@BrainwaveGaming its true the challenger has a better survivability record compared to the abrams. But there are more abrams than challengers. 9000 vs 400. Both tanks also are built out of the same armor, with similar guns, in the end, it just comes down to the crew and how they perform

T90A can stand against SABOTS and Tandem HEATs. The Kontakt 5 reduce the damage of SABOTs and has tandem ERA. Russian T72 was hitten 7 times by RPG7 in Chechnya and they had only few scratches.Dont compare export with real russian tanks.And T72 export or not is the best tank of older generation.
@ShadowVampireDragon Not really, they are equally matched. If the tanks both use DU rounds its one shot on both and they have matched technology capabilities. The T-90 as a anti-rocket system which is a up for T-90.
@jamespuckett1 Sorry pal, the T90 doesn't match the technology of an M1A2. The Abrams 120mm smooth bore cannon has a much greater range also. And speaking of DU, M1's have survived direct hits from each other. No T90 is gonna withstand a direct hit of DU fired from an M1A2 Abrams.
@supraman1953 What if the T-90 decided to fire a Russian-made DU round at a abrams. Since the T-90 is alot faster then the Abrams I can clearly see who would win the battle here.
@jamespuckett1 I'm honestly not sure of the differences in U.S. and Russian DU, if any. The Abrams main gun, which is actually German, has a greater range and muzzle velocity than the T90 so it could hit the T90 before it was in danger of the T90's gun. I guess alot of factors could decide the outcome. Having a good crew is important because both tanks are useless in untrained hands.
Difference is ammunition, not gun. T-90 use shorter penetrators due to autoloader limitations inherited from T-72. BM-42M penetratior is ~4.9kg, and has init speed of 1750m/s, M829A3 penetrator is bit slower, 1555m/s, but over 7kg heavy. More kinetic energy - more punch. Oh, and new Russians rounds use tungsten, not DU.
T-90M seem to have new loading mechanism, so things should even up a bit, once tank and new ammunition enters production.
@kireta21 I don't disagree with you totally but the guns do make some difference. The T90 has a 125mm rifled gun. The Abrams has a 120mm smooth bore. The rifling makes for accuracy but takes away from velocity. The smooth bore delivers a huge amount of velocity. The computer system takes care of the accuracy. Thats why the Abrams has a pretty big range advantage. But i agree with you that ammo makes a big difference.

125 mm 2A46 is smoothbore as well. The only modern tank with rifled gun is Challenger 2.
