One question, do you have to have the VGA port on the Graphics card if your monitor uses one and I want to use this card for gaming? Could I just use the VGA port on the onboard for the monitor? Or do I have to one on the graphics card in order for it work?
hey man, how will dual monitor will work on this card? I have two monitors that I want to hook up, but I have one monitor that has DVI and VGA, and another monitor that only has VGA. I was thinking about using HDMI to DVI, and DVI to VGA for the monitors. You think that could work?
@EmoticonMayhem is it getting the 1gb version nessecary? i should i just get the 512 i mean i dont see the point in the getting the 1gb. why do you prefer the 1gb? please anwser
@mast3rmgl if you are running a task such as a game which relies on the graphics card alot and your task uses more video memory than you have the speed in which your card renders drops significantly. So as long as the tasks you will be running only use 512mb or less both the 1GB and 512MB will run at the same speed but if your task uses more than 512mb but less than 1GB the 1GB version will have a very significant speed increase.
hey guys..what are the dimensions of this GPU?? Also,I have an Intel stock Motherboard with absolutely no mods. I have an AGP slot that is in use with an inbuilt SiS Mirage 3 Graphics Acc.
My Mo-bo is a Intel E4500 2.2Ghz with 4GB RAM..will this card be compatible?
Cool video. I have one question. Do this video card supports 3D resolution or 3D? Because i have a simulator that is asking me if my video card supports 3D resolusion and i dont want to hurt or damage my video card. thanks.
@dominicanno809 Hi, it has 3D stereoscopic display/glasses support and requires 3D stereo drivers, glasses, and a 3d display. You won't hurt your card :)
What kind of power source would you recommend for this card? My computer currently runs on a 300w power source and I was hoping I could find a card above an ATI 3650 that doesn't require me to buy a new power source.
Any tips about this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
@eteknix OK thanks for the answer. Would you recommend this card for my system?: Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5GHz, 2GB DDR2 800MHz de RAM and case Foxconn TLM-776 with a PSU of 400Watts???
@Ultramendoza It should be ok, if you can stretch to it, get a 5750, you will notice a BIG difference. Next thing to upgrade after that would be maybe a move to DDR3 or another 2gb + of DDR2 and a better beefier power supply.

Nice review, but I still have some questions about reference cooling system:
- Is it loud?
- And which material do they use for fan axis? Is it metal or plastic like in my stupid palit 6800 GS. Because after 4 years this rubbish axis gained some backlash and started to buzz
@Emailrus It's not very loud at all. What part of the fan are you talking about? I always recommend XFX for graphics cards due to their warranty if you have any noise issues etc...
Be sure to sign up to eteknix [dot] com where you can discuss anything computer related and get a lot of help on choosing the right parts.
I already bought XFX 1Gb version for about 115 USD and I like it. Currently i'm able to play games like mafia 2, metro 2033 and so on.
And I was talking about axis of fan, it's usually made of metal, but in my old card it was plastic. I've got a link, but can't show it here. If you interested, I can send it to you in PM.
Any idea on the rough dimensions of this card? I have an HP desktop from bestbuy, an a6203w. Now the case isn't one of those slim line cases, but it isnt gigantic either.
hey, I got a question, im going to buy this card, but the sapphire one. But my PC has an integrated gpu, and its the Nvidia 9100. so will i be able to put it on my system? or because i cant use crossfire or sli, (i dont know how to put this in words) wont the cards clash? or which card would my comp use?
@DBZfan1231 I had the exact same integrated card as you. I now have the VisonTek ATI Raedon HD 5670, except mines a 1GB GDDR5. I bought it, got a new power supply, got it installed, and the 9100 shut off. I can run basically all games like a dream. I recommend you check bestbuy, since thats where I got it. Only difference is the VRAM.
you said you cant crossfire this card... are you shure? i think it can be crossfired without the wire you just plug 2 of them and activate the program for crossfiring... i might be wrong tho :O
Can sombody help me. I have that card and i crashes every time i play battlefield bad company 2 after 15 min. I've get the message: display driver stopped responding and god restored succesfully. The temprature of the card is around 65 celcius. with default clock settings system specifications: dual core processer 4 gb ram 750 gb hdd ati radeon hd 5670 1gb 400 w psu Computer name: Acer aspire m5641 if somebody need more information send me a message
I'm building a computer in a few months with one of these, a Radex Smilodon case, an i3 Dual Core 2.93ghz processor, and a motherboard that lets these cards do crossfire if I get another HD 5670 in the future (which I will :) ) I already have windows to run on it, and two monitors, and the total cost of all the parts (I'm building my first gaming PC) comes in at 650 bucks. I'm gonna have almost a terabyte of hardrive space, and it will be running games and Windows 7 on separate hardrives.
@eteknixOperating System:Windows Vista (TM) Home Basic* , Service Pack 2 DirectX* Version: 10.0 Physical Memory: 2037 MB Minimum Graphics Memory: 8 MB Maximum Graphics Memory: 256 MB Graphics Memory in Use: 69 MB Processor: x86 family 6 Model 15 Stepping 13 Processor Speed: 1999 MHZ Vendor ID: 8086 Device ID: 2772 Device Revision: 02 Can i have this card, i have a 19" screen (1440x900)
I need a graphics card for my pc but unsure what to get. I have a spare PCI-E x16 slot, 2.2ghz ,2 gb Ram and i think its 300 Watt supply. Could you recommend something? My computer is a Compaq Presario SR2019UK Desktop PC.
@MetalMatt2510 You may have trouble finding a card to fit due to the make of PC, and depends on budget too, but ideally you will be looking at something with low power usage and no need for a 6 pin PCI-E adapter like a 5570 maybe?
I have heard a lot about this card and my friends and fellow forum readers have recommended it to me as I am on a budget. I am concerned about one thing though, I have a 230w or 250w PSU, and I have heard this uses low power. Is there any program or way I can run a program on my computer that will tell me my current wattage draw, and the draw the card has, so I can find out if I will have enough wattage? Because I cant afford a new PSU.
Also, even if I am 30 watts off, what will happen? Crash?
Would this card be better than the geforce gt 220 because thats the one i have and i cant play games because they lag so would me swiching to this card benefit?
Etenix nice Review, however this card does 32FPS for Farcry 2 thats is neat, I am planning to get the 5850 hopefully the prices might just dip in a few more months.
That DEPENDS on your motherboard. If your motherboard doesn't support it, it's not going to happen. So yes it DOES support crossfire, but only through software mode.
Feel free to come on the next conference call with me to AMD's marketing manager and you can hear them pronounce it the same as me :)
@eteknix No in your video you clearly state "Sadly this card hasnt got that functionality. " (crossfire). And If someone is smart enough to upgrade the graphics they will be pretty sure as to if there motherboard supports x fire or not.
hey ;) great review, can you tell me what the differenc between ati radeon sapphire radeon and all those others please because im new to this and very confused! also is the 5770 a better choice for games such as Gta 4 (5 when it comes out lol) and MW2? thankyou in advance
So my 300w power supply would be able to handle this card? I'd like to run Warhammer: Dawn of war 2. it requires NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT / ATI X1900 or equivalant. I just need a card that'll be able to run the game well.
The GT240 is an old generation card. The 5670 has directx 11 support, stream technology and ATI Eyefinity. Personally i would get a bit more cash together and go for the 5750.
well im buying this one tomorrow and i have to say tht im realy impressed and i think that it is somthing more than just a graphics card for light gamers since i have managed to play crysis 2 on an old pc with intel pentium 4 2.4ghz.... and a his radeon hd 2600 lol....
It only uses 51w of power at load, so it depends on the other spec of your computer, but if you haven't got a massively intensive computer, i guess it would be fine.
@ivr56 I think you should be ok with a 5670, but obviously if it starts freezing etc... then upgrade. Personally i would look at a 550w upwards anyway.
Looking into more reviews, I was looking at a GT240 also (Zotac Recommends 300W). But in reviews (Toms Hardware) the HD5670 uses less or around the same power then a GT240.
anyway, what FPS would I get in WoW with this, I want a good 30+ with max, and what Power wattage would you recommend me getting, if you could post a link to a PSU then I would be greatly appreciative, cheers and thanks for the video, free sub and 5 stars ^^
Its hard to tell as i don't have WoW to test it with, and can't post links but google around and i'm sure you'll find it :) PSU wise, i always recommend Corsair, BFG, XFX, OCZ as the main ones, and don't skimp on a PSU. If you have the money then get a 550watt upwards to future proof your system. Hope that helps. You can get more complex answers on - forums(dot)eteknix(dot)com
Thanks, it supports software crossfire, but to be honest, this is all down to the drivers, which isnt fantastic for it. Sapphire version does look good :)
It all depends on the rest of your system and how much power that needs as this card uses around 51w at LOAD so should be fine depending on the rest of your system.
Why can't I find a video that shows you the card in action??? I only see vids like this one that show u the card itself but never see anyone using it. Does that seem odd to anyone???
What do you mean? You want to see it in the motherboard with the fan spinning or you want to see the quality of the graphics on the screen? I'm waiting for my HD camcorder to come and then i may will do this a bit in the reviews but i can't imagine you'd be able to see the differences.
I did mean to mention it can do software crossfire, and not traditional but this all depends on your motherboard and ati drivers which are still very buggy when it comes to it.
To those who think this card is weak, I used to have a Radeon 4670 up until about a couple months ago when I got a Radeon 5850. Except for a couple games like GTA4, Crysis, some others, that Radeon 4670 performed great. Considering this card improves upon that same basic level of performance (400 Stream Processors as opposed to the 320 of the Radeon 46xx, 38xx, 29xx cards) it's a great card with great improvements in the GPGPU and DX11 arena. Good card, fantastically low power consumption too
I completely agree, my brother has the 4670 and he could play any game in directx 9 at full detail full AA and AF at 1360x768 and would have at least 60fps. (he doesn't play crysis)
the card supports crossfirex !!!!

I'm gonna have almost a terabyte of hardrive space, and it will be running games and Windows 7 on separate hardrives.

bazmaximo 1 year ago
@bazmaximo You could check your motherboard manual or the manufacturer's website.

@bazmaximo Or download CPUZ

If you got one of the dual-slot versions of the card, they have the crossfire bridge...

I need a graphics card for my pc but unsure what to get. I have a spare PCI-E x16 slot, 2.2ghz ,2 gb Ram and i think its 300 Watt supply. Could you recommend something? My computer is a Compaq Presario SR2019UK Desktop PC.
MetalMatt2510 1 year ago
@MetalMatt2510 You may have trouble finding a card to fit due to the make of PC, and depends on budget too, but ideally you will be looking at something with low power usage and no need for a 6 pin PCI-E adapter like a 5570 maybe?
eteknix 1 year ago
@eteknix Can my PC fit the ATI redeon HD 5670 with a "PCI-E1 16x", 405w psu, 2gb ram and so on.
seanLFCcoyne 1 year ago
@seanLFCcoyne Yes it can no problem :)

ASUS's version of this card has the crossfire function, which was the one I recently bought. *happy*
Great review guys!

Crash?
nfarnham2008 1 year ago
@nfarnham2008 it would work slower
SuperTechmech 1 year ago
Mmk, But I figure even IF it does work slower, until I get a better PSU, that thing working slower is better than my crappy integrated nvidia 6150
nfarnham2008 1 year ago
true i had the Nvidia 6150 and no i was able to play cod 4 on 20-60 fps
Joserpillarramos1 1 year ago
i actually looked at the benchmarks and if you overclock it you can get 59 -63 fps out of this little guy
lcrosbyclan 1 year ago
Would this card be better than the geforce gt 220 because thats the one i have and i cant play games because they lag so would me swiching to this card benefit?
crudnup 1 year ago
does the GPU memory matter from 512 to 1Gb??(for this gou though)
Joserpillarramos1 1 year ago
Etenix nice Review, however this card does 32FPS for Farcry 2 thats is neat, I am planning to get the 5850 hopefully the prices might just dip in a few more months.
shanki77 1 year ago
Your wrong,
This card DOES support X fire, The 2 cards communicate through the PCI -E bus, it doesnt need a bridge.
and pronounce Radeon properley. jeez
rockhardmovies 1 year ago
That DEPENDS on your motherboard. If your motherboard doesn't support it, it's not going to happen. So yes it DOES support crossfire, but only through software mode.
Feel free to come on the next conference call with me to AMD's marketing manager and you can hear them pronounce it the same as me :)
eteknix 1 year ago
@eteknix No in your video you clearly state "Sadly this card hasnt got that functionality. " (crossfire). And If someone is smart enough to upgrade the graphics they will be pretty sure as to if there motherboard supports x fire or not.
rockhardmovies 1 year ago
im thinking of getting this as an upgrade from my GeForce 8400 GS. is it worth it? oh and what's the slot where the VGA should be at?
StevenBergstrom 1 year ago
hey ;) great review, can you tell me what the differenc between ati radeon sapphire radeon and all those others please because im new to this and very confused! also is the 5770 a better choice for games such as Gta 4 (5 when it comes out lol) and MW2? thankyou in advance
propaguything 1 year ago
So my 300w power supply would be able to handle this card? I'd like to run Warhammer: Dawn of war 2. it requires NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT / ATI X1900 or equivalant. I just need a card that'll be able to run the game well.
insidious234 1 year ago
I'd say it should work fine to be honest. Don't expect amazing graphics, but you will notice a different from previous generation cards.
eteknix 1 year ago
@insidious234 look at the tomshardware benchmarks if it can run dirt2 at 40 fps you should be fine
lcrosbyclan 1 year ago
If i had a choice of nVidia GT 240 1GB Or ATI HD5670 512MB which one should i go with?
philrox101 1 year ago
The GT240 is an old generation card. The 5670 has directx 11 support, stream technology and ATI Eyefinity. Personally i would get a bit more cash together and go for the 5750.
eteknix 1 year ago
well im buying this one tomorrow and i have to say tht im realy impressed and i think that it is somthing more than just a graphics card for light gamers since i have managed to play crysis 2 on an old pc with intel pentium 4 2.4ghz.... and a his radeon hd 2600 lol....
Anastassssssssssssss 1 year ago
Do you think crossfiring 2 of theese would be kickass?
Sk8ate95 1 year ago
To be honest, if you are looking at buying 2 of these, you might as well buy a 5750 or 5770.
eteknix 1 year ago
Nice Review
Also HD4670 does support Crossfire, the Sapphire versions. Looking into getting this to replace my 7600GS.
Question though, most manufactures say 400W Recommended. Since its low power would this run on a Macron 350W PSU (20A on 12V+ Rails)
ivr56 2 years ago
It only uses 51w of power at load, so it depends on the other spec of your computer, but if you haven't got a massively intensive computer, i guess it would be fine.
eteknix 2 years ago
@eteknix
AMD Athlon II X2 245,GIGABYTE MA790X-UD4, Single 2GB DDR2-800 stick, Combo DVD Drive, WD Caviler Green 7200rpm (SATA) and Seagate 7200rpm (IDE).
ivr56 2 years ago
Gah keep on getting them mixed up, meant HD5670 not HD4670 in my question.
ivr56 2 years ago
@ivr56 I think you should be ok with a 5670, but obviously if it starts freezing etc... then upgrade. Personally i would look at a 550w upwards anyway.
eteknix 2 years ago
@eteknix yeah
Looking into more reviews, I was looking at a GT240 also (Zotac Recommends 300W). But in reviews (Toms Hardware) the HD5670 uses less or around the same power then a GT240.
ivr56 2 years ago
Heya mate, i'm a brit too :D
anyway, what FPS would I get in WoW with this, I want a good 30+ with max, and what Power wattage would you recommend me getting, if you could post a link to a PSU then I would be greatly appreciative, cheers and thanks for the video, free sub and 5 stars ^^
WarcraftAzraman 2 years ago
Its hard to tell as i don't have WoW to test it with, and can't post links but google around and i'm sure you'll find it :) PSU wise, i always recommend Corsair, BFG, XFX, OCZ as the main ones, and don't skimp on a PSU. If you have the money then get a 550watt upwards to future proof your system. Hope that helps. You can get more complex answers on - forums(dot)eteknix(dot)com
eteknix 2 years ago
Thanks, it supports software crossfire, but to be honest, this is all down to the drivers, which isnt fantastic for it. Sapphire version does look good :)
It all depends on the rest of your system and how much power that needs as this card uses around 51w at LOAD so should be fine depending on the rest of your system.

how much fps can i expect to get in crysis?
Haloroach 2 years ago
@Haloroach What resolution?
In Crysis Warhead we recieved:
1280x1024 - 29fps
1680x1050 - 15fps
1920x1200 - 9fps
eteknix 2 years ago
1024x768

Why can't I find a video that shows you the card in action??? I only see vids like this one that show u the card itself but never see anyone using it. Does that seem odd to anyone???
Smeddog1 2 years ago
What do you mean? You want to see it in the motherboard with the fan spinning or you want to see the quality of the graphics on the screen? I'm waiting for my HD camcorder to come and then i may will do this a bit in the reviews but i can't imagine you'd be able to see the differences.
eteknix 2 years ago
card is new
T64181700 2 years ago
I did mean to mention it can do software crossfire, and not traditional but this all depends on your motherboard and ati drivers which are still very buggy when it comes to it.
eteknix 2 years ago
To those who think this card is weak, I used to have a Radeon 4670 up until about a couple months ago when I got a Radeon 5850. Except for a couple games like GTA4, Crysis, some others, that Radeon 4670 performed great. Considering this card improves upon that same basic level of performance (400 Stream Processors as opposed to the 320 of the Radeon 46xx, 38xx, 29xx cards) it's a great card with great improvements in the GPGPU and DX11 arena. Good card, fantastically low power consumption too
mobius1aic 2 years ago
I completely agree, my brother has the 4670 and he could play any game in directx 9 at full detail full AA and AF at 1360x768 and would have at least 60fps. (he doesn't play crysis)
joeb0 2 years ago
You can crossfire it mate, it'd just be a software crossfire.
