If you Google "porsche sm oil", you will receive a nasty surprise indicating the newest API SM rated motor oils have less of the anti-wear additive known as "ZDDP" or zinc dialkyldithiophosphate compared to oils formulated to meet only the "from six years ago" API SL rating. The reduction of ZDDP results in more friction, and as a result, more wear on engine components.
I am an Amsoil user in everything from my lawnmower, ATV's, cars and diesels. This stuff is truely amazing. My differential temps on my truck dropped 12deg celcius when I put in amsoil and all my greasable joints are now greesed less. I recommend Amsoil to anyone. The best oil money can buy.
A study by North Carolina State university showed that Royal Purple improved fuel economy and reduced emissions when compared to Amsoil. Numerous independent users have also reported performance improvements when upgrading to Royal Purple. It's important to note that any lubricant manufacturer can point to specific lab tests in which their products excel as evidence of product quality. Royal Purple products excel where it matters, in real world applications.
@thecartel360 - I wonder why it is that Royal Purple 5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30 are merely API SL rated, from *six years* ago? The current highest API rating is SM and has been for almost six years. Even Wal Mart oil is API SM rated. So much for, "excelling". :)
@thecartel360 Are you aware that, "study", was from 2002/2003, almost 10 years ago?! The Royal Purple web site doesn't tell you that though, does it? Google is a wonderful tool. In my opinion, that, "study", is too old to be valid anymore. Do you have permission from Royal Purple to use copyrighted material from their web site and endlessly spam YouTube channels with it? I'd bet not.
@thecartel360 - LOL, Royal Purple is actually probably the worst in most tests. And trying to say, "screw the tests, Royal Purple works where it really matters in real world applications" is complete crap. You can ONLY rely on tests to show what product is better as there's these little things called "facts" that tests prove. I'd personally rather put cheap Walmart brand dino oil in my car than Royal Purple. Might have to change it sooner but at least it works better.
If you have any doubt the test results are valid you can use the same greases, run the tests and post your own video. Go to the Amsoil home page type in "impact simulator" and buy the equipment that Amsoil used in this test and you will come up with the same results! This should limit your skepticism!
This is a good thing however I would like to see the air pressure each time as you strike the plunger. This would remove any doubt as to wether the conditions are the same each time and therefore a true test.
these videos look fake and gay but to be honest this shit actually works...

Turns out newer is not always better.

How well does this test replicate the conditions inside heavy machinery parts?
