its not firmware 2.50 only..this guys stupid..my ps3 stopped reading discs so i called sony support on 3.55 and the told me to rebuild my data base using this menu is not hidden or on 2.50 only its recory mode stupid!

i did this a while ago. the problem i had is that while restoring an error occured, had to format the entire hdd. sucked because i didnt back up my save files and lost all of them, had to start over on some games i was trying to platinum.

@jaytux08 the blue light comes on when a disc is inserted. if a disc is in the drive, the blue light will illuminate.

I get to the part where it says connect the controller using an USB cable and then press the PS button. and when i press the button it doesn't work . WTF, but when I press it on the original boot ... WORKS FINE!! Any Ideas?!

this menu is not hidden, you could actually not switch between HDMI and SCART witouth it, by acsessing this menu your ps3 syncronizes with your TV

@EasyTutorialsTeam This menu was not accessible before the 2.50 firmware revision. The method used to switch between HDMI and SCART connections is different than accessing this menu.

OK so I knew about this and I used to do it when my PS3 would act funny but now, it wont even access this recovery mode. All it does is go black like its about to take me there and then it skips to normal boot up... Anybody know what the deal is? Also sometimes I get this blue screen written in all languages and then my PS3 will either rebuild itself or in one case reformat everything.

Thanks for the concern. I actually got it fixed. It turns out your HDD can get destroyed if you create and delete users without clearing the inbox. They explained it to me by saying there was gaps in the HDD sectors. Luckily I was in warranty :)

you first turn your system on standby (make the light red) then you hold the O/| button (the on/off button) keep holding it until you hear a beep then wait (keep holding it) then you should get to fast beeps.

You can't downgrade. And I don't think it's the update, maybe a faulty drive. I had a faulty drive on my PS3 (80GB 2008 Xmas) and had to send it in. Those models have had problems with the drive.

True, although when I added this video it was believed to believe a secret feature accidentally added in firmware 2.50, but yes, this is currently available in all PS3 firmware updates post 2.50.
