@georgehenryhsu George, this is your page, and I am sorry to offend. I have my perspectives and Taiwanese people have theirs. We can't change each other so leave it as that. But if Taiwan was doing so well with its last two presidents and economically sound, why ELECT a minority party Kuomintang president in Ma? Kuomintang voters and numbers barely scratch the Taiwanese voting block at 18.9%. And they overtook the presidency? You tell me why would Taiwan do that, if it was doing great.
@arodspecialist You said it, if we can't change each other, leave it at that. China is hostile with its expansionist policies. If the CCP is so adamant that Taiwan 'should always have been Chinese', they should have rid of the KMT when they had the chance in 1949. The Taiwan issue is only a concept that has emerged recently because in the 1980s, the island was outperforming China. Nowadays with wealth & status, China are audacious in threatening Taiwan because they know they can get away with it
@georgehenryhsu Expanison is probably overstated because in the present global situation, China can not get away with it. Zheng He during the Ming had many chances to exert Chinese force and possibily acquire South China Sea nations of today, but did not because that is not China. As for Mao, he was hesitant due to US intervention during the KMT retreat. BTW, people in my generation never agreed with his ruling doctrines. I think China only exert pressure when Independence is mentioned. THX
@georgehenryhsu Not trying to spin it. I am living in it. If you travelled to lands I have traveled and be in the environment which I am in (working in California and Shanghai) then you can feel the aura. China threatens to exert intimidation as they always do. Invade? No need. By 2020, their naval forces is enough to blockade Taiwan. That is how they feel. As fo the US? Here is the vibe I hear when I speak to Americans. "我們不想碰這個熱水." Not with Russia and BRICS invovled.
@arodspecialist Why do you think China is still an outcast on the political stage? No-one likes them because of their intimidation tactics. They are needed so the west sucks up to the CCP but no-one likes China. It's a shame that such a magnificent country has been so badly represented and consequently as you've been brought up in censored China, you would likely never understand. CCP China has never ruled Taiwan, for that reason alone - they have no legitimate right to claim the island.
@georgehenryhsu Outcast? Please. All US and its allies have troubled economies as we speak. And since US and Britain have alwyas taken the lead, whatever they dislike, their allies do the same. China was never liked during the Mao days for his rule and they are not liked now for their economic prowess. It was the same with Russia. It is only natural. Again, it all depends who you are speaking to. All hot spots and dubbed "3rd world" countries left in destruction by Western Powers loves China.
@georgehenryhsu George, I am giving you the time because another person from Taiwan I met in Shanghai was really a cool person. I am merely following him on certain vid uploads. I really enjoy the conversation and will never bother you again as I have a very clear understanding of your perspective. As for mines, it is not relevant. As long as you believe in your ideals then this life is not wasted. After all, people can die, but if ideals are not killed, then that is worth everything right?
@arodspecialist I know many Chinese who were shocked at the realisation that the world acknowledges Taiwan to be an independent nation, although at political level Taiwan is said to be the same as China. It's this ignorance that Chinese people grow up with that is detrimental to the country. I love China, I just came back from Beijing a few days ago and I want to go again - but not for one second is Taiwan a part of China. This China era has never ruled Taiwan, thus no legitimacy in their claim.
@georgehenryhsu Very true. In the lifetime of yours and mines, there should be no problem. But with world resouces running low, competition getting more fierce, and change of leadership, you never know. History always repeat itself. Good luck and hope to discuss with you on other issues as well. I sometimes respond late because I work between Shanghai and US and there is no youtube there. Feel free to hit me up.
@georgehenryhsu I'm sorry but I have to butt in this conversation. China an outcast on the political stage? That's blatant bullshitting right there. China doesn't even need to threaten anything, for even if Taiwan declared independence, many countries wouldn't recognise them. It's just not good business. Why would you sever vital economical ties with a upcoming superpower to embroil yourself in a political situation that doesn't concern you in any way?
@nioor you are very naive. its not vital economic ties with an upcoming superpower. its soft politics from the CCP. wikileaks proved that the governments of the USA, Australia, NZ among others sent a confidential cable to ban ki moon of the UN rejecting the "province of china" name associated to taiwan. Taiwan is a sovereign state but may not be recognised officially because of China's influence. China is not regarded as a diplomatic state. the west knows they need to keep them sweet though
@georgehenryhsu Yeah keep telling yourself that. Won't change the fact that if China did go to war with Taiwan, USA or any other western nation would not lift a finger. It's political and economical suicide to intervene.
@nioor Not China go to war, if China chooses to invade Taiwan....
I think you would be surprised. This would be a case of China being hostile again and invading another country. It's not intervening in a domestic issue. Collectively, the west could crush China like the slimy cockroach it is. China thinks they are the world. Communists have ruined a magnificent country.
@georgehenryhsu It's ridiculously ironic how much you sound like the brainwashed commies you so dearly hate. If you really did receive a western education as your profile claims, I'd expect a more intelligent sounding person, not someone who foams at the mouth and spouts nationalistic, cheesy propaganda. The facts speak for themselves, the west only cares about intervening if it can receive a profitable return, such as in Libya or Iraq. It gains nothing by helping Taiwan.
@nioor I know for a fact that the west (like every other country) doesn't act for genuine reasons. I know the USA wouldn't help Taiwan to preserve democracy, the rule of law and liberalism. It would be to prevent Chinese expansionist foreign policy. I know this, however the fact is; the west's pledge acts in favour of preserving these principles. The gain would be to stop China from invading Taiwan, and then most likely the other countries around it.
@nioor sorry fot butting in but if Taiwan does get integrated into China, it would pose a threat to America. 1st America would loose all influence in Asia as protector. 2nd The sea between Asia and US would no longer be safe, meaning Chinese Navy can now sail through. The goal of US is to prevent another attack like pearl harbor ever wonder why all Asian allies have no Nuclear weapons and are militarily weak? 3rd China increase in boarder size and tech assets. All of these are a threat to US
@tedc06 Everything you said is true. And I would agree US would intervene, if this is the 1960s. But the power is shifting, and as the Cold War has already demonstrated, when two opposing forces have nuclear capabilities, neither wants to trigger what could be an escalation. If Taiwan were to declare independence tomorrow and China launches an attack, the most is a political slap on the wrist. US would not risk an all in for an island becoming less and less strategically important.
@nioor It would be wrong to write off China, the second richest country in the world, but even more hazardous to write off the world superpower. Don't be so naive in your thinking. You must think of repercussions not the action only. It's not that Taiwan would lose its sovereignty, its that if Taiwan became Chinese, where next? Okinawa? Hawaii?
China won't stop. Vietnam and Japan have recently made complaints about sovereignty infringements.
Well that's a dangerously slippery slope you're on. If you're going to extrapolate reunification to a full blown invasion of other countries, I can just as easily say that the Falklands War was the beginning of UK trying to conquer South America. You see how ridiculous that is? That sort of cynicism never works in global politics, you can't just pre-emptively go into a full blown war because of what MIGHT happen. Taiwan's independence would only cause a political fallout, not a nuclear one.
@georgehenryhsu Actually that depends on who you talk to, history is written by the victors so you probably only heard one side. My point is that you can't extrapolate a small conflict into something much larger. Your proposition that China is looking for Pacific domination after reunification is absurd, something only extreme sinophobics would believe, so unless US elects a madman in office it's not even close to being a reason to go to war.
@nioor Are you really trying to dispute the Falklands war?! Argentina attacked a British territory, Britain defended and successfully removed the invaders from the Falklands. USA has legislation to help Taiwan if China invade. It's an international matter so the world would be involved one way or another.
@georgehenryhsu You're missing the point. Sure the British were defenders and Argentines the attackers, it's irrelevant and I'm not disputing that. I'm saying who the island should belong to is a matter of opinion, just like the political status of Taiwan. If you're referring to the Taiwan Relations Act, it explicitly states US is NOT obligated to militarily intervene, only to provide defensive arms and use any peaceful means to resolve any tension. A political slap on the wrist in other words.
@nioor thats silly. you could quote me Nietzsche all day long if you'd like but that won't change anything. Everything is a matter of opinion therefore. Nothing is true, we give everything values and opinions. Taiwan is separate, so just keep it the liberal democracy it is. Most Taiwanese want independence or maintenance of separation.
Why be radical and remove the great quality of life in Taiwan, and give its citizens something they don't want?
@georgehenryhsu I never advocated reunification. Nor am I against it. It means nothing to me. What annoys me are Taiwanese still under the false impression that their political troubles are worth the United States going to war over, let alone against an emerging superpower and a invaluable trading partner. If Taiwan wants to declare independence, fine, just don't expect any other country to take the fall for it.
@nioor Yep, politics is just politics either side wins, status quo will still be there unless treachery shows itself. US interest is for foreign nations to quarrel amongst themselves so no one focuses on the US. If Taiwan does go independent it would be because USA wants it to happen. Then it would only mean China is out of control and an imminent threat. In this case, Taiwan and China will be bombed back into stone age. But at least Taiwan gets its independence lol.
"Taiwan" doesn't have any FOREIGN RELATIONS. Hence, it cannot be considered an independent country. (Note: All foreign relations are done under the nomenclature of "Republic of China," not of "Taiwan.")
@BiReal In fact, the "Republic of China" has hijacked Taiwan's chances of becoming an independent entity. The ROC is a government in exile on Taiwanese soil, and has never been recognized by the international community as "the legal government of Taiwan." This is the real reason why Taiwan cannot move forcefully in the direction of independence. The statement that Taiwan's problems are due to "Chinese military threats" is merely based on a popular illusion.

@arodspecialist China continues to threaten Taiwan with an invasion to this day. That's still hostile - irrespective of however you try and spin it.
georgehenryhsu 6 months ago
@georgehenryhsu Not trying to spin it. I am living in it. If you travelled to lands I have traveled and be in the environment which I am in (working in California and Shanghai) then you can feel the aura. China threatens to exert intimidation as they always do. Invade? No need. By 2020, their naval forces is enough to blockade Taiwan. That is how they feel. As fo the US? Here is the vibe I hear when I speak to Americans. "我們不想碰這個熱水." Not with Russia and BRICS invovled.
arodspecialist 6 months ago
@arodspecialist Why do you think China is still an outcast on the political stage? No-one likes them because of their intimidation tactics. They are needed so the west sucks up to the CCP but no-one likes China. It's a shame that such a magnificent country has been so badly represented and consequently as you've been brought up in censored China, you would likely never understand. CCP China has never ruled Taiwan, for that reason alone - they have no legitimate right to claim the island.
georgehenryhsu 6 months ago
@georgehenryhsu Outcast? Please. All US and its allies have troubled economies as we speak. And since US and Britain have alwyas taken the lead, whatever they dislike, their allies do the same. China was never liked during the Mao days for his rule and they are not liked now for their economic prowess. It was the same with Russia. It is only natural. Again, it all depends who you are speaking to. All hot spots and dubbed "3rd world" countries left in destruction by Western Powers loves China.
arodspecialist 6 months ago
@georgehenryhsu George, I am giving you the time because another person from Taiwan I met in Shanghai was really a cool person. I am merely following him on certain vid uploads. I really enjoy the conversation and will never bother you again as I have a very clear understanding of your perspective. As for mines, it is not relevant. As long as you believe in your ideals then this life is not wasted. After all, people can die, but if ideals are not killed, then that is worth everything right?
arodspecialist 6 months ago
@arodspecialist I know many Chinese who were shocked at the realisation that the world acknowledges Taiwan to be an independent nation, although at political level Taiwan is said to be the same as China. It's this ignorance that Chinese people grow up with that is detrimental to the country. I love China, I just came back from Beijing a few days ago and I want to go again - but not for one second is Taiwan a part of China. This China era has never ruled Taiwan, thus no legitimacy in their claim.
georgehenryhsu 6 months ago

Why would you sever vital economical ties with a upcoming superpower to embroil yourself in a political situation that doesn't concern you in any way?
nioor 5 months ago
@nioor you are very naive. its not vital economic ties with an upcoming superpower. its soft politics from the CCP. wikileaks proved that the governments of the USA, Australia, NZ among others sent a confidential cable to ban ki moon of the UN rejecting the "province of china" name associated to taiwan. Taiwan is a sovereign state but may not be recognised officially because of China's influence. China is not regarded as a diplomatic state. the west knows they need to keep them sweet though
georgehenryhsu 5 months ago
@georgehenryhsu Yeah keep telling yourself that. Won't change the fact that if China did go to war with Taiwan, USA or any other western nation would not lift a finger. It's political and economical suicide to intervene.
nioor 5 months ago
@nioor Not China go to war, if China chooses to invade Taiwan....
I think you would be surprised. This would be a case of China being hostile again and invading another country. It's not intervening in a domestic issue. Collectively, the west could crush China like the slimy cockroach it is. China thinks they are the world. Communists have ruined a magnificent country.
georgehenryhsu 5 months ago
@georgehenryhsu It's ridiculously ironic how much you sound like the brainwashed commies you so dearly hate. If you really did receive a western education as your profile claims, I'd expect a more intelligent sounding person, not someone who foams at the mouth and spouts nationalistic, cheesy propaganda. The facts speak for themselves, the west only cares about intervening if it can receive a profitable return, such as in Libya or Iraq. It gains nothing by helping Taiwan.
nioor 5 months ago
@nioor I know for a fact that the west (like every other country) doesn't act for genuine reasons. I know the USA wouldn't help Taiwan to preserve democracy, the rule of law and liberalism. It would be to prevent Chinese expansionist foreign policy. I know this, however the fact is; the west's pledge acts in favour of preserving these principles. The gain would be to stop China from invading Taiwan, and then most likely the other countries around it.
georgehenryhsu 5 months ago
@nioor sorry fot butting in but if Taiwan does get integrated into China, it would pose a threat to America. 1st America would loose all influence in Asia as protector. 2nd The sea between Asia and US would no longer be safe, meaning Chinese Navy can now sail through. The goal of US is to prevent another attack like pearl harbor ever wonder why all Asian allies have no Nuclear weapons and are militarily weak? 3rd China increase in boarder size and tech assets. All of these are a threat to US
tedc06 5 months ago
@tedc06 Everything you said is true. And I would agree US would intervene, if this is the 1960s. But the power is shifting, and as the Cold War has already demonstrated, when two opposing forces have nuclear capabilities, neither wants to trigger what could be an escalation. If Taiwan were to declare independence tomorrow and China launches an attack, the most is a political slap on the wrist. US would not risk an all in for an island becoming less and less strategically important.
nioor 5 months ago
@nioor It would be wrong to write off China, the second richest country in the world, but even more hazardous to write off the world superpower. Don't be so naive in your thinking. You must think of repercussions not the action only. It's not that Taiwan would lose its sovereignty, its that if Taiwan became Chinese, where next? Okinawa? Hawaii?
China won't stop. Vietnam and Japan have recently made complaints about sovereignty infringements.
georgehenryhsu 5 months ago
Well that's a dangerously slippery slope you're on. If you're going to extrapolate reunification to a full blown invasion of other countries, I can just as easily say that the Falklands War was the beginning of UK trying to conquer South America. You see how ridiculous that is? That sort of cynicism never works in global politics, you can't just pre-emptively go into a full blown war because of what MIGHT happen. Taiwan's independence would only cause a political fallout, not a nuclear one.
nioor 5 months ago
@nioor I don't understand your example since the Falklands was British. It was Argentina who invaded....
georgehenryhsu 5 months ago
@georgehenryhsu Actually that depends on who you talk to, history is written by the victors so you probably only heard one side. My point is that you can't extrapolate a small conflict into something much larger. Your proposition that China is looking for Pacific domination after reunification is absurd, something only extreme sinophobics would believe, so unless US elects a madman in office it's not even close to being a reason to go to war.
nioor 5 months ago
@nioor Are you really trying to dispute the Falklands war?! Argentina attacked a British territory, Britain defended and successfully removed the invaders from the Falklands. USA has legislation to help Taiwan if China invade. It's an international matter so the world would be involved one way or another.
georgehenryhsu 5 months ago
@georgehenryhsu You're missing the point. Sure the British were defenders and Argentines the attackers, it's irrelevant and I'm not disputing that. I'm saying who the island should belong to is a matter of opinion, just like the political status of Taiwan. If you're referring to the Taiwan Relations Act, it explicitly states US is NOT obligated to militarily intervene, only to provide defensive arms and use any peaceful means to resolve any tension. A political slap on the wrist in other words.
nioor 5 months ago
@nioor thats silly. you could quote me Nietzsche all day long if you'd like but that won't change anything. Everything is a matter of opinion therefore. Nothing is true, we give everything values and opinions. Taiwan is separate, so just keep it the liberal democracy it is. Most Taiwanese want independence or maintenance of separation.
Why be radical and remove the great quality of life in Taiwan, and give its citizens something they don't want?
georgehenryhsu 5 months ago
@georgehenryhsu I never advocated reunification. Nor am I against it. It means nothing to me. What annoys me are Taiwanese still under the false impression that their political troubles are worth the United States going to war over, let alone against an emerging superpower and a invaluable trading partner. If Taiwan wants to declare independence, fine, just don't expect any other country to take the fall for it.
nioor 5 months ago
@nioor well then don't suggest anything. Taiwan is separate, just keep it at that then.
georgehenryhsu 5 months ago
@nioor Yep, politics is just politics either side wins, status quo will still be there unless treachery shows itself. US interest is for foreign nations to quarrel amongst themselves so no one focuses on the US. If Taiwan does go independent it would be because USA wants it to happen. Then it would only mean China is out of control and an imminent threat. In this case, Taiwan and China will be bombed back into stone age. But at least Taiwan gets its independence lol.
tedc06 5 months ago
"Taiwan" doesn't have any FOREIGN RELATIONS. Hence, it cannot be considered an independent country. (Note: All foreign relations are done under the nomenclature of "Republic of China," not of "Taiwan.")
tprophet77 8 months ago
@tprophet77 I think we are all aware of the "word game" but unofficially the island is independent as Taiwan. Anybody who's been here understand that.
Sadly due to Chinese military threats the Taiwanese people are still officially not recognized as being just that, the Independent nation of Taiwan.
BiReal 7 months ago
@BiReal In fact, the "Republic of China" has hijacked Taiwan's chances of becoming an independent entity. The ROC is a government in exile on Taiwanese soil, and has never been recognized by the international community as "the legal government of Taiwan." This is the real reason why Taiwan cannot move forcefully in the direction of independence. The statement that Taiwan's problems are due to "Chinese military threats" is merely based on a popular illusion.
tprophet77 7 months ago
Long live Taiwan's independence. Now more then ever it is important to make sure of that!.
