This haunting melody with such tragic lyrics, remind me of all the loved ones in my family, who died so young. I see them all again, when I hear this song.... Jane, Jimmy our Father John, our mother Lois and our infant brother Joseph-John.
This lovely song reminds me of all the loved ones in my family who died so young. I see them all again when I hear "Wildfire", Jane, Jimmy, our Father, our infant brother Joseph-John....
My Mustang's name was Wildfire I named him that well my son to. We loved him so much and I will ride him again on our favorite trail that he loved in the spring. Our ghost will both be going over the cover bridge and when we ran we ran. I never used a saddle I was part of him and he was part of me. Miss you WILDFIRE my baby.
One or two or maybe more have saved my life on the ranch. I lost my wife in 2009 to lung cancer. If it were not for my horse Smokeys Melody and my wifes old Mare Peggy, well lets just say they saved my life in more ways than one. The 40 year old mare had to be put down this year and that ol mare saved my wifes life out on the trail once
is it me or does he mess up in this version and say ''in a blizzard she was lost''...when it should be ''he'' .. it kinda bugs me...i prefer (and love) the original !
This song was one of my favorites from my early childhood. For some reason it has been playing over and over in my head for the past few weeks. I took a chance that I would find it on here. And I'm glad I did. It brought back memories of a simpler life when I grew up on a small farm with my horses. I would have done anything to protect my baby back then. I wish I still had him...Thank you for sharing this.
I've always liked this song. I played it for my husband, whose is younger and unfamiliar with it. I explained the story and he pointed out what a depressing song it was - everybody's dead or dying (except the hoot owl). How unromantic! I still like the song.
@mixedbreed19 I agree. I posted the song because I love this song. I didn't know there was people out there who enjoy slaughtering horses. It's sad, but I love this song because it brings back memories of my childhood. It's one of those songs that help take one's mind off the negative in the world, rather than making it another political issue. I posted it and got caught up in this political conversation, which is important, too. I guess, if we all love the horses, then speak out. :-)
@mixedbreed19 Music should be our great escape from the stresses and strains of life. But there are those among us who live to inject their political viewpoint into virtually every aspect of our lives---even our quiet, "down" times. Our happiness is their misery, our joy is their sorrow, our love is their hatred, our nirvana is their hell. May they rot in it.
I think it's important to remove the political biases here. A registered Democrat (but not an Obama supporter), it's important to realize that a democratic president has NOT weighed in here, not at all. And Rep Dan Burton, (R-Indiana) HAS weighed in with all due disgust. I may turn Republican yet!! And I might if there were more like him. The main point here is, let's set politics aside and attack the problem itself, rather than one another. And dontcha just LOVE my rose-colored glasses?
@cocobean101010 If thats true, then that is horrible. I love this song for what it means to me as I heard it as a child. There are many singers that have warped views on life but they put out great music. I'll have to read up on that. Do you know where the info can be found? That is sad he would do such a thing, but I can't even tell you what the singer looks like. Sadly, we have our share of idiots that get into hollywood and public office that should not be there. Thanks for the info.
@GreatestSingerEver01 There is a Senator Tyson Larson (Nebraska) and Rep. Sue Wallis(Wyoming) that are trying to get bills passed to have horses slaughtered so they can make a profit. They are tarnishing the Republican party. We need to have them kiced out of office. Spread the word so we can stop this tragedy from happening.
@cocobean101010 Please help me to spread the word about Senator Tyson Larson(Nebraska) and Rep. Sue Wallis(Wyoming) who are trying to pass bills to have horses slaughtered so they can make a profit. I will never vote Republican while these two are in office. We have to stand up against this.
@wickedglitter1 It is sad that anyone would want to slaughter horses, republican or not. It's clear that most democrats support the killing of the unborn babies through abortion. So, what I'm saying is... it really shouldn't be about republican or democrat, but it should about the individual running. Most people, who had proof, any documentation, within those two states, would never support such a horrible thing. Why are they killing these animals? Any specific reason?
@GreatestSingerEver01 The reason is greed. They want to slaughter horses so they can sell their meat to the highest bidder. Some countries outside of the U.S. consider horse meat a delicacy. Rep. Wallis has even admitted to starting a business so she can profit if this bill passes. The reason I mentioned that they were all Repubicans was because the people pushing these bills are Republican.
@GreatestSingerEver01 If these politicians that what to torture and slaughter horses were Democrat then I would have said that the Democrats need to be held accountable. I don't care what party these greedy bastards belong to, but since they are Republican I think we should make it clear that one way we can stop this from happening is to not vote Republican.
@GreatestSingerEver01 I think if other Republicans realize that their parties image is being damaged by certain greedy, selfish, sadistic animal abusers who identify as Repubican they will try to clean house to restore their dignity. if they don't then we hold them all accountable for enabling abuse.
@wickedglitter1 So, what you're saying, is that if all Americans know about this but do nothing, then all Americans should be held accountable. So, based on that, then all Americans should be accountable for the millions upon millions of unborn babies aborted. I wouldn't blame a group of people, but I would hold accountable the person committing the atrocity. We could go as far as blaming everyone in the world for everything. Blame the heartless individual & those who support them.
@GreatestSingerEver01 The Republican party needs to clean up its act on many isues before I vote for them. If your a Republican, and and I've offended you then good, I'm glad. I don't like how they treat people or animals, end of story. If you have isues about abortion then go bitch about it to someone else. My issue here is trying to stop this bill to slaughter horses for profit from passing. I've said nothing about abortion here.
@wickedglitter1 What you are telling me here, is that you think it's okay to abort babies, but you want to save a horse from being slaughtered & are blaming two people's sick nonsense on a whole group of people. Deary Mae, I'm not a republican nor a democrat because I'm intelligent enough to see how corrupt both parties are. I vote on the person for what they stand for, that's if they have a backbone to do whats right by America & every living thing. While you're bitchin'...support all life!
@GreatestSingerEver01 Once again I never said anything about abortion because the issue here is about the bills that Rep. Sue Wallis (Wyoming) and Sen. Tyson Larson (Nebraska) are pushing to have horses slaughtered so they can profit. If you want to debate the abortion issue perhaps you should contact Rep. Sue Wallis and tell her how you feel. She recently was on Rachel Maddow's show talking about how she supports abortion and how she herself had one.
@wickedglitter1 I do understand your love for horses. They are but one of God's beautiful creations. Why don't you make up some political videos regarding Sue Wallis & Sen Tyson using some of their comments. Each of us could contact them directly, but in that process, getting the word out through videos on Youtube, Facebook, Myspace & so forth would reach many. If youll send me links to any of their comments regarding this matter, I will link it to this video. I support all life.
@GreatestSingerEver01 Those are all really good suggestions. My computer skills aren't the best, but I communicate with alot of people on twitter who are more savvy about tech. than me. Do you mind if I ask my followers to check out your comments here, and we can brainstorm about this. Many of my followers are animal lovers, and they might want to help. Are you on twitter? I would like to follow you if you are. My twitter name is the same @WickedGlitter1.
@GreatestSingerEver01 Both Larson @TysonLarson and Sue Wallis are on twitter. If you go to their twitter page you'll see some of the comments they have made concerning slaughtering horses. If you google both of them you'll learn how greedy these two are. Both of them are in the businesses of using horses for profit. Now they want to be slaughter their companions after they are done running them into the ground. Its just disgusting.

I see our horse racing in the wind. This is one of my all time favorite songs, beginning to end. Not too complex, emotive, perfect for this American.

If not, then it should be. It's a nice image, a girl riding off on her horse, even if she is dying, riding off into that last sunset.

I despise animal ownership and see it only as slavery, however, when this little girl goes crying for her horse in the blizzard I'm feeling it.
