You should really work at your german. You are singing great but I sometimes had to laugh (1:02 Des Verräters Feindlich lauschen). If you arent able to sing an ä than sing an e but not an a!!!!!
Great job. The diction is a little rough, but for a young singer the way the german is constructed in this piece it is easy to mess up. With continued raining you will be wonderful.
@maladiman- Schubert actually composed a couple pieces named Standchien. youare probably more familiar with his other one (Horch, horch! die Lerch) which is the less popular, but still wonderful Standchien.
transat1anticism, you should look into a higher register for this piece. but i commend you for trying to perfect your craft and hopefully taking this as mere constructive criticism. it's part of being an artist.
you should look into the higher key for this song...its really low in your voice in this key. and a couple of german diction classes would help too :-P keep up the good work.
this kid is terrible im 15 years old and im going to post a video of me singing this soon its alot better his german is terrible and his lower register is basically inaudible eeesh! and hes acting like he's al that "i will be singing standchen composed by shubert the only good part is the piano other wise he's really quite terrible
Beautiful piano playing! just magnificant! I have heard this serenad played several times on piano and I can say that this the best that I have ever heard it. Most pianists like to play Standchen very choppy. They sometimes forget that it is a serenad! Simply beautiful playing. So moving. The tenor did well, but should work on his German pronuncations. but has a very clear ,pure tone. But at times you seem shaky and nervous. something to work on. again beutiful piano playing. Keep it up!
I'd like to remind the critics (most of whom are well-meaning, thank you!) not to be too harsh -- the tenor here is only SEVENTEEN years old! Imagine what he may be like after a few more years of training!
No lecture on diction, just some comments. The arm is distracting; probably a subconscious thing, you do it when practicing w/o realizing. Kind of like you are coaching yourself along. A soprano friend of mine did same thing.Very nice, clear tenor sound. Bet you have really easy top notes. Think higher bel canto parts, Donizetti, Bellini, Mozart too. What is hard for others (me) would be so much easier for u. Bet these parts would really suit your voice. Keep singing.
I LOVE this song! Your characteristically beautiful voice does it justice. However, there are a few things you can do to make it really pop. First off...review the German diction. The most distracting thing is the lack of a proper umlaut on works like "gluck." Remember to form [u] and say [i]. Also...remember John Wustman's advice on the unaccented "er" sound in "lieder,"
Wow, You have such an incredibly light voice. Its interesting to hear this song sung like that. I just sang it for a jury but i have a lyric bass voice(much heavier and dramatic), its much different. but i like it. It might suit your voice better to put it up a whole tone or higher. But I enjoy it, you'll have an easy high C or D if you don't already.
I sang this last weekend for a competition in LA... um.. as a german, can i just tell you: WORK ON YOUR GERMAN!!!!! The vowels are horrible and you have completely wrong emphasis. Please.. your technique has a lot of potential but you're lack of diction quality detracts and put your dang arm down... you look like you have NO idea what the song is about. (hint:: LONGING!!!). better luck next time
I don't know why young singers sing this. It is actually quite hard, and rarely flattering to the developing voice.

Your voice has a beautiful timbre!
I think you could have sung this in a higher key. Also, with more confidence! Good job, nevertheless.

German Diction is horrible.
for example-
"durch"...u said "dew"...ummm...r?...ich-laut?
for as horrible as the diction is..I was surprised you almost sang all the notes correctly..
p.s....couldn't swallowing..and making the kermit sound..
