  • I hear a kind of the noice of Grateful Dead. Tnx for posting. Aweful.

  • I hate being 56, but glad I was around to see this & other similar stuff.

This is magic that will never be repeated.

Am I looking forward to seeing UB 40 at Croppers, nope.

Don't tell Richard Digence, doop do bi do da day

  • Great setting/song/performance coupled with really good filmaking and editing. Wonderful.

  • Oh this takes me right back to 1970 and seeing them at the Country Club in North London. His voice is so special. Happy days.

  • Man...this is really nice. I always had Matthews Southern Comfort down as one hit wonders. Ian Matthews voice is really unusual and the guitar/pedal steel crossover really works. A great version of a great song. Thanks.

  • Sneaky Pete Kleinow had 10 plus years over both Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons when the Burritos began - no big deal. RIP Sneaky and Gordon Huntley.

  • some people might reconize the lead guitarist in the band.It is Mark Griffiths who plays the bass guitar for the shadows and hank marvin.

  • ditto jastar. its almost too much.

  • Everyone loves a lap dissolve ! Especially with a sparkling guitar and that foxy blonde in a leather... Wheres my slipper..

  • I love the video. So raw. No production except cuts, zooms and fades. I love seeing the families and the kids enjoying this great music. Must have been a great day.

  • Awesome...

  • What a band,, Mark Griffiths, the lead guitarist here, went on to a long career playing bass with the "Shadows". Here, Iain had the best band you could find, with 3 part harmony vocals, The best British pedal steel player around, and a #1 hit single in the British charts with " Woodstock", and still was not happy. "Matthews Southern Comfort " was a great band, great music.

  • The vocalist in this song and in Fairport's "Time Will Show the Wiser" (accessible from this spot) look like two different guys. Watch both videos for the mannerism that lets you know they're both Ian Matthews.

  • Excellent... awesome. Should tag with the song's title, "My Front Pages."

  • Oh man this is BEAUTIFUL!

  • I've been listening to Arlo Guthrie's original for over 35 years. It freshens my ears to hear it in this marvelous cover with the heavenly harmony vocals. Ian Matthews always had impeccable taste in choosing his répertoire.

  • MSC certainly sprinkled the covers with magic, their version of Woodstock was (pardon the pun) off the chart!

  • Beautiful music, Beautiful voices, Beautiful video and a Great Great song!!!

  • how intensely bizarre, been a fan of steeleye and faiport for decades and haint ever heard of these zanies...thankky

  • Anyone know the name of the drummer?

  • The drummer was Ray Duffy.

  • Really tremendous, just gorgeous the way everyone in the band harmonizes. Funny to think I'm older now than their 42-year-old Gordon Huntley. Is this song on any vinyl or CD recording?

  • Is there ANY available recording of MSCs version???? Is it on any specific bootleg or something? It's so friggin' beautiful!

  • If you find out about a bootleg let others know. But just in case you don't know, many of Matthews' performances of the American singer-songwriter material with Fairport were released in the last 15 years, for instance on _Heyday_, which is my fav. Fairport album (not their best, but I love it so). And you could try Arlo's original of this song on _Running Down the Road_.

  • Oh yes, I know about Arlos' original, though I haven't heard it. I've been meaning to get the "Running Down The Road" album for some time because, of course, "Comming Into Los Angeles" and I love "Every Hand In The Land," great guitar work from Clarence White on that!

  • Could somebody tell me what's the name of the song? It's beautiful

  • It's My Fornt Pages By Arlo Guthrie

  • thanks for putting this on, just in time for Cropredy ! I love the way a big deal is made of the fact the steel guitarist is ( shock horror) 42 !

  • Most of the audience will now be in their 50s and beyond!

  • I'm one of the young uns there ! ( I'm 44!). However , the first time I saw Fairport was the 1985 tour , and I remember it was a good gig in Leeds and on the walk home me and my mates commemted that they were really good and lively for a bunch of old guys. I reckon they were about 38 at the time ! I did buy 'Later that same year' by MSC which i loved and has got me into I an Matthews ever since !

  • Even at that time when he was 42 years old during this performance, Gordon Huntley rocks!

  • Matthews melifluous vocals deserve wider recognition. This is great stuff. Can't help but wonder where Fairport Convention would have gone had they stayed the course and not departed to pursue traditional English folk music at which they were also fantastic. Just loved Matthews fronting them.

  • All those good memories.

  • lovely
