it was first released and never forgot it!!!

  • Daughters of Ghana 1 Love

  • This film is fabulous...additionally the women involved in making it are as well...

I came across this clip searching for the name of Eartha Robinson's character in the film...

she also is a choreographer and danced the role of "Black Orchid" in the film "Secret Life of Plants"

  • @Righteouspowered Hey I just uploaded Eartha's perfomance in The Secret Life of Plants on my channel

  • This was my favorite movie of all time.

This fascinating African culture on the Gullah Island in Carolina was amazing. I wish it were on TV more often so more people could experience it.

  • just watched it today for the first time. Most powerful film, I've ever seen!

  • Thank you for your contributions to our HERstory...It is your work that has inspired me as a filmmaker!!

  • Your film taught me a lot about myself and Gullah language when I saw it back in the day. You have no idea of the impact that all of your work has had on me for years. Truly an inspiration knowing a sister HAS been doing her thing for decades. Love you, Ms. Dash!

  • i really enjoy this film professionally and personally. of all of the great depictions in this film what come across to me is the expression of time, AFrican American time-things happen when they are suppose to with a flow. Maybe I am too sentimental but this film is a great resting place for me and I use it often to regroup.

  • I have been in love with this movie for nearly fifteen years. I rented it so much that finally I just bought it.

  • I love this film.... a classic!

  • Definitely one of my favorites, a very beautiful movie.

  • This is one of the best movies ever made about African Americans. I can think of no other movie focusing on black women that is so rich and wonderful. I don't think anyone's understanding of black American culture, or American culture for that matter, is complete without seeing this movie.
