  • awesome \m/ Real music!

  • men pete are ball and old....but....still fucking rocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @RobbyBobbins

and im sure pino is one,

but the who require a specific sound, the bass is a very important part to any who song.

pino always uses finger, has a plain sound, and jazz'es things up a bit.

its nice, but its not who style.

the who needs a loud grunty bass. even if its not entwistle standard, you can still give a bass a bit of grunt

  • @andyg3 you're right men entwistle is essential in the who

  • I love The Who but Roger needs to hang it up. He just can't sing anymore. 45+ years of singing your guts out almost every night just isn't kind to the vocal chords. That being said I did see them in 2008 and it was a pretty good show considering the member changes and their age.

  • Pete Townsend owes my 16mo son $2 for dropping the F-bomb

  • @thewho6507 yyh but i thnk pete n roger have got somthn to do with his levels hes not got the freedom like john had .

  • I like the who, but this is crap!

They can't sing anymore, they play it much too slow...

    They shouldn't play this anymore....

  • Most visionary Who track ever.

  • Wow. A fantastic typical The Who song and well performed. Roger and Pete are still awewome. And Zack, the son of Ringo Starr, play really good drum.

  • nice version, killer solo!

  • fuckin dumb comment v v v v v v

  • When I hear this song I think of Moonie and MJ. This was one of the songs that Keith missed because of dropping some elephant tranqs... They replaced his nearly dead ass with some lucky fucker in the audience. I wonder if they had replacements waiting in the audience for Jacko's upcoming London gigs. I wouldn't put anything past those Lymey Roadies !!! They have been known to make stranger things happen.

P.S did you know limes stave off scurvey?

  • fuck i wish they played it fast and loud and not acoustic like the good ole days. what i would give to go back in time and see this at the isle of wight festival, or hear them play it when i saw them live in october this year

  • This is great Zach's drumming is much different than Keith's but I still think Zach ads a new flavor to the group.

  • thank you for uploading..i loved it!!

  • Pete's voice definitely aged better than Roger's. He sounds great on this track.

  • Roger's a bit hoarse here, but it really works for this song. One of my most played youtube favorites.

  • in the concert i went to roger sounded way better than he did here, and that was 4 days ago. he sounds better as he ages.

  • this version seems a little slower then that of yester year...

  • this needs the mystical guitar improv in the beginning that's always there in every version

  • My goodness is that good. I grew up all Stones. But these guys are amazing...into their 60's. The Stones, unfortunately, can't do it anymore (in my opinion). Peter Townshend is a titan of rock.

  • still got it boys , fookin awesome

  • it was on the odds and sods compilation

  • Isn't it also a bonus track on the remastered Who's Next CD?

  • An excellent live version is on Who's Next, not the studio one.

  • Yeah, the Deluxe Edition has live tracks on Disk 2 from various performances, good stuff.

  • Which would be the better Who live purchase, Isle of Wight, or the Deluxe Edition of Who's Next? (I have the single disk remaster)

  • Live in Leeds Deluxe!!!

  • Definetely Who's Next Deluxe. Isle of Wight is highly overrated and pretty unnecessary when there is also Live At Leeds to buy. Practically the same setlist, much better performance. And WN Deluxe is one of the better Deluxe sets.

  • I already have my single disk Who's Next, what would I do with that once I buy the deluxe? How much doya think I'd get for it at a used CD store?

  • Well, since the single disc contains the best sounding versions of Don't Even Know Myself and Too Much Of Anything (IMO), I'd keep that one as well.

If you want to sell it, I've seen new copies of the single disc priced at 5 bucks, so I don't think that would be worth your while. My advice would be to keep it though.

  • Fantastic. I see and hear this song for the first time. Is it from the last album? A typical very good Who song that works on stage absolut great

  • He's so amazing Pete

  • Man, they can still bring it! I've always loved how they end their shows with this song (usually) and the people who don't really know their stuff are looking around going "what the hell is this?" while the real Who fans just smile.

My congrats to anyone at the show.

  • The best song of The Who!

  • 3:38 - 6:10 What a good shit is that?

  • Is out there an official DVD for this U.S Shows?

    Thanks

  • What an awesome version!

  • these guys are as cool now as ever.....

  • This shows how Pete can still kick ass on guitar when his in 60s

  • I was at this show! Can't believe how good they were. I've seen them in four decades now. I'm the man!! I'm also getting old!

  • Awesome ! Was the whole gig like that ???

  • Yes, i've got the cd and this show is really one of the best i've heard as far!

  • Yes, i've got the cd and this show is really one of the best i've heard as far!

  • Hi hoelt! Yes, the show was amazing! Roger got sick about a week after this show. I've seen the who 8 or 10 times since 1979. This was one of the best shows!

  • Amazing rendition of my favorite Who-song.

Roger's voice fits the song beautiful right here.

  • The best The Who song

  • this song rocks,

    this band rocks,

    i just came everywhere

  • Ow man, it´s my favorite song from the who.. i love this song, really!

  • Don't really happen that way at all... great song!!!

  • I saw them in Sept '06 in ottawa---i probably would've shat myself if they played NAKED EYE there!!! it's possibly the best Who song ever!!!!

  • This is my absolute favorite Who song. For sheer perfection, check out the version on Odds 'n' Sods. Absolutely amazing, and yes Pete sings verse 2 perfectly on that one.

Naked Eye was going to be part of Townsend's 'Lifehouse Project', which was going to be an epic concept album. In the end it got trimmed down into the non-concept Who's Next, but certain gems like Naked Eye are out there and never got as much attention as the more familiar titles such as Baba or Fooled Again.

  • PETE? Huh? That's Roger Daltry aaaduuuhhh!

  • except for the album recording (and its arguable there) I think this is the best I've heard Pete sing the second verse of this song.

  • Where do you get these DVDs from? I'd love to get to a copy of this show.

  • I went through the DVD menu, and apparantly they did do an encore. They just didn't play Naked Eye.

  • I went to the show right before this, in Indianapolis on the 6th. They were great, but they didn't do an encore :(

  • yeah, ok, i just think that pino isnt rite for the who, he isnt rock enough, hes jazz

  • yep,and the worst thing is he doesn't have the bass up s o you can't hear it

  • @thewho6507 yyh but i thnk pete n roger have got somthn to do with his levels hes not got the freedom like john had

  • @andyg3 Well John Entwhistle is DEAD - so who do you suggest???

  • @gov360dotorg

    i duno.

but someone whos a bit more rocky on the bass.and can chose a good tone, like john did.

pinos tone is to soft for the who.

  • @andyg3 The Who has evolved and changed - like any good band should do - like people do -

They do NOT need a "lead" bass player like John anymore - Pete is doing way too many leads on guitar for John's style to work anymore - it would be chaos.

Now, back in the day - Pete needed John to play bass like a lead instrument - not anymore. It is too bad John is dead - but he was actually ruining their over-all sound on their tours after 96 when Pete started really playing LEAD on the guitar.

  • @gov360dotorg I agree evolution in a band is critical (Look how the Beatles started out, and then what they ended up doing!), but that chaotic style has always been the very core of the Who's live performances. If you listen to Live at the IoW you'll notice Pete has a strong lead as does John, but yet their sound remains fantastic, if you like that kind of sound. The Who did evolve, though - From classic punk to synthesizer-laced tunes, and beyond.

But certain things always remain in a band.

  • Because he's a great bassist. I dunno why, but maybe they think it's wrong to just take any old bassist and turn the amp to 11- the point is, they don't have John Entwistle, and they never will again. Maybe they shouldn't try to replace him. It wouldn't be the same.

  • the version of this at glenns falls is awesome, it has john, thats why, pino needs to get better loudersound

  • pete is just king on the outro

  • Magical Solos from pete. just pure genious.

  • shouldve done love reign o'er me than this

  • While love is a great song, Naked eye is just so amazing. and its not over played so when they do it, its a song not alot of people have heard before.
