I better see a british athlete winning the gold medal , rather than seeing a french athlete crowned as world champion , the french are too arrogant , i cant stand them , plus their commentators , from start to finish , they just talk on their athletes !!! wtf is that ??
Yeh, well done Chris Hoy. Ok, he's Scottish, hell so am I,but I live in England and Chris' training was mainly done in England and other places. It's great to be Scottish but let's not crawl up our own arse on this one. He represented Britain in the Worlds and Olypics and although a product of Scotland, belongs to everyone. That's why he'e won this. The end.
well done chris hoy!!! sports personality of the year 2008, well deserved, three medals at one olympics, five over all!!! i was made in england??? top olympian and sports personality of the year made in SCOTLAND!!!!!!!!!!!
i was not meaning it in a bad way, just thought the choice of song was a bit weird for the british team. it has been known for some english people to think they are britain n no other countries exsist, not that i am accusing you of that.
Thanks! But don't forget that a large proportion of Chris Hoy's votes would of come from 'English' peeps as they make up the bulk of the U.K population. So most 'English' people find the Scottish, Irish, Welsh thing totaly irrellevant and vote on merit only!
(Like Rebecca had said), i was just hoping that a 2008 Olympian would win the award regardless of specific nationality. It's just a shame that Rebecca didn't win IMO.
here's me expecting to be all gutted again, watching the fu*king aussies, beating us again. (ignoring the americans and chinese coz they've got half the bloody world!!)but no.. up rose the british.. with sheffield steel and scottish.. bikes, and for once in my life i was proud of a sweaty.. who is not only an amazing athlete who has accomplished nothing a brit has ever done, but a great bloke!! a credit..they all deserve the S.P.O.T.Y, even the scotts!
Well it's a bit of a shit song, but Judas Priest's "British Steel" would work, alternatively something neutral...but British...like some Queen..."we are the champions" being a reasonable choice.
I did entertain the idea of using ''we are the champions'' or ''gold'' by Spandau Ballet even Carly Simon's 007 tune ''nobody does it better.'' In the end i thought seeming as others were starting to use them they were becoming a bit obvious. Hence the reason why i plumped for Elton John, + it's still a top tune.
Why have a song about England when clearly Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were all represented in Olympics and won medals for Team GB in Beijing.
Okaaay. Because if Elton had of sung a song called ''I was made in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales'' it wouldn't of sounded as catchy would it?
True! But if a blatantly Scottish, Welsh or Irish song had been used in the "tribute" I'm sure someone would have objected. I think the point is that there are probably better songs to choose that are more universally reflective.
