Yorkshire gritstone is great to climb on, just ridiculously polished until you reach around VS and HVS, then its nice and grippy :) I do alot of climbing at Ilkey. Its good.

Not that far from you! Mostly around Skipton. Earl Crag, Crookrise etc, Rylstone, Brimham and Scout Crag opposite Widdop. Even a bit from Great Whernside (snowy bit!)
