  • torrents?

  • Re: that bit around 2:20 ,

All of those software products are equally capable. There is no "One level down." Pro Tools is considered industry standard because its audio engine is superior for mix engineering and mastering engineering. Logic is also considered industry standard because of its stock plugins and the layout is more pretty. Regardless, all of the D.A.W. software mentioned in this video are equal and have no variation in capability. The producer makes the music, not the software.

  • A really good one to check out is called Kristal. Free and very simple. Very musician friendly.

  • YAY

  • 0:39 i think your hairs burning or something... wait no thats just a dodgy green screen! xD

  • I have Cubase 5 but it's shit because i don't really know how to use it and have next to no plug ins D: and to think i do AS level Music Tech...

  • FL Studio and Ableton Live FTW!

  • Thank F*** for that.

  • Hi dave. I was wondering if you have the time to critique this Online DAW called "Audiotool" if it's capable of making anything professional. If not, its all cool. :)

  • Cubase 5 ftw ^^

  • Thanks a lot for this tutorial..

I really enjoy your tutorials..they are instructive and really fun.:)

  • I use FM-8 and Massive for dubstep.

  • Hey, my band does similar music to that of yours, part electronic, part hard rock, and I was wondering, what software you use for yawa?

  • i loved autotune :)

  • Don't torrent or otherwise illegally download DAWs, it drives up the prices for everyone who actually appreciates all the hard work put into the continuing development of the software. No one that matters is going to take you seriously. Instead, if your short on cash, take advantage of demos and free DAWs until you can save up the $60 for reaper. Work on your skills until they're good enough to justify a more expensive DAW. Alternatively, get a piece of equipment with a bundled LE version.

  • fl studio is the best for its price and capabilities

  • logic is for musicians .. pro tools is for technicians... and cubase combines it all!

  • Reaper is definitely the bee's knees by the way. If it means anything to reading this comment, I use it for everything! Logic Pro looks pretty nice too!

  • ooooorrrrrrr you can *caugh caugh TORRENT caugh*

  • Cubase is the best!

  • ableton is beast as fuck

  • Pro Tools doesnt cost G's. You just need a solid computer thats stable n powerful enough to handle it. but other than that good video..

  • I am suprised you did not mention dp (now for PC announced at NAMM)

  • Another fully functional and pretty good DAW is Ardour, it's cross platform, free and open source. I used it for a little but I'm more into electronic music production and stick with Reason.

  • FL STUDIO 10 is the best

  • that was what after distortion?

  • @aloudi666 u deaf? autotune

  • GAIS! I has Cheap but good DAW for you! Its called Renoise! Its VST heaven, since its a home developed project, and it was build with VST's in mind.. But the stock stuff is good to. It looks like a tracker, BTW.

  • ...I use sony vegas movie studio :/

  • My god, you just saved me a shit load of cash by mentioning reaper. downloading that shitz now, thanks man!

  • Wait, how do u get 180 pounds from 40 pounds? sorry I'm from US :)

  • i love fl studio but i got a mac -_-

  • @KelleyBates it works on mac

  • @cheapspace yeah, only through bootcamp or parallels or something

  • FL FTW !

  • I love the epic meal time bird sound lol

  • @DJDoomsaloto OMG check 4:42 !!! Kieran has arms!!!!

  • Ableton's amazingness isn't limited to live, it works great for production as well. I've worked with Fruity loops, Reason, Protools, & Logic, but Ableton is my favorite :)

  • Where's day four! :O

  • Rapid

  • @andony5589 I frickin' love Backronyms.

  • @andony5589 YEAAAAAAAAAAA. I heart REAPER :)

  • reaper rules ;)

  • Reaper rules!

  • Dave what would you recommend for a mixer, I don't like using the virtual faders and in my audio production class we have digiboards and they are way too pricey lol

  • Everything krishernandezZ said times two

  • day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4 day 4

  • I myself use Cubase 5 for 2 years now & I'm very happy with it. I do want to try another DAW in the near future tough. Pro Tools looks really tempting. Many people recommend Logic Pro, but does Logic supports VST Instruments/Plug-Ins?

  • CUBASE AND REASON

  • Hey, you didnt talk about the DAW plugins. Do you will talk about them? Still a awesome work with this as always!

  • Sonar x1 and rewire Reason 6.0

Composition and basic mixing in Reason and then bounce all channels to Sonar x1 Studio for mixing and mastering...also good midi support for the synth freaks

Logic is very good, but you first have to be a douche to but a 2000 dollar facebook machine

  • Entertaining and informative as ever - keep 'em coming!

  • FEWER syllables please!

  • oh my god look at his neck lol

  • Would you say Reason is better for Mastering than Ableton?

  • @hugostiglitz7 Ableton can run 3rd party full pro quality mastering vsts whereas Reason can't. Mastering is better in something designed for sound editing more then creation but if you don't want something like Wavelab or even Pro Tools and Cubase would probably be better then Ableton would be better then Reason with 3rd party plugs

  • Comment removed

  • Is there a lite version of Reason that we can try?

  • @Master4swords you can try the complete version of Reason free...you just can't open projects that you save

  • i like the balance kieran brings, you should do some more vids with him

  • pro tools and reason <3 :)

  • Kieran is the coolest individual ive ever seen in my life....

  • @iamRhythmalism stock plug ins work fine, but other plug ins sound different for sure.. but essentially u can achieve the same goal in most DAWs.

  • @guitarskills2 so fucken true! tell em like it is man..

  • @wolfmannoon whats the reason why you dont like pro tools?

  • All of Dave's projects take 7 days and are split into 1 day segments complete with tutorial :)

  • you should start making some ableton tutorials. itd really widen your fan base

  • All videos you post are nothing less than beneficial, thanks once again waiting for next segment..

  • Hi Dave thanks I had pro tools but not happy with I think I'm going to try logic this time. My question is can I import reason 6 into logic though rewire?

  • @wolfmannoon Yes you can :)

  • As Dave mentioned before to list what we work with for some ideas. I rap, so in terms of an inexpensive vocal home studio I run this:

Adobe Audition as software (Formally Cool Edit Pro)

Behringer Ub502 Mixer (34$ when I purchased it a few years ago)

Studio Projects B1 Condenser (110$ when I bought it)

Random Phantom Power (Like 20$ depending where you purchase0

It seems to do me a fair kindness, the next upgrade I do will probably be an M Audio fast track audio interface so I can run protools

  • you are so owsome usually nobody shares theyr secrets of making music and how to set up thank u very much for your work

  • Adobe Audition isn't actually that bad for beginners, the newer ones are more complex but I started with version 1.5 when I was 13 and it did me fine

  • ~thepiratebay~

  • I use Fruity Loop Studio 10 Producer Edition.

  • Damn guys! you are taking a lot of fun of it! xD this is pretty funny

  • thepiratebay

  • Reaper, oh my god I love you.

    Ekol.

  • FastTracker. All I need...

  • Ableton all the way! Mostly because it's the only one I use, and absolutely love it and know it inside out

  • REASON FTW

  • REAPER iz da best!

  • FL .... Its fruity loops people.

  • also, big props for mentioning Reaper there, it's where I record and produce everything, metal (my band "Asyringe") and dubstep solo project ("Xenosapien"), both on SoundCloud if anyone cares. bought a full license for Reaper for I think 45 euros after using it for free for a while. just so worth it!

  • you should edit the description and include a link to bedroomproducersblog (dot com, i think), it has tons of links/articles (and reviews!) to and of free VSTs and samples.

  • Guys, no DAW is the best. It all depends on how your creative mind works. I use FL because the piano roll is so strong. Others use Cubase or Ableton for the strong UI when it comes to audio clips. Others even use trackers because of the speed composing can be done with those. Don't knock one DAW just because it doesn't work for you!

  • Also Garageband is just... not good.

  • FL Studio FTW!

  • Im rocking Reason 6 rewired into FL Studio 10. It's nice.

  • FL Studio for the people!

  • logic hands down....or fl

  • Logic is the best!

  • I'm convinced Kieran has no arms

  • @DJDoomsaloto He ate a sandwich and a cookie, that takes arms...

  • cockers?! HA!

  • ive used every daw extensively but i keep going back to fl studio and acid pro

  • Logic Pro 9 = $199 USD, insanely inexpensive for what you get.

  • Open ModPlug Tracker XD

  • 2:13 PEADOOO :O

  • REAPER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • FL Studio 4 life!

  • @CHOPPERSUlT How long you been FL studio???

  • LMFAO these are soooo funny. damn.....

  • Comment removed

  • the song's from you liquid dnb tut ! :D

  • @iamRhythmalism dam u a baller, but i wouldnt doubt u got cracked versions..haha

  • Reason FTW!!! :D

  • soo what make FL studio and Reason gear more to electronic music?

  • @FeelGoodEnt11 They are more like sequencers

  • you don't need to talk to us like we have a syndrome.. talking that clearly just makes the video seem stupid

  • @demonaca123 STFU dude! This is a very useful video for people that is starting in music prod.

  • Hey, blow your nose(s).

  • I *own* Pro Tools 8, FL 9 & 10, Cubase 4 AI, Reason 5 & Logic 9 recently. Logic is my shit hands down but it comes down to preference. They all do the same thing. I bought all of them one by one cuz I didnt know much about them and was looking for the "best daw" LOL. Just use whatever, and learn your DAW in + out. And to all non-believers...yes you can achieve nice CLEAR mixes with FL stock plugins. If you dont know how to use those, dont even bother picking up Waves or anything else really.PEAS

  • I sure do!

  • Comment removed

  • You forgot Studio One

  • what about "reason + record"

  • @ibcrazysumtimes Record as a brand is dead. Reason 6 incorporates all of Record's features. So if you're buying Reason today, there's no need to mention Record.

  • @ibcrazysumtimes "reason + record" has been replaced by Reason 6. It combines Record's live instrument recording capabilities with Reason's synth power. It's AWESOME. cheers.

  • There's holes in your hair Dave!

  • I Torrented Logic Pro 4 years ago and still have it... I will buy it once i like it :) no joke though i am gana buy i once i have the money, i love Logic i like that theres no restrictions like on PT u have to have a dongle with a license in it to even make the software work WTF!!

  • @romodrummerjz Dongles are very normal for alot of pro recording software and plugins so hating dongles isn't gonna get you far. Most stuff can work on iLok though which is a single dongle and very useful.

  • @JimijaymesGuitarist a dongle and iLok r basically the same, what i meant was i dont want to b restricted to plugging in a usb thumb drive to make my software and plugins work. i have worked with pro tools before i like the workflow but for now im sticking to Logic cuz thats what im used to and thats what i started with ever since i became a mac

  • REAPER is a good parallel to Pro Tools. Ish.

  • hahahahahaha sometimes I like to sleep in

  • 80% of people probably just pirate there DAWs as did I lol.

  • Missed out on suggesting Presonus Studio One.

  • Just get logic. Sorted.

  • @TheBassHeavy Even though Reason is better

  • @xRedHitmanx Hope you are just trolling and don't believe that.

  • I get much more satisfaction knowing everything I use, I have paid for, or is legal. NO TORRENTS. The programmers deserve something back.

  • @C4pitalise True. Especially true for developers like the Reaper guys, which give away their software for a VERY fair price (esp. compared to other DAWs like ableton). Same goes for the propellerheads which gave away their update to reason 6 for however much you wanted to pay :)

  • @ownageDan Exactly! And like Native Instrument's Razor. Around £70 for an incredible, innovative, top-quality instrument. Yet people still torrent,

  • I'm a Reason whore but once I make money off of my music I'll buy Logic. I want to make a profit at least. LOL

  • USE TORRENTS for software

  • Fun fact, if you're on linux, you're not shit out of luck, because FL studio will run amazing through wine. Just thought you would wanna know.

  • I sure do.

  • i personally love logic, we had to use reason at college and i thought it sound really plastic when i used it, but that was when i was in first year, im trying out ableton at the moment.

  • Awesome!!! Tottaly rockin stuff man

  • 0:37 your rainbow dash hair disappeared with your green screen

  • Yeah i prefer reason cause I know how it works and it has pretty nice VST's. Even though you can't download any other plugins... They will always add some new stuff iff you keep your program updated.

  • RENOISE anyone ?

  • Is it me or did the soundcard suddenly become £20 cheaper? Also really enjoying this series, helping me a lot!

  • Reason FTW!!

  • im using ableton atm, it took me 3 hours to figure out what the hell was doing, since ive never touched a daw in my life, since then..... *fapfapfapfapfapfapfap*

  • Reaper is the best :)

  • i started in fl then littlebit ableton (it was really not my thing) now i'm using logic but it is awsome for vst and audio but it is more complex then fl.

  • Should also recommend studio one. Very2 easy to use, drag and drop feature, fully capable mixing tools with melodyne integration. If you want to go with different DAW there's energy xt, mulab, and renoise. The last 2 i mention are a bit unique in term of workflow.

  • fl studio forever

  • reason totally

  • somthiung

  • i have another answer...TORRENTS!!!!

  • @evilbadassgrandma You really are an evil grandma! America should attempt to pass a widely overgeneralising law attempting to fight people like you.

  • @wwwboyinabandcom i think hes right, your best off using torrents than spending a few hundred quid on a program you dont have a clue how to use!

  • @KyleMarnoProducer No, you are wrong. A lot of this DAW have 30 days full demo. 30 days is more than enough to decide which one you like. Torrent to try a DAW is not an excuse when there's demo everywhere.

  • @Camido2003 iv been using a DAW for about 14 months and i still have loads to learn, torrenting albums is the only thing i think is wrong, a DAW and a few decent plugins and soft synths could cost you way over £1,000 easy

  • @KyleMarnoProducer Haha. With reason you can get everything you ever need without paying too much. You're just looking for excuse for piracy. And what's the logic behind buying DAW that you think you fully understand then you buy it? That's the beauty, buy a DAW and learn it step by step. Demos are there to give you a glimpse of what it can do.

  • @wwwboyinabandcom booooo

  • @wwwboyinabandcom

I thumbed up your comment even if I actually like illegal download :D

  • @wwwboyinabandcom I think torrenting is ok if companies can't price a product at a reasonable price. People will always pay for something if it is fairly price and convenient. Plus, my philosophy is, if i torrent something and i actually like it, then I'll buy the real product because its more convenient. If it's shit, i don't even use it. Steam and valve are a perfect success story (in gaming)

  • @wwwboyinabandcom would virtual home Dj be good enough for just starting?

  • @evilbadassgrandma Piracy are for loser. He mention reaper which is really cheap.

  • @evilbadassgrandma That's what's up! I got a great Propellarhead Recycle torrent. Works perfectly!

  • @evilbadassgrandma fuck internet piracy. yall going to hell for that aahhahaha ....just kiddin, but seriously, please stop dl-ing shit for free :S

  • @evilbadassgrandma Most people who use torrents just download stuff and dont even use it, and could of downloaded a demo. Torrents will soon mean that no one makes software cus there will be no money in it. If you use pirated software everyday or whenever you make music..........go out and buy it and keep computer music going. Plus there is lots of GREAT FREE vst/vsti but people dont want it because its FREE, they would rather steal.

  • @Funkmastabuzz IT IS VERY STUPID THINK THAT ONLY MONEY MOTIVATES SOFTWARE CREATORS!

  • @pyroghost11 I was just making a point. Of course software developers will still make software but its BOUND to have a impact on the quality of it. Company's like NI, Waves, izotope, etc will start to fade away as has already happened with some. Plus its not fair. Lots of software is over priced and underperformed BUT when you do find a bit you like and use a lot.....buy it....thats all im saying.

  • @pyroghost11 Its even more stupid to think that they will keep doing it and getting robbed.
