  • F*kn brilliant!!! This movie was an important and positive part of my coming out, regardless of the so-called "negative" stereotypes which some people in the community got their panties all tied in knots about.

  • harold and larry, hank are the only ones that save this movie. others are a bit on the weak side

  • One of the alltime best film entrances.

  • There are so many great lines in this movie. I heard the gay community was in an uproar for he most part when this movie came out because of the stereotypes. But, I think they were trying to cover all sorts of types of gay people from the flamer to the closet case etc...It also showed just how prevalent substance abuse was among the community. Remember, this was just one year after Stonewall.

  • I have seen this dozens of times, but still, the end sort of eludes me. What is the importance of what Michael wrote on Harolds card? Why such a secret? And then the straight dude in the whole movie...Did he really mean to tell Michael he had loved him in college or was it all in Michael's head? Was this movie all about self-loathing and guilt about being gay?

  • I frikkin LOVE Princess Hallie!

  • Hard to believe that this is the same actor who played Motel the Tailor in Fiddler on the Roof.

    Hereeeeee's Harold!

  • I AM Michael in this; I was 13 when this movie was out and it was rated M..what a classic and t s not re-shown enough!

  • Also, you should include the scene when Harold says "turning, turning".."I'm turning on, you're just turning"

    LOVE This!

  • always wanted some one to write an account of this film and all those that starred in it.

  • One of the great entrances in the history of theatre/film!!!

  • GODDD I love that line.

    What's so fucking funny?

Life. Life's a Goddamn laugh-riot. You remember life.

  • so who do you have to fuck to get a drink around here?

  • I love this film.

  • Indeed, the best entrance in film history! RIP Leonard Frey.. you were amazing!

  • the greatest line in the history of CINEMA

But i think its more about the fabulous Delivery.

  • ...and how are YOU this evening?

  • Best entrance line on film history

  • "Princess Hallie" has many gems in this movie...I always liked when he said..."Oh, really? Well why don't you NOT tell me about it?"

  • Absolutely perfect. Flawless.

  • and the cowboy was gay too in real life he died of aids aswell

  • harold, michael, donald and larry were the only gay actors in real life and all 4 died of aids

  • @boizboi Cowboy was gay too, sadly was nearly homeless but Cliff Gorman (Emory) and his wife took him in until he died of AIDS,. Gorman died of cancer... RIP EMORY!

  • UNRIVALED GHEYNESS!!

  • one of the most brilliant lines in cinema...

  • One of the greatest entrances in American Theatre.

  • I want to be Harold when Im his age.

  • @LEAFtea57 You want to be a 32 year old ugly, pock-marked, jew fairy or just stoned? :)

  • Just bought the dvd today and going to watch it tonight.Too bad I dont drink anymore.

  • "What I am Michael is a 32 year-old, ugly, pock marked Jew fairy, and if it takes me a little while to pull myself together, and if I smoke a little grass before I get up the nerve to show my face to the world, it's nobody's god damned business but my own. And how are you this evening?" is one of the greatest lines ever uttered in a film. And my god it is delivered magnificently here!

  • Harold steals the show. He has the funniest lines.

  • GOOD NEWS EVERYONE ..."BOYS IN THE BAND" HAS JUST COME OUT ON DVD...the wait is over!

    p.s i love this scene

  • Homosexuality: the "problem" that doesn't exist.

  • "What I am Michael is a 32 year-old, ugly, pock marked Jew fairy, and if it takes me a little while to pull myself together, and if I smoke a little grass before I get up the nerve to show my face to the world, it's nobody's god damned business but my own. And how are you this evening?""

    ROTFLMAO!!

    Classic.......

  • The best line in the movie. Just brilliant.

  • Hummly, you should have added, "And how are you this morning?" at the end of your quote, and you'd sound just like Harold! I actually read your post aloud in Harold's voice and it's as though Mart Crowley wrote it! Hummly, you big queen, you!

  • geez how do you know? were u taking pictures?

  • As a closeted gay teenager attending private school in Boston in 1970, this was the 1st film I ever went to alone.

The self hating bitchiness among gays was so real back then, indicitive of a culture soon to break out,and brilliantly captured in these composite stereotypical characters. We've come long way babies!

  • Excellent Drama from Freidkin. I was lucky enough to have buddy record this off cable for me and transfer it to DVD.I showed this one night to a group of friends. being straight myself. My guest met the showing with the usual "Are you Gay, what's this all about My reply "grow up Butch You always say you love well made movies so what's your issue

  • BRILLIANT.

I love this movie and this scene.

Harold appears actually in The fiddler on the roof.

He sadly passed away years ago(AIDS).

Curiously, part of the cast of this movie died of AIDS.

  • yes he played the Tailor who marries Zeital "What does that poor, skinny Tailor want with Zeital? She and Motyl have been friends since they were children! They talk, they play They play??? What do they play?? They're only children! Ah, from such children come other children!!" :)

  • i love love love this movie :]

    its awesome!!

  • If this dvd exists please tell me where i can find it. simply wonderful

  • You see this guy standing at the door and you expect a deep masculine voice and when he laughs, you can't help but laugh, totally unexpected. Brilliant!

  • Not having seen the movie yet, im definately motivated to see it more now for this scene alone (Not the actual reason for seein it in the first place) but its pretty damn good deliverance....Im already in love with this film!

  • there is a better exchange between Harold and Michael later in the film. Harold completely Shuts Michael completely down w/ his shade! "Everything is PAID FOR!!!!!!!!!!"

  • Do you know if there is a clip up on this scene on youtube? I would love to see it as i still do not have a copy of the film (I hope to soon)

  • great film!!! harold was not that ugly! he is also in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF

  • hey was the guy who played Harold gay in RL?

  • @randy0987 Yes, his name was Leonard Frey. He co-starred in an early-80's hit TV show and later died of AIDS in that decade. You can also find him guest-paneling on the "Match Game" show (1983-85).

  • @dallaskenn Leonard Frey was also the tailor in Fiddler on the Roof who married Tevyas oldest daughter

  • Howard was a SHADY bitch ! I love IT!

  • how rude! LOL

  • Harold was pretty ugly, especially for a 32 year old. I would've guessed he was at least 40!

  • Harold's response is a classic. "and how are you this evening......."

  • Great movie!

    Amazing acting and direction.

  • This is a very good movie.
