What dock program is that, and what theme for the dock did you use? I'm looking to install a dock similar to that but cairo-dock seems to crash on Ubuntu Karmic alpha6.
Gnome-Do, under preferences change the appearance to docky. Enjoy. And on the comment below I meant to say "applications will load up at the same speed with only 2gigs".
the system had 4gigs when I filmed it but specifically those applications will load up at the same speed with only 4gigs. The hard drive really is doing all the hard work to start up the applications. cheap ram is already way faster then any hard drive, its just temporary memory. The hard drive cost more then all the other parts combined on that system. But ssd are getting alot cheaper. I would recommend the intel 25-m ssd hard drives to anyone.
Applications:Add/Remove:Start up Manager. Open the application (located in system:administration) and Uncheck the "show boot splash" option and your done :D
You can also do this from the terminal by editing the menu.lst file "sudo nano /boot/grub/menu.lst", look for a long line that says kernel /boot/vmlinux-2....... remove "splash" from the line. and save the file.
one of the many awesome features of ubuntu 9.04 is the quickboot. I have an SSD too (hell expensive at the moment) but damn, ubuntu boots in like 5 seconds from "Starting up.." and that includes all the shit being loaded in the desktop :D
Everything works as a computer should work nowadays. By far the greatest bottleneck in any system is the hard drive. Thank god for SSD's :)
I love ubuntu 9.04.. cant wait till thursday.. da olnt thing i have problems is compiz wen doing the switcher thing of apps.. it restarts to login but not a very big deal
For anyone else interested in compiz (aka: special effects) just right click on the desktop: change desktop background: visual effects: and choose extra. The two switcher apps keyboard shortcuts are (Super{aka windows key}+Tab) and (shift+alt+up)
easiest way to get verbose mode for anyone else interested,.. is to go to the add/remove menu and get startup manager :D its lets you configure a few settings very easy without a terminal.
love jaunty :)

That's amazing... I can't wait till SSDs get cheaper than hard disks, sooner or later it'll happen (unless Seagate really starts patent trolling).

lol. I looked at the vid length but the actual start time is amazing and how fast all the applications load.

Did you recompile the kernel, or otherwise optimize the boot process to achieve this speed?
