CPUs fab process gets smaller, power consumption goes down.......but they can fit more transistors on there so power consumption goes back up.......ehhh soon they wont be able to make em smaller and theyll move on to carbon nanotubes

I understand what you mean, but with that Mac example: The Macbook Pro of course need more power, because of the powerful components, so the batteries have been made better, if the same type of battery was in the newer computers it would have a lot less, almost nothing :-) You get my point? But I do agree that battery should improve even more! Awesome video, very informative!

@Andykiller525 actually the amount of power the CPUs need is about the same thats why the battery life doesnt differ much, i think if you were to use a ni-mh battery on a MBP now youd get about the same 5 hours as you did with the powerbook G3....

Also when people get home from school and work they charge there batterys and by night it will be full but they will leave it on the charger thinking by the next day it will be low

Well what alot of people tend to do with smartphones and laptops and tablets is they use alot of apps playing games music movies so when they are doing so they want to make sure that there device wont run out of battery life so they put it on the charger and alot of people use there devices all day so they start to ruin and overcharge there battery in doing so. it kills it thats one of the main reasons for people having problems with battery life .

Hey Duncan, so with a laptop, do you recommend getting a 9 cell or a 6 cell? is it worth the huge bump at the bottom? and do the number of cells in a battery extend how long it will be able to retain a full charge over time? meaning like how many cycles the battery can go through before it doesn't take a charge any more?

well batteries have come a long way if you think about it we came from nicads you could charge thoes batteries backwards forwards they where really safe but had bad life then the nickel metal hydrite came out practically the same with 6 cells still with better battery life and suck but they would be burrning hot now we have lipos whitch run and run and run and then stop because they wont give anymore power if you keep trying to get power from it the pack would expand and or burn up causing fire.

wtf, did you forget that, a old pc didnt have to run so many processors at ones, e.g in a old laptop your not gonna be able to download or watch anything online only check your email and some other things, that doesn't use any battery at all. And a New laptop it will have a huge number of programs and got to process al kind of things, which takes alot of battery. it have improved. if you think im wrong, check it yourself, put a old battery from a old laptop to a new laptop, it will die very fast

@jegerreda Not really. CPUs have stayed fairly similar in their power usage, for example a Celeron CPU from the late 90s actually uses slightly more power than a new ULV Core i5. Just because new processors are faster doesn't mean that they are vastly more power hungry.

@jegerreda The battery from an old laptop would die quicker, but that's NOTHING to do with the CPU - it's battery efficiency. Each time you drain and charge your battery, it loses some efficiency, so the next time you change it, it won't last as long. Nothing to do with the CPU at all.

I think these videos are a lot of fun learning facts and stuff like vsauce. However, I think you could have included more tips or go a little more into the tips. For example, I read somewhere in an Android forum that you shouldn't drain you battery down to nothing more than once a month. People wouldn't know because you didn't mention that. Also we got more facts than tips and tips are awesome too. Other than that, these videos are awesome. I actually watch Duncan33303 more than SKB or TB. haha.

i wouldn't recommend draining your battery all the way dead too many times. Lithium ion batteries last longer when you keep them fully charged. draining your lithium battery totally dead can really kill the battery life. Unlike the old nickel cadmium batteries, recharging your battery even when it's not dead does not effect the battery life of a lithium ion battery

batterys have increased greatly but the technology they have to run requires alot more power usage, if you put a battery from a macbook pro in a laptop from the 90s it would last a hell of alot more than 5 hours!
