Actually they don't use drugs, and they don't say it's for creativity. They are avid believers in the Beat subculture which includes experimental drug use but by the time this interview took place kim gordan may have been a heroin addict(ive never seen like an interview where she discussed it or not but she looks like she is) but the rest of the band had stopped doing drugs except for psychadelics while recording daydream nation. but after that they stopped experimenting.

I'm not aware of any of the band ever having used hard drugs, although I'm sure they sampled their share of ye psychedelics back in their formative years. That said, Kim & Lee always looked a bit like they had a hard paper round, with Thurston & Steve the baby faces of the band. Kim looks great these days though, she's the grand dame!

l disagree with your comment, but in a positive light. Look at other females in her shoes, i.e.: Popular female music artists. She isn't a dime-a-dozen pop vocalist like most other female artists in a critical spotlight. She isn't singing about kissing a girl and liking it. Her songs don't rely solely on people buying ring tones of her songs. I think it's perfectly okay to recognize her as a female musician considering most POPULAR female musicians we hear about today are borderline talentless.
