  • I just wrote that Glen campbell's Wichita makes me want to cry......just played this version and I cried.

  • Bob Marley once said Dennis Brown was his favorite vocalist.

  • This is luscious. I have never heard of him before. I will look for his work now! Thanks for this wonderful posting! Hugs, Gitl

  • This is one of the best renditions of this song that I've ever heard. It's sort of haunting. I have listened to it eight times already...beautiful! Reminds me of Al green's "Simply Beautiful."

  • I really like The Meters cover of this song...

  • Have you seen "reggaelinx website" it is like YouTube for reggae videos. It is so much easier to find and play reggae videos.

  • Incredible version! My ear can targets a great version of any song within the first five notes or beats, and this is a GREAT RENDITION. Having lived nearly 50 years as a native of Georgia, USA, I've heard Glen Campbell sing this live, Sammy Davis Jr., and James Taylor's recordings. I send gratitude to whomever added Dennis Brown's version to my appreciation list. Many thanks and blessings to you.

  • Seriously cannot stop playing this...goosebumps every time!

  • songs sounds even better when I'm high. beautiful. bingd tears to my eyes.

  • Not bad, good voice, but Glen's original is still the best and definitive voice!

  • how high was he when he made this?

  • @MsL0vie

Not too high I hope, he was only 15 :)

  • @dylan240269 -oh ok. hahahaaaa

  • thanks for this beautiful video

  • nice viedo. keep music alive

  • Smooth Blues, Great Job Man.

  • I have the "dennis brown & friends" dvd. fell in love with his version, & play it countless times.

didn't know it was an american song until recently. lovely.

  • whoa this is wicked, ive seen dennis live, never knew he sung this......

  • This is a kick ass version

  • Ouhh! I like that type of music and that voice also. Chill

  • Brilliant! Maybe better than REM's cover. But this is a slightly different and spellbinding take.

  • this version desserves a special" Wichita lineman" rendition Award 4 sure!....The best in sensuality ever...

  • The original by Glen is and always the great, but this is incredible. An outstanding and reverent version worthy of the sentiments the song means to convey. Just an outstanding version. Amazing!

  • nice

  • He gets it.

  • I love Dennis Brown, he's the greatest reggae artist in my eyes. But i never knew he'd covered this track until someone posted a link on the Glen Campbell version, well done to you sir!

This is just epic, really beautiful music......right now, I feel a long, long way away from the artificial lighting and air con of my office.......

    Repeat track? I think so.........

  • @82jules82 the greatest reggae artist is quite a heavy statement, i personally still like marley and peter tosh better but to each his own....btw, if you haven't checked out willie hutch's version of this song you should...it's a great rendition as well

  • jimmy webbs tune, any way its sung...beautiful!

  • This is pretty damn good.

  • nice version

  • Glen Campbell would be yr ultimate antithesis, well done.

  • Comment removed

  • This is so beautiful ..he definatley has made it his own I love it ..keep playing over again thanks ...

  • very good version thanks for posting

my all time favorite version is dwight yokam's

  • Glen's the best version, but this is good as well in it's own way.

  • this is fucked. really fucked. Soul singing licks balls and wipes ass.

One man's opinion feel free to disagree.

  • @Souplesse000 No thanks.

  • smooth and laid back! great work!

  • Great Rendition. One of the greatest songs ever, done by a smooth crooner. Smooth man.

  • great version!!! love this!!! i'm definitely a new fan of this guy!

  • There are some songs that are impossible to break, and this one by Jimmy Webb is one of those songs. It became Glenn Campbell's signature more than forty years ago. Yet, it's been covered by many artists who all bring something to the table in a positive and characteristic way. This is a great version.

  • Does anybody know what album this is from?

Or is it a b side?

  • thanks CHEWDwivTHEinCrowd... I discovered this by accident exactly a year ago.. and sent it out to many people ... and look at the difference a year makes - they sent it on, and so on, and so on, and so on .. THANKS TO YOU FOR POSTING!!! Very haunting and beautiful -- love that Glen Campbell actually posted a comment ... must have meant a lot to you. Thanks MUSIC LOVER!!

  • @Kelly48811 Got your message ChewD... was surprised to see you were a girl as well... I do not know where you ever found this... but you know how you feel like you discovered it all over again?? That's how I felt last summer ... and I sent it out again ... and LOOK AT ALL THE COMMENTS FROM THE LAST FEW MONTHS... somebody sent it out again... and oh my God this rendition -- I believe I have probably added 250 hits just myself as I just listen to it if I'm bored, sad, happy, whatever..eml me!

  • As a big Glen Campbell fan, let me say, this version is OK and thanks for posting it!

  • jah rasta fari he don steal he don gamble talk about the man dennis brown seen

  • This is the best version of this song. I've always loved Dennis' Version - even though I didn't know there were so many covers but after listening to them this is still the best.

  • this is great

  • Beautiful, beautiful 'cover' of this song!!! Love the voice! Sad to only now, discover this wonderful singer ..... RIP..........But imagine the joy he's giving the angels, with his sweet voice ...... Actually think this is a much better and much more honest redition of the song ........ Love this!!!

  • This is so lovely. I can't stop listening. Thank you for posting it. What a voice.

  • Beautiful version from Mr Brown

  • for those who don't know this artist,he is a jamaican born singer, and musician.who started making records at 13yrs old. he was in his mid teens when he recorded this cover tune. he is the greatest male vocalist the island of jamaica has ever produced!! sure, bob marley is biggest star, but dennis brown could sing anything! bob marley could'nt have covered this tune and did it justice!

  • Dennis' cover is so damn beautiful... it pays homage to this song far better than anyone else has ever done. This is is a "stay in bed rainy day and purposely make love until all

definition fades away" take on this classic. It belongs in the Reggae realm as well as

Country. Great music defies all limits and descriptions, as do the artists that perform it.

For all you haters out there who feel like you hafta "clarify and classify", do the world a huge favor- reduce your carbon footprint- DIE.

  • Unitl today I'd never heard Dennis Brown, but I'm sure glad I found this one. Just beautiful.

  • Pretty cool rendition; one I've never heard before. I actually prefer the Wade Hayes country cover to even the Glen Campbell original. REM's cover is pretty good, and James Taylor did the song justice more recently, too. Really a great song that has been well-done by a wide variety of artists over several eras, showing just how lasting a good tune with great lyrics really can be.

  • @thehomefront The great thing about the internet is that anyone and everyone can be a dickhead in the safety of anonymity fueled by a large audience.

  • @KaiserMachead Sad but true- it couldn't have been said better. Thank you! DZL<3

  • @KaiserMachead

Rarely do I take the time to give my two cents, but bravo-well said...

Might even have to save your qoute and use....Surely there are more comments to come where your reply simply says it all....Thanks for the smirk & smile this morning :)

  • Nice n smooth took his time. I also like Glenn Campbells version too but this hits the soul.

  • my cousin turned me on to this CLASSIC back in late 80 s /early 90 s. i finally found his cd. this is simply BREATHTAKING!!!!!!!

  • my cousin turned me on to this classic back in the late 80 s early nineties. i finally found his cd. simply breathtaking!!!!

  • This version is very nice. Although my all time favorite is an instrumental by Kool and the Gang, Live at the Sex Machine....a 7 minute version...it's HOT!!!

  • Wow!!! I love so many versions of this song especially Glenn Cambell's version but this one by Dennis Brown and the version by the Dells are what should be considered a Soul Masterpiece. This is one of those songs where you think of everything good in the world. Why isn't this on itunes...Good one CHEWDwivTHEinCrown...

  • It's a good version, a really good version. But wouldn't james webb, the actual writer be the one that was do most of, if not all of the credit? for any version?

  • Haven't heard this before. Just Fantastic...what a voice! Many thanks for Posting. About thirty years ago I had a live album by Kool and the Gang, recorded very early in their career in a club in New York. Their take on this track was just instrumental and more on the jazzy side of soul but....wow, also at least as good as the original recording. Like Denis Brown, I haven't heard ot for so long!

  • love this song, what a great version

  • oh nice.. does it well...im lovin this..

  • I only wonder... If George Jones sang 3 little birds. How many would love it ?

This is my message to you.

  • I like it thanks for sharing this awesome version.

  • wow!, thanks for sharing this, I love reggae and glen campbell both, what a great combination.

  • I am a big fan of Dennis Brown but never knew he did a version of this song! Thanks!

  • Wow.. This Redintion of "Wichita Lineman" is Fantastic! I am really feeling it! Thanks so much for sharing!

  • I have never heard of Dennis Brown either - but I'm so glad that I have now! What a fantastic voice - love this version too.

  • I too thank you for the post! XOXO (What blaine202020 and other + comments like his said), plus,... this version moves me to tears!

  • Nice! Thanks!

  • Thanks for posting this. i grew up listening to dennis brown. I always loved his music, with his smooth silky voice, but I don't recall hearing this tune. Now you got me looking for more dennis brown on ytube.

  • this is an AWESOME version of this awesome old tune...PLEASE give a listen

  • man there is some real intricate notes and augments going on in this tune,, great version,, best i've heard... thanks for posting

  • I haven't heard from Dennis Brown in a long time.the 80s..I'm not at all suprised to hear a reggae star tackle Witchita Lineman..60s-70spop-country style always lent itself well to Reggae..EXCELLENT

  • Wow what a voice, I could surf on that harmonic.

Its one of those songs where there's only ever going to be one person remembered for it aka Glen Campbell but great cover.

  • @Blaine202020 - Dennis Brown is for me Reggae's King. He has fabulous vocals. Singing from a little boy. This song was done when he was in his teens. Listen to his other songs. He was a lover's rock man but does truths and rights music too. Big up DBrown. R.I.P. my artiste. Its been over 10 years now

  • An underrated D. Brown classic

  • I'm so glad that I gave this a listen. Lovely rendition.

  • i never heard of this guy! i clicked it on by chance. now i'ts my favorite version. listened to it 20 times or more already. great post. great find.

  • I hate this new way you tube is dispalying everything, it's much more difficult to reply to specific comments. This is to BLAINE202020 (previous question was addressed to ontoitinThere) THANKS BLAINE .. i'm aware from my comments that i've introduced Dennis's track to many, and despite all probs with this tube, it kinda makes it worthwhile when i'm able to share a beautiful track. I'm not here to make money,, just a music lover. So TY again for your comment.

  • @CHEWDwivTHEinCrowd EXCELLLLLLLLLENT OK?

  • @blaine202020 Great version. Never better than the original but certainly just as good. Thanks for posting.

  • @blaine202020 you never heard of Dennis Brown??? where you been? lol

Listen to his other stuff. he's a legend!

  • CHEWDwivTHEinCrowd,You really are Spot-On to describe this beautiful rendition as the Ultimate Version,I think Dennis was still a teenager when he cut this amazing track!

    Great Post!

  • Blushing now as that's quite a compliment coming from YOU! THANK YOU x

  • That is pretty sweet.

  • Thank you for posting...very much.

  • nice version very nice

  • Glen Campbell is the Wichita Lineman! His voice and cowboy image fit the song Jimmy Webb wrote and that's why he chose Glen. I don't think that was unfair. I do however really enjoy Dennis Brown's version and it is definitely a great rendition. Thanks for posting it!

  • @OntoitinThere

DB is a wonderful singer. But he doesn't sound like he's ever been near Wichita. I'd second the sentiments of "Ontoitin There", regarding this particular song.

Of course, it is such a wonderful melody, almost any respectful rendition will sound good. I enjoy Glen C's (of course), and Jim Webb's own recorded versions. Interestingly, Cassandra Wilson does a nice rendition. I like very much Johnny A's instrumental take on it, too.

  • I love his singing! Thank you for this post.

  • you are very welcome, i'm happy you enjoyed.

  • I didn't expect this to be so good...excellent version of a classic

  • This is a wickedly cool version of that old classic! Thanks for posting!

  • You are very welcome!

  • Crazy version, cant believe Ive never heard this...

  • Well you are sharing now!

  • awesome singing, luvvit!

  • Glad you liked it!

  • When I clicked here, I was "...oh another crappy version"...WRONG!...the mellowness brings a new quality to a great song...4+/5

  • "I really feel this is the most endearing interpretation of my song. Many thanks to Dennis!" -Glenn Campbell

  • Thank you very much for this - it IS terrific! I'm not a reggae fan, but this is not reggae. It's too bad Dennis Brown did not get credit for this fabulous cover. Thanks again for posting it, I love it.

  • You are most welcome, glad you like it!

  • is he dennis brown?

  • yah mon! he did it justice.

  • yessssssssssss he did!

  • Dennis Brown is one of the world's most underrated singers of his generation. If he were American he would have certainly received the credit he was really due. RIP Dennis Brown, Big Up Yourself Anyweh Yu Deh!!!

  • BIG TUNE big up the the crown prince of reggae!

  • I have heard 'em all! And this version is right up there, if not supreme. Sublime melody and rhythm. Captures the mood perfectly...the songwriter would be proud.

  • Sammy Davis, second best.

  • Awesome cover.

  • RIP Dennis Brown.

  • agree with sprcub...amazing version by a great musician...hafta check out more...

  • well I have to say I am in agreement with 02bliss as glenn is one of the best but I quite like this version and can you imagine I have never heard of denis brown until now hmmm go figure i guess ill have to check him out

  • hold on a minute.... one of my all time favourite ever singers singing one of my all time favourite ever songs... and i never knew this version even existed! thank you so much :)

  • Really good version, like it.

  • Lovely version. Just a wonderful song...period.

  • wow.. like others what I expected was certainly not what I got.. sweet version

  • I saw him do this song live at the old Sumbraro Club back in 1972. did not know that he did do a recording of it too.

  • Love the song (well in the last 10 years..) and love the superb version here. Too cool

  • I love both versions. This is played with a smooth style that the song can adapt to. It's great! Thanks for the enlightenment!

I've heard that Isaac Hayes has a version of,..... damn. I forgot what song it was. Hold on,.....Walk On By. I haven't found it yet.

  • a beautiful version of one of my all-time favs!

  • I was prepared to hate yet another cover version of what I regard as a timeless masterpiece. But I really like this version. Really really like it. It succeeds because it doesn't try to copy the original. It's a totally different genre paying respect to the original. Very mellow. Having said that, Glen still owns this one. Cheers!

  • Thanks to Glen Campbell and to you or I would never have known about Dennis Brown. WOW!!

Can't get this out of my head! The Ultimate, for sure.

  • Great version.

This song is just wonderful. Think I'll steal this version for my band!

  • Oooh, this is nice. Thanks for posting. I like the better known Campbell version too, as well as the Urge Overkill version, but this is very nice indeed. Just shows how many ways a song can be handled.

  • how smooth is this...???!!!

  • Reggae's answer to Isaac Hayes ala "By the time I get to Phoenix"

  • Beautiful voice, beautiful cover.

    Thanks.

  • Simply awesome! Glad to see someone else as ecclectic as myself with tastes of such diversity in music!

  • Bitchen version...!!!

    Thanx for posting this :)

  • Thanks for your excellent comment, .. my thoughts entirely!

  • The vocal acrobatics are distracting but there's no question that this is a cover worthy of posting.

    A few beers, a summer's evening...

  • My band just worked up a version of this tune. This will be my reference from now on, man. Thank you!

  • You're very welcome, and good luck with the band. I've got problem with my audio drivers/device so rgt now unable to listen, BUT would love to hear your version, hope's you'll send it to me.

  • Thanks for such an excellent comment, when I manage to sort my audio device etc i'll immediately check your channel and artists you mention. Thanks again.

  • This is very nice.

  • Thank you for commenting & glad you liked it.

  • Holy shit, this cover is amazing! I can't stop listening to it. Only heard the Glenn Cambell version before. But this is fucking magical. 5 / 5

  • That's exactly how it first hit me, and has remained exactly the same ever since .. when i read great comment like yours, soooo glad I took the time to share it. Thank you for your brilliant comment. When I've got more time and fixed audio on my puter i'll check your channel.

  • Unaware that he passed, guess I should have done my homework & completely read your writeup. So in retrospect what I thought would be a lighthearted comment now appears to be in poor taste. Sorry 'bout that & no disrespect intended. Would also mention that I have an affinity for people with dreadlocks as it oft seems an indication of a free, open-minded spirit (people I like to associate with). I'm sure Dennis was a special person so thanks for making us all aware of his legacy.

  • Sadly, the dreadlocks would have to go if you were to be an actual lineman - too much risk for electrocution!

  • Sadly Dennis died in 1999, but this rasta with such beautiful locks left us the gift of his spirit & exceptionally beautiful voice when he made the ultimate version of this great song, don't you think? If not, why the comment?

  • Yeah! The Witchita ganja, baby! Hahaha...

  • Fricken awesome, it is almost haunting...

  • Love this so much.

Exceptional version of a classic, totally worthy.

    In my opinion.

  • Thank you, i'm glad you enjoyed.

  • See there, thought I'd hate this version but gotta say... not bad. Prefer Glen's and even James Taylors but this was well done, classy for this genre.

  • Good version. I have been listening to almost every version I could find. I like the REM version, the original, the James Taylor version and of course this one.

  • seen dread Ire rasta

  • Yes I was sooooooo lucky to see him live too .. If ever you find a video of him performing this beautiful track please let me know.

  • I'm STILL coming back to this version. I now think it's the best version I've heard. Dennis had such a fantastic, soulful, seductive voice. He could so easily have done this as a reggae cover, but I'm glad he didn't.

  • Absolutely agree with you ... No matter how many times I listen to this I still love it & just don't see how he could have improved on gift he gave us, to my ears it's perfection.

  • I'm strickly a country music fan, but this is really good. Love this version. Good stuff...

  • Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed.

  • The more I listen, the more I like it. He sings like he knows what he's singing about. I guess it's hard to screw up a Jimmy Webb tune, but this guy could sing anybody's stuff. Really good... Reeeeeally good........

  • Excellent cover!

  • Thank- you.

  • I wasn't sure how I would react to this but he just glides all over the song...excellent vocals and instrumentation

  • Classic track.... Classic artist.

  • wow, cool. i love the loungy organ, the panning on the guitar solo, the out-tro, and such great vocal tone. great stuff.

  • Keep comin' back to this... great cover, great voice, great groove...

  • This cover won't replace the original (Glen's version) but it does have a special quality that makes it quite charming.

What it does for me is to bring out qualities of the song that are worth emphasizng.

It would be intersting to have a concert where different performers could each perfom their own version of the song.

But then there is YouTube which makes it possible to do it at home!

    Thanks for posting this.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed, and you hit on a great idea, I think if you read my comments, that's kind of what's been goin on here. I love Dennis's version, it never fails to reach me deep, even if for some reason youtube seemed to have slowed it down a little zzzzz perhaps some with power prefers glens version lol, good luck to 'em, would be boring world if we were all like clones, the same. ANNOYIN THEYV SLOWED THIS DOWN, BUT WHAT CAN I DO, ANYONE WITH IDEAS OF A REMEDY PLSE LET ME KNOW, its unkind.

  • Love Jimmy Webb's own version on his Ten Easy Pieces album, but Brown's is just as great !

  • excellent post. Dennis Brown was a legend . . still is!

  • He had a beautiful voice & depth of feeling he shared with us, in all his songs, thanks, sweetie.

  • nice nice nice post

  • Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it
