Im so proud to be cnd he is exactly what an athlete should be passionate and generous .... watch out Winter Olympics 2014 Patrick is coming for the Gold :) <3
Jump, jump, jump. He is a good enough skater. I'd like to see a wider range of presentation, but the values of figure skating have shifted to emphasize jumping.
No Russian split. No spiral. No romance. Maybe he will mellow out. How old is he?
@bluhvn100 Unfortunately, Russian splits, spirals, and other such moves would get him no real credit, so he would be unwise to expend the energy to do them. The IJS system is about working the point values, and he does it superbly. That said, he is my favorite skater right now. He's improved so much in the last year and I'm hoping he goes all the way to gold in Sochi.
Even though the landings are little shaky, but gee the foot work and expression is probably the best I've ever in the last 20 years. If the triple axel and the salchow handed a little better it would have been perfect. Better than Plushenko artistically but techically may be give him a couple more years.
the way he performs when he skates reminds me so much of jeffery buttle when he was skating. Patrick must have learnt so much from watching him and also with coreography from lori nichol he has sky rocketed pass how much jeffery presented
I'll start by saying that I'm not a big Chan fan (ducks!!! :-) ) but WOW! That's one heck of a performance. I've noticed some banter about Plushenko here (I am a big Plushenko fan). Honestly Plushenko today, I don't think Chan would have to worry too much as long as he lands those jumps. Plushenko of 10 years ago - I don't know but it would be fun to watch!
I really wish I could just watch this performance without the commentary... muting obviously doesn't work, the program wouldn't be the same without the musicality. If only it were CBC main's coverage.
@sixfootpianist7 I don't think so, beside even if it was under rotated they don't take points off unless it's under rotated of more then quarter of a turn
@sixfootpianist7 Actually, It is clean because of the way he landed his jump with speed. If it was under-rotated, the landing would have been hooked around, or even fell. If the landing is wobbly, spinny, or even fall, that's when they always check it.
This is the most athletically difficult skating in the history of men's skating. In addition, I think his ability to express the innermost feelings naturally oozes through the small changes in his facial expression and the intricately choreographed upper body movements. Little more polishing up the details will put this program among the legendary men's skatings..

Brilliant!! I've been watching competitive skating for 30 years and have never seen a program like this! Patrick Chan is the best male skater in the world and if he skates like this, he is unbeatable!!
Love his footwork and edges! And he makes his quad look like a triple. I agree that Plushenko is probably happy to see this, the point being that attempting quads should be encouraged rather than getting by with conservative programs that could actually be done by some women. By the way, wasn't Plushenko ruled ineligible for competion for some reason?
I love Patrick Chan's skating but, I was a little disappointed by the music choice for this performance. When he first started competing he skated to intricate classical music that showcased his elegance and technical skill. I understand and appreciate the effort that went into this program choreographically and physically by Lori and Patrick but it seems a bit too stars on ice to me. My dream was for him to skate to Mahler's 5th but that has become a classic for the Canadian Ice Dancers.
all the people last year at the Olympics who said that Patrick didn't have enough skill...that he was overrated.. that his awesome transitions and footwork weren't enough....that he can't win because he doesn't have a quad.. well I hope they're watching this now, because he just landed TWO perfect quads and showed them the best freeskate in figure skating..ever.
i hate how artisticly he is so poor, see the arms is so distracting so bad, his hands are allways open, he needs to improve really serious in that, because show that he practice to much and is not natural how must be!! But in the other hand is technique is so good!!
typically natioanls scores are a little inflated. It's a shame he didn't skate this program in an international event, he'de have set the scoring record, even with an element removed from each program this year, thats impressive!
typically nationals scores are a little inflated. It's a shame he didn't skate this program in an international event, he'de have set the scoring record, even with an element removed from each program this year, thats impressive!
I was there but I have to watch it over and over. This was undoubtedly the best performance the world has ever seen. It wasn't a fluke either -- Patrick was solid all week long in practice.
@SimonaCB Were you not aware of all the crap Plushenko was saying about everyone who did not have a quad? He needs to eat his words if he's planning to compete again, which he said he will in due time.
@dorkydork98 Yes, I am aware, of course. A lot of people insulted him because of that, but now they enjoy Chan´s skating and they are amazed by his quads. If young skaters don´t challenge theirself how can FS develop technically, we should expect Plushenko to do it, at 28 y.o? As a FS fan I would to see Plushenko losing to a lot of young skaters like Chan because that´s the right path. Anyway if I were P. I would be more concerned about my body and my injured feet than about Chan´s quads.
@SimonaCB Regardless, he now needs to eat his words. So many more people have incorporated the quad into their programs. He can't be condescending now. He believed he was on a pedestal and he would never fall. I have no idea what you're trying to argue. I'm not talking about the developments in figure skating, I'm saying that this program has rendered Plushenko's comments moot about Patrick Chan.
@dorkydork98 Plushenko never said Chan or any other skater hadn´t the ability to land quads, he said system should change in order to encourage skaters (Chan and anybody else) to land more quads, to not be afraid of falls and deductions. Chan´s quads didn´t appear from nowhere, a lot of skaters were training quads in practice but because quad wasn´t properly rewarded they had no reason to risk a fall. (cont.)
@dorkydork98 Now, if Plushenko wanted to be the only guy with quads he should have kept his mouth shut after the Olympics but he said he wanted more quads and his dream came true. If this isn´t the outcome he expected, I feel sorry for him! LOL!!!!! :)))))))
@islandsylph Yes, if you watched it on CBC then you got appropriate silence and only the most helpful comments from Kurt and Tracey. Unfortunately, the CBC broadcast of this isn't on YouTube. Even on CBC's website it's this Bold version. Ugh!

Two quads...speechless
very intricate and difficult steps
Very centred spins
good 3A
like the 3Lz 1Lo 3S combo- different
also the distance and his effortlessness on the last 2A
Wonderful use of edges to gain speed
Score- absolutely spectacular
