  • Diagnosed on July 4th, 2010 while I was at AIT at Goodfellow AFB and currently back home doing rehab. Walking but with minor balance issues and pain after walking for an extended period of time. Stairs are still an issue, going down them more than going up. Also don't know whether or not the Army will let me come back after getting GBS.

  • Inspirational! My mom is in week 3-4 of GBS, triggered by her spinal surgery last month. Still intubated but making small improvements every day. For a family full of Type A "fixer" personalities, patience is the hardest thing to come by. She went from recovering from surgery - walking, eating - to nearly 100% disabled and on life support in 4 days.

  • I remember my first time home with a day pass... "Fully" recovered, 9 years later still struggling with the stairs. It changed my life. Good luck to you, very nice video, you seem to be in very positive spirits and that is key.

  • I was diagnosed with GBS on 4/28/09 and I'm now at home rehabbing. Your videos are a good inspiration to everyone that has GBS to believe and hope you can recover.

  • I remember going through this just 1 year ago!!!! When I became ill I was so scared because I am very active and I use to run Cross Country. But with the love and support of friends and family and everyone from my school I was able to make a quick recovery. My Physcial Therapists were so amazing too, I owe they everything, if it were not for them pushing me to work hard I may not be where I am today.

Congrats to you and I wish you the best of Luck!! :)

    Peace

  • Hello from United Kingdom!

I had Guillain Barre 6 months ago, Just wanted to say this video is lovely!

I remember the feeling of the first time after GBS hit that i managed a set of stairs, i had a massive grin and you feel so great after. GBS is a very scary illness and im sure its changed your life like it has us all! I hope you are/have recovered well now and enjoying life! All the best, Michelle.

  • Hi, I am in rehabilitation and your video is so pretty. Congratulations for you to surpass Guillain Barre. God bless you.

  • i had GBS too and i am 13! i had had it when i was 12! i know it was pretty scary for me..

  • thanks for posting:) ive been in the hospital for one month and ive just started rehab. I was pretty lucky to have been diagnosed within the first two hours of my admission in the hospital. theres actually been 5 cases of gbs just in this hospital(Iowa methodist). Anyways, thanks for the post and congrats on your recovery, stay strong gbs survivors

  • i just wanna say congradulations on making it this far. Also that the doctors got to you quick and got the ball rolling in the other direction. My father in-law had GBS for 5 years when his body finally gave up fighting to get better this year on Spet. 15. The doctors told him off the bat that he was just sick and go home and sleep it off finally 2 and a half months later the disease got to the bottom of his lungs when they caught it. fluid build up around his heart made it give up.

  • Hope you make a good recovery, I suffer from CIDP which is recurring GBS.

One thing to keep in mind is that the mylene coating which the bodys immune system attacks only regrows at a rate of a milimetere a day so depending how much is gone it can take a year to two to make a full recovery so keep positive that it will get better.

  • Hi, I'm 27 and was diagnosed GBS a week ago. I had the first symptoms three week ago. I am capable of walking and all the videos published on YouTube really help me to give motivation to fight against GBS with happiness. Hope you're better now!

  • I feel lucky considering I wasn't diagnosed until nearly three weeks after onset.

  • blandry24,

congratulations on your recovery at this point. My wife was diagnosed with GBS on November 4. She started with symptoms on Sunday and by Tuesday morning, she was in a wheelchair. Upon entering the Emergency Department, the Neurologist diagnosed and had her started on plasmapheresis within two hours

  • I'm happy to hear about your wife. It really makes a difference when they can diagnose and treat so quickly. We also had started treatment within 4 hours and now about a month later she's out of rehab and walking around home. I hope rehab is going (went?) well and wish you good luck on the rest of her recovery.
