@Superchickenman159 That an east German falling from one of houses close to the border into the west part...later those windows were boarded up and the wall of the house was basically a part of the wall itself. At 1:20 you see one of the few successful escape tunnels. Over the years many people manged to flee successfull (some had really crazy methods), but even more died or ended up in prison for years.

However, his family in Saxony got it in the neck by the Stasi. Well the communists were never exactly tolerant of minorities so I fail to see how them hating gays effects it. They are also one of North Korea's major trade partners, and sell technology and weaponry to each other. But Iran will never be communist, they hate religion.

@mef83 Actually, his defection was purely spontaneous. A nearby camera and reporter told him that once the wire was up, he was trapped. He jumped and made it to freedom. However, his family in Saxony got it in the neck by the Stasi. Then when the Wall fell and Germany reunited, he went back home and his family had branded him a traitor, coward, and other horrible names. he went back West with a humiliated and broken heart-that's why he committed suicide.

Jersualem has been fought over for centuries.
Many cities have been utterly wiped off the face of the Earth; like Tenochtitlan, or Carthage.
None has ever shown the rise and fall of Empires such as Berlin in the 20th century though.

I agree, Jerusalem is something above any other.
But can you even imagine to wake up one morning in your city, come out to buy papers and find a big wall which will next 28 years separate you from your friends, family, things that you like....and destroy your life. How many destinies have been destroied that way?
I know there is a many cities whose suffered, but this wall made Berlin for a symbol of human pain and agony.
That s why i said Berlin is the key witness of 20th century.

Well the communists were never exactly tolerant of minorities so I fail to see how them hating gays effects it. They are also one of North Korea's major trade partners, and sell technology and weaponry to each other. But Iran will never be communist, they hate religion.
A new cold War is near impossible as Russia, although still a dictaorship is no longer communist and no longer holds completed control of eastern europe and central Asia.
